  1. I think in contrast to the other 2 Tring is a performing arts school so they are not just looking for ballet dancers. I think the MDS awards are for ballet but the self funders could be chosen for other dance types or acting or singing. It always seems to me that in recent years the majority of girls at WL have had a considerable amount of training before they go there.
  2. I don’t think it’s new and quite a few of the pros appear to wear them? I remember Gelsey Kirkland describing attempting to make the top of her foot swollen to enhance the instep. Didn’t she end up having surgery? I can’t blame dancers for wearing them when such an inordinate amount of time is spent on praising nice feet!
  3. Pups_mum I agree with you in many respects. For me consultations and anything which relies on verbal communication primarily works pretty well but It’s the movement and close inspection elements that don’t work on zoom very well in my opinion. If you have more than one person on the call then the image is not good enough, even more so if you don’t have the fastest broadband. Personally I find looking at a smallish screen also impedes the line of the head etc. In a studio class you can use peripheral vision. I agree that a teacher who already knows you is likely to be a lot more successful and it will vary according to class. Some adult classes are more or less follow along with little correction so you probably wouldn’t lose too much (I tend to avoid those when possible though!). it would be interesting to see what @Michelle_Richerthoughts are as she’s put a huge amount of effort into her home studio and video link. I’m just using a laptop
  4. In current times I think yes zoom is great, the alternative would be no classes. However I really do hope that it is largely phased out when people can go back to studios! There’s no way a teacher can watch multiple students On a screen as closely as they can in class. No hands on touch for corrections, risk of injury because of less than optimal flooring etc, limitations on space. The kids also cleverly position the camera to cover up their weak spots🤣I think there’s also less performance element involved. it worries me a bit that the ‘big names’ may decide to offer online lessons and Hoover up a lot of students due to their prestige. On the one hand it’s no problem if the kids enjoy it etc but it’s likely to be to the detriment of local teachers isn’t it? (And to the student if their technique isn’t closely monitored)
  5. The National trust and forestry commission have kept their car parks and walks open this time (and takeaway cafe facilities). Which is a really positive thing for those of us without beautiful country walks on our doorstep! It doesn’t really feel like a ‘lockdown’ although obviously there are more restrictions than there were.
  6. How bizarre, I think some people just want to have a good old nosy round your pictures etc!

It seems very unjust that people can’t get married at all. You can debate the ‘frills’ but it seems very unfair that the legal ceremony can’t go ahead
  8. To be fair all sports, choirs and many other activities are not necessarily just a hobby for those who choose to do them and they are all having to close too. Obviously it’s not good news but it is pretty much everything above the basics which is shutting☹️
  9. I think rehearsals will Be fine as they’ve now introduced pas de deux bubbles, distancing etc, and it’s a job that can’t be done from home.
  10. Theatres will definitely shut but live broadcasts might still be allowed (if there are any scheduled, I’ve lost track !)
  11. Probably all got a different opinion about whether this is the right course of action based on the evidence on transmission. But regardless, sorry to all those who got so close to actually seeing a live performance. Hopefully it will be a case of rescheduling rather than cancelling them
  12. Some places have still only got 20 cases per 100000 though. I think we need to take a very close look at why measures haven’t worked in some places and tackle the causes. I think it’s going to be very difficult to get sufficient support countrywide for a lockdown to make it work.
  13. I don’t think they carry as many models In some other countries so the range where pas de quatre is may not be the same. A lot of the models and options are fairly new out
  14. Would doing physiotherapy as a first degree and then a specialised masters give her more options in terms of employment if she wants to work with injured dancers? I think most of them are qualified physios? Certainly a lot of physios have a background in dance or sport so she would meet like minded people on the course
  15. Is the 2nd registration date, a second chance to enter or something to do with those already selected?
  16. If you’re travelling to a lower tier I’ve seen that advice. I haven’t seen any specific advice if you are travelling from a lower to higher tier, as theoretically you would be less of a risk than those living in the area. I was wondering whether it is allowed to travel with a friend to a performance but I guess the answer is no if the location is in tier 2!
  17. Perhaps they will develop a more dynamic seating plan in time. Whilst prioritising pairs makes sense in one respect, they would presumably maximise capacity even more by offering some family groups. Perhaps that could offset the provision of more single seats!
  18. Does your tier depend on your home address or your geographical location at the time? (Sorry to ask I know everyone is fed up of the whole thing!)
  19. Haven’t tried the pro-flex but the novice comes with a super soft shank (which I believe can be put onto any other shoe as a special order). They’re too soft for me, but I presume that’s because I’ve got a high arch and am adult size! The thing I find with grishko is that it’s just the section at the Demi pointe that is rock solid, the rest of the shank isn’t that hard. I’ve only had the ‘roll through’ models but that section still doesn’t give a lot. I think the pro flex is meant to be more flexible there.
  20. I came across their policy when looking for the RB one https://media.royalacademyofdance.org/media/2019/01/11124302/RAD_exams_conflict_of_interest_policy_9_feb_2018_ex.pdf On quick glance it looks like they wouldn’t be given an area/ school/pupil that they have taught in the previous 2 years, but there are many more informed on the RAD on the forum!
  21. Hi Michelle, the QR codes are mandatory in cafes, pubs, restaurants but not in shops. Personally I think the Bluetooth system is better in shops as it will detect if you’ve actually been near someone who tests positive, I don’t scan the QR code in shops. I wear a mask and stay well away from other people. If I pop into the shop for 5 minutes at 8am and scan the QR code I won’t be logged out until midnight and I just can’t afford to keep isolating if I haven’t even been in contact! I usually avoid supermarkets but if I go it’s after 8pm and you can keep well away from people then, although pretty much everyone is wearing a mask here. good to hear the pointe has improved a bit. Is it just rubbing on the little toe? 6 hours of pointe is an awful lot, my feet hurt just thinking about it!
  22. The likely grade probably depends on which syllabus too, it’s a huge achievement whatever the grade though. Good luck!
  23. Potentially it could be a conflict of interest, teaching privately on RBS premises is different to teaching at another venue. However, RBS themselves would need to judge based on job description, responsibilities etc. If they have allowed it then they must be happy with it. I did try and google their COI policy/ register but couldn’t find it. I can’t see that there is any issue with ballet boost arranging the course
  24. there was a limited company number at the bottom of the https://solt.co.uk page. If you click again onto the theatre arts fund link it does indeed give the registered charity number
  25. I noticed one of the newspaper reports mentioned possible criminal proceedings. I do hope this poor family will not have to wait much longer to have their case heard.
