Tring lower school dance audition date through!!!!
DancingDays replied to Busymum's topic in Doing Dance
Huge Congratulations Daisy's Mum and Bettyballerina - I hope your DD and Grandson will be as happy at Tring as my DD is! It's a huge step allowing them to live away from home and we were very worried about it but apart from a little homesickness at the very beginning our DD is thriving! In fact she just sent me some photos of the treats that she and her dorm friends have following their Easter Egg Hunt this morning A lot of fun, a lot of hard work and a lot of feeling at home there!! Also, please don't be put off by any of the comments on the thread - there is a complete mix of family backgrounds in the dorms but you'd think they'd all known each other for years already!! Have fun with naming clothes this Summer ;) x- 385 replies

Thank goodness for your redressing the balance Atacrossroads and Harwel. Thank you both for your comments which I agree with 100% and couldn't have written better myself. Assumptions of wealth over talent and being made to feel guilty because you sacrifice and struggle in order to pay the fees is not cool!- 385 replies

Congratulations Belljul - fantastic news

Wow alieen...was this comment really necessary? Perhaps that's the reason why those "preconceived" notions of a pecking order exist!!!! So, is it OK to suggest that children may "choose" to leave RBS because they want a change of environment but heaven forbid the same might apply at other schools!!!!!! There is no escaping the fact that having RBS upper school on your CV will be fantastic and as has been said before by other posters, none of us would want our DC to give up the opportunity of having that...but is it really necessary to speak derogatorily of Tring in the process? As a Tring parent I take more offence at your comment above than any of the other comments seen in several different threads past and present over the last few days about schools / merits of / pecking orders. Why can't people just accept that not all schools will suit all people and that personalities will always hold a part in why a child either flourishes or struggles - alongside all the other elements that we all rationally know exist....talent, artistry, technique, performance ability, facility....the rest of the class cohorts' abilities, etc, etc. You simply cannot take away the fact that these Tring students have successfully auditioned for the RBS having trained at Tring Park and I think this is testament to the teaching / training / support they have been given (plus their own dedication, hard work and supportive families behind them). That's it - I'm off my soapbox now. I have refrained from joining in many of the "difficult threads" where opinions have made me think "What?!" but in this instance I felt I needed to.

Lower School Tring/Hammond & decision stress!
DancingDays replied to Willow04's topic in Doing Dance
I just thought I would shed a little light on the current yr 7 vocational timetable for Tring. My DD is on the Dance Course and she has: ballet every day - either 1.5 hour or 2 hrs per day modern twice a week tap once a week drama once a week choir once a week conditioning/pilates once a week In contrast the TAs have: ballet twice a week modern twice a week tap once a week Plus Solo singing classes, Choir & Drama but I'm not sure how many classes of these they get. From what I have learned from my DD, the tap class is combined Dance and TAs. All the vocational classes are held in the mornings and then the two groups come together every afternoon for their academic lessons. Hope this helps - I think Tring focus more on keeping options open as wide as possible until after year 9 when they start specialising more. DD is very happy there -

I've sent you a PM Sugarplumsmum x Lema, the DADA funding for 16+ offers far less support than the MDS funding for 11+ years. MDS covers the boarding element too whereas the DADA doesn't and also the income bands are much lower for the DADA so don't be too scared...although still a huge financial commitment for anyone embarking on the vocational journey x

Good luck to your DDs Pups_mum and Lilac
