  1. If you scroll down to step 4 on the page below, it describes the qualification criteria http://www.all-england-dance.org.uk/competition/how-to-enter
  2. Hi - last Regionals and Finals in 2013, they tightened up the qualification for finals to just 1st and 2nd placed dancers if they achieved an Honours mark. 3rd place with Honours didn't go through. However, they've amended that this time to 1st, 2nd & 3rd go through as long as the Honours mark is gained...so your friend's daughter has qualified. (She would have had a Finals application form paper clipped to her certificate to complete and hand in at Regionals because the last day of regional finals is the deadline for entry to Finals so I hope she did). Hope this helps.
  3. Oh SP....what brilliant news! I know what you mean hfbrew....I think we all feel so much a part of SP's journey! I'll be raising a glass for you later! You must be over the moon....your hard work, dedication and continued enthusiasm has paid off for you. Ballet West is a great place Well done!!!
  4. I know....I didn't do it immediately and then it went out of my head until the update was posted about a week or so ago so then I did it immediately before I forgot again! Well worth the few pounds for such a valuable website
  5. Congratulations to your DD Piccolo! Great news.
  6. That's such a shame southerndancemum.....I always tell my DD that if she behaved in a "spoilt" or "ungracious" way at a Festival, it would be the last one I'd enter her in....there is no excuse for bad manners and nasty attitudes..... This is my DD's last hurray with All England. She's at vocational school now but qualified her solos before she started there so we got permission from school to see this AE Competition through...so I'm really pleased for her that she's through to the final again as no opportunity for regular rehearsal being away at school...but personally, I won't miss the "Mummy Stress" of it all !
  7. Sandsfoot, those young dancers were amazing weren't they...and they were so excited when I congratulated them afterwards in the dressing room! So well rehearsed and performed - it would be interesting to follow their journeys. You're right about the standard in C Section...extremely strong group of dancers x
  8. Wow! Another example of some very small minded parents!! Smacks to me of a little bit of jealousy there Festival success does not equal vocational school potential.....and as an example my DD (who has had great Festival success over the last few years) didn't place in her Modern solo the whole qualifying season - even though that dance is the one she had choreographed for her auditions at Tring and Hammond and she got offered places at both.....so one doesn't necessarily mean the other. I would take no notice of them - your daughter clearly has the right potential to get offers at vocational schools otherwise they wouldn't all have made the offers to her.....and festivals are very subjective - fun most of the time but subjective nonetheless xxx
  9. Waitingmum, I guess this could happen if they had ties for 1st, 2nd or 3rd? It's rare but I did see 3 people get awarded a 3rd place at the 2013 regionals...? x Balletqueen, no, her ballet was great but it didn't get placed yesterday unfortunately - my DD's Irish National was the one that got through
  10. We were at the West Regional too and although we noticed a lack of manners from some (i.e. I would hold a door open or wait at the bottom of steps without so much as a thank you), we found most parents to be as friendly and polite as I like to think I am. DD didn't experience any of the backstage problems either so I think you must have just had a really unlucky experience and that's a real shame. I did have parents of other competitors in my DD's sections come up to me and compliment DD on her dancing, and I made a point of congratulating numerous different children and their parents for some really outstanding performances (different schools and children). My DD was in C Section so probably not the same age as yours Waitingmum but I saw a couple of cracking junior sections and baby sections with some real little superstars in the making! For me, I couldn't not congratulate these kids on their performances - they were a joy to watch I would also say that the organisers were really helpful We're off to finals again which is great considering the competition at West was fierce! Please don't think your experience was the norm and good luck for Finals and White Lodge xxx
  11. How exciting for you SP - please make sure you let us all know how you get on - lovely lovely news Edited to add: My DD would love to experience that!
  12. If you look at the National Comparison immediately below the summary table I think Tring's results speak for themselves 100% pass in English and 96.8% pass in Maths. With that cumulative table headed up "A*-C Grade" it makes it impossible for the overall 95.5% at A*-C Grade not to include English and Maths......and against the National Averages Tring's results make very impressive reading for anyone concerned with academic results, particularly when looking at the onward A Level choice available for their students.
  13. Trings results can be seen on the website : http://www.tringpark.com/curriculum/public-exam-resultsand show excellent results across the board
  14. Good luck for your DD at Janet Cram and continued best wishes for your younger DD in finding the cause and then the solution to get her back to full health as quickly as possible. Sending you strength and best wishes xxx
  15. Hi All4dancers, yes nearly all the pieces that will be performed are listed on the contract and your child will only be in those with a tick next to them or a "cover" next to them. There are a couple of other pieces that will be cast at Summer School (the covering letter gives details about that bit). Some pieces will be short 4 or 5 minute numbers and others will be mini ballets of around 15 to 20 mins. I would imagine that the Cinderella piece will be a longer mini ballet but some of the "new pieces" will be shorter (these are the young up and coming choreographers who are still in training themselves). This will be DD's 2nd season with them - last year she had a JA piece and a Main Cast piece and she loved it. This year she is just Main Cast as she is 12 now. The standard is very high - some of the older girls and boys are very talented indeed and it is superbly run by the NYB team, from costuming and hair and makeup to the chaperones, etc.
  16. Congratulations Audsjcanuck - it's what we all want for our DC - a job at the end of it Well done to your DD
