  1. Hi, if you check out this thread from last year's auditions, you'll see my panic about shoes on page 5 LOL: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/4801-elmhurst-2014-entry-auditions/page-5 We went with the well fitting canvas split soles for all auditions in the end with the exception of RBS where we were advised against canvas split soles. The only thing that I remember being sure of was definitely no ribbons because the children may need to take their shoes off....
  2. at a push, could you get away with this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Colours-Sleeveless-Leotard-Katz-Dancewear/dp/B00KG9SCXC/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412368159&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=ISTD10+aqua+leotard It doesn't have the ruched front but you could maybe sew the ruching in?
  3. Sorry I can't help balletmum20 but it's a lovely colour Have you tried everybody's favourite - Ebay? or Amazon? Good luck on the hunt and the Junior Awards xx
  4. Hi - they were both about 1hr 30mins. At Elmhurst, parents had a talk in the small library / IT suite, then a tour of the site before joining the audition class to watch the last 5 mins of class, if I remember rightly. The RBS audition was held at BRBs studios so parents tended to pop out for a cup of tea and a walk, although you can just sit in the holding room. There's usually lovely PTA ladies who will have some goodies to look at We live between 50 mins and 1hr 10 mins from Birmingham depending on the traffic and we drove for both the B'ham auditions (and the Tring one) but we drove up to Chester the night before the Hammond one. I think I would see what time slot you get first and then decide - and of course a lot depends on how regularly to drive into B'ham and so are familiar with the little traffic pockets, etc.... All the audition experiences were slightly different in form but all great days - it's hard to believe that I was in your position this time last year! I'm sure the lovely forum members will remember my sheer panic over which ballet shoes DD should wear! So feel free to ask questions - I know how much I relied on everyone to help me x
  5. Hi Happymum, from memory last year, my DD was auditioning for yr 7 entry and the RBS was at 9.30 in Birmingham (there were later sessions as well though) but we had first slot of the day. Obviously different centres around the country are auditioning so timings could vary from location to location. Elmhurst was register at 10.30 for 11.00 start (the older children auditioned in the afternoon slot). Tring was all afternoon - we arrived at 1.00 and I think were finished at 6.00pm. Hammond was full day audition that started at 8.30 through till about 4.30pm Tring and Hammond offered parents a look round and a meeting / chat before parents left site and then picked their children up later. Hope this helps
  6. She's really settled in well and is loving her classes. Currently asleep in the back of the car as we sit in our 3rd traffic jam on the way home :-D
  7. I did bare feet for all last year - Tring weren't minded either way - and DD started there this month If you want peace of mind just drop them an email to check - but bare feet will be fine if you've got to have bare feel for all the others. Hope this helps
  8. Just thought I'd update you all on my little DD....after a shaky start (tears all round) things are settling down really well. DD is absolutely loving her classes and is sounding like she's settling in well. Discovering Facetime has been the biggest help - to be able to see and talk to her and for her to see us pottering around in the kitchen while we chat at night is fantastic. For us, we can see in her face that she is happier every time we talk and for her she can see that everything's just ticking along as normal at home. Plus there's the added bonus that it's free via the wi-fi so no huge telephone bills I would really recommend it to anyone who's got children suffering with homesickness at the moment. My week has also been made easier by the thoughtfulness of a couple of Mums who have taken the time to make contact with me and give me reassurance and support - one of them I know is a forum member and I really thank you for getting in touch Hopefully we will continue to evolve into our new routine and I pray that she continues to settle as well as she's started This forum has been such a support and invaluable source of information and I've also met some wonderful people through it over the last 18 months or so - so thank you everyone and long may it continue to be here for us all x
  9. Very sorry to hear that your DDs have had to withdraw - what a disappointment for you all - but you're right not to risk further injury. Hope they're both 100% fit again soon xx
  10. Thanks both - hopefully tonight when she messages me she'll be full of news after a busy first day x
  11. We did really well right up till we left at 6.00 and then we had a few tears She's been crying tonight after dinner as well so it's been tough while she was able to text us - but we know it's just the separation thing - the staff and pupils have all been amazing today at making us feel at ease and answering questions, etc...so we know she's going to love it but my heart aches a little right now...
  12. Well, the day has arrived. I'm feeling excited for DD but also anxious and a little sad that I'm not going to have my "shadow" with me every day. DD is very excited and can't wait to put her uniform on today! Good luck to all the DC's starting today - we're looking forward to getting to know you all :-D
  13. Beautiful performance tonight from Bitter Harvest - DD has been taught by them at MTB so was thrilled to see them performing. Equally amazing was Kaine's performance last night - and DD was just as thrilled to see him on GTD as she was at NYB with him the last couple of weeks and will be at the same school as him from September! How exciting to see people that she actually knows out there living it!
  14. Fantastic news....would love to hear that she's doing those cartwheels again soon :)
  15. I think it's lovely that your DDs are enjoying it so much that they've asked to board for the rest of it x
  16. Hi Lema, I think they may have just mis-labelled the Birmingham second date - it should probably be Jnr not Snr with MA instead of SA as the SAs are the day before and WL would normally be WL / MA. Worth checking with them but I bet it's the 21st for WL / MA
  17. Ahhh...Danceroo - she may have even won and you don't know yet! What did she dance to? A young girl in black leotard and black skirt won the junior section! My DD said there were a couple of new boarders so there were a couple of room changes They all looked really happy last night with the exception of a couple of tearful girls - tears brought on by seeing their parents I think - from what DD has messaged us about, it sounds as though they are all having a great time. We haven't spoken to DD on the phone at all yet - we just get messages between 7.00 and 8.00pm each night, so that tells us she's not homesick at all and loving it!
  18. That sounds amazing - thanks for sharing it with us.
  19. She's in Dolls House Fantasia and Waking Mozart - how about your DD? Can't wait to watch, I've got tickets for Thursday, Saturday and the Gala
  20. Hi Dancing 2003, Your DD was lovely - well done to her Mine was the first dancer on last night!
  21. Did anyone else attend the Choreographic Competition last night? Although we thoroughly enjoyed it, I was a little surprised to see that there was a far greater number of juniors entered and only half the number in the inter section and even less in the senior group (literally only 6 entries in seniors). Is this the norm? I was expecting to see far more seniors wanting to show their own work. My DD entered in the Junior section and I had been a little worried that she would be "outclassed" but she danced beautifully and even though she didn't win, she held her own with some lovely Junior dancers
  22. Great to know that the operation went well and now wising a speedy recovery for your DD. All the very best xxx
  23. Hi SBS, Ultimately this year we were glad that we did them early - it was great finishing for Christmas knowing that DD had already had 2 offers and to be able to secure a place in advance of going back for funding audition. The flip side is that it seemed an awfully long time between the offers and the funding rounds...but equally as Afab says, by the later couple of audition dates (at least at Tring) there were only beds left for the funded places. Also, even getting an early "no" from Elmhurst in November was actually great in hindsight because it was one less to worry about so I'd definitely advise trying for the pre-Christmas dates rather than the post- Christmas dates. I agree with 2Dancersmum as well - I'm sure your DD's normal school would rather she do them before Spring term so less interruption leading up to assessments and exams at school.
  24. Yes - so pleased that piece of the jigsaw has slotted in - now our prayers are with you for your DD's op! Thinking of you x
  25. Regattah, I can't help with your accommodation dilemma but I do sincerely hope your daughter's surgery is successful and that someone on this forum can help with accommodation for your DD. Wishing your family well for next week x
