I applaud the 50 dancers who spoke to Mark Daly (reporter) that has shaped the programme. I am so impressed with the way those interviewed could articulate themselves. I hope that ballet schools show this as part of their curriculum as well in teacher training.

One of the schools has indeed agreed to let their students watch it i when it airs if they feel they want to with staff, counsellors etc on hand to answer any questions they may have and support them .

  2. This is a tricky one … but at our vocational school we were told no more than two weeks, rest MUST be included and then a conditioning programme set by the school. I happen to agree with this and don’t think it’s wise doing endless back to back intensives. The body needs rest to grow plus most growth spurts occur during these summer breaks so again puts unnecessary risk on the body .  Also you risk burn out from an already packed summer term going into multiple courses.
Yes these courses are enriching, you learn, you make new friends etc but can’t replace daily class/ conditioning .
it’s finding the balance. Please don’t feel under pressure to follow the crowd as each child’s body is individual. Some really great advice on here

  3. Quality over quantity . If your DD has a great teacher then that should be enough along side her JA class . Please don’t fall

into the trap or under pressure of filling her week with various ballet classes with multiple teachers. I know many children who were accepted into vocational ballet  school just attending JA’s and their once a week

    ballet class .

No such luck unfortunately. My pupil is also just 8. It's a bit cruel spreading the results out so much! Still nothing... She has the online JA lessons on Sundays to look forward to though so all is not lost!

Have you heard anything yet? I had two pupils audition and they’ve not had anything back yet 🤔

It doesn’t really make sense to me what you said. Plenty of other vocational and non vocational students apply for all weeks.

It was merely a suggestion as to why a certain week might be oversubscribed.. only a suggestion.
I rarely comment on here these days for fear of being lynched or offending anyone unintentionally…

Please don’t take what I said the wrong way or twist it into something it was not . I will not be lead into any more discussion regarding it.

So are you implying that if you’re WL it’s an automatic yes?

Not at all… I’m just saying there are quite a few more who applied this year than last year  so obviously with more applications it’s going to be harder to offer places .. I can only speak of that particular vocational school… I’m sure others have had many students apply too.

My boy is in Elmhurst year 7 and they don't have homework.  They said that the day is so full that they don't have time to do homework in the evenings.  As for the weekends, he stays unless its leave out and the range of activities they have is wonderful.  He is thoroughly enjoying every moment.

Having also had a daughter go through White Lodge, i feel that they have too much time on their hands and not enough supervision on a weekend especially as they get older.  They go to Sheen with the houseparents in year 7 and 8 on a Saturday afternoon but Sunday seemed to be 'entertain yourself'.  I can assure you that this was not a good idea

There are regular trips on Sundays at WL. And not left to own devices. Yesterday they did ceramic paining and this Sunday it’s a trip to the sea life centre. They do treasure hunts, museum visits, trips to the cinema plus they have swimming on site at the weekends too.

Hello everyone - I'm quite new to being a serious ballet lover, and this is my first post here!

Apparently Marianela slipped on some dry ice residue, at least that's what Vadim told me when I just happened to pass him at the stage door, being very politely besieged by some of his teenage fan club!

Although I thought she recovered admirably - it was only a split second after all - it does make you wonder if the use of dry ice in ballet isn't inherently dangerous?

This makes sense then as James Large appeared to slip/ stumble as he ran on at the start of act two in the same place Marianella slipped.

Thank you. It wasn't just me that thought she slipped during the Grand Finale (and looked rather unhappy afterward).  I was also so pleased to see Avis tonight.

She did indeed look unhappy and appeared to “ mark” or possibly “ limp” through the last few bars of choreography. She looked very sad or unwell… couldn’t work out which. It was my first time seeing them

both live and despite her mishap I thought they were sublime and I cried throughout their first adage

Stanmore is on the jubilee line so yes you should be able to get there from Covent Garden: picadilly line to Green Park and Jubilee line from Green Park to Stanmore ….as far as I know there’s no main tube strike action on the 14th but it’s the RMT union striking so best to double check certain stations aren’t affected with lack of staff etc ( not that staff are that bountiful these days but it can close stations if nobody st all is turning up) as it’s not a drivers strike as such. Hope you get to see it.

So do I .. my son is performing in it ! 🤞🏻

I live between Bedford and Milton Keynes. On three rail strike days with evening performances to attend I've been able to park very easily (and free) near Stanmore Tube station and take the tube from there. Just come off the M1 at Junction 4 and it's an easy and short journey from there. Parkopedia was useful to establish spaces for free parking. The large tube station car park (459 spaces) is £6 if you are not as tight as I am.

How long is it from Stanmore to Covent garden?

I have tickets on 14th December for nutcracker 7:30. I’m in Wellingborough so trains will be few and far between .
Would I still be able to get a train back from Covent Garden to Stanmore?

Technically he is one of the best.  Not sure about THE  best.  I can think of at least two who could compete with him for that title.  🙂

Exactly! There are some highly accomplished technical dancers out there who do absolutely nothing for me … musicality, emotion and acting wins me over rather than amazing feet and 10 pirouettes!

A bit of a long way back but there is a reference to James Hays jumps in the Royal Ballet streamed class on Wednesday but as far as I could see(only just watched) James Hay disappeared after the initial centre work so wasn’t there by the time the jumps started happening. Or have I got that wrong 🤔

The person jumping their heart out was Joe Sissens as I think he went across more times than some!!
It was good to see Darrion Sellman who joined RB from the Prix already in class with the Company.

Darrion Sellman is astonishing for his young age… he is one to watch!!
