  1. That's a load of extra expense. I thought it was a typo and they actually meant R&J. Either that or someone in Japan has very deep pockets.
  2. The Royal Opera House has announced details for its 2021/22 Season, the first full Season since 2019. Opening on Monday 13 September, the Season includes five world premieres from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, classic revivals and an exciting roster of international and UK talent performing across the two stages of the Royal Opera House. In its 90th anniversary year, The Royal Ballet presents a Season that respects the past and heralds the future. Three world premieres, including Wayne McGregor’s The Dante Project, Christopher Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate and a new work by American choreographer Kyle Abraham, are performed alongside much-loved 19th-century classics and heritage ballets by Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan. The Linbury Theatre hosts a raft of partnerships and co-productions including with Ballet Black, Alessandra Ferri, Yorke Dance Project and a world premiere from Company Wayne McGregor. Creative opportunities for emerging talent will also feature with Draft Works and the Next Generation Festival. The Season culminates in July 2022 with The Royal Ballet making a welcome return to international touring with a three-week tour of Japan where the Company will perform Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon and Peter Wright’s Giselle. 9. Glad to see McRae back after 3(?) years. A new partner for Muntagirov then (assuming he will do Romeo)? The Friend's newsletter of 1 April said the Autumn season guide would be sent out on 1 June so perhaps we'll get an idea of the new season next week.
  10. More rehearsal - this time for Optional Family The Royal Ballet rehearse Kyle Abraham's Optional Family - YouTube
  11. The Royal Ballet School Summer Performance (roh.org.uk) Current dancers from The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme, having missed the opportunity last year in their graduate year at the School, join the performance on the Royal Opera House Main Stage in a varied programme of highlights from the classical and contemporary repertory.

  13. 'Wasn't intending to compare them, as you rightly point out. But, as I see it (other equally valid opinions available) they both left because the ROH system didn't work for them, for whatever reason. Like any other job, everyone doesn't fit everywhere or can get tired of/bored with their situation. That's when you know it's time to move on. There well may be no "fault" involved. And why should the ROH or any company indulge a temper tantum from anyone? Cojocaru has continued to thrive and Polunin is doing his own thing. He and the ROH seem to be doing very well without each other. Good for them.

  15. and the Telepgraph...less impressed, still moaning about the drinks and couldn't be bothered to get a current picture (paywall, limited access with registration and undoubtedly in tomorrow's links) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/dance/ballet/21st-century-choreographers-royal-opera-house-review-balletic/

  17. Interesting you mention Cojocaru & Polunin - both of whom left the company acrimoniously as I recall. Perhaps the ROH is selecting for talented people who can and are willing to work within the ROH system, which may not be for everyone?
  18. was this meant to refer to the Reuter's link? (v. casting sheet)
  19. I found it by typing "cast sheet" into the search field on the ROH website but I see now it's on that pesky "More Info" page 21st-Century Choreographers (roh.org.uk) in the right column. I think it was only posted in the last hour or so so it might not have been anywhere when you looked.

  21. Your memory appears excellent - Apollo 28 Min - Apollo | New York City Ballet (nycballet.com) - Tch - ~ 9:50 based on World Ballet Day rehearsal (a good excuse to watch it again); 10 minutes per Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux | Balanchine - DAAG - ~66 minutes based on DVD
  22. Spring Draft Works - Royal Opera House Stream (roh.org.uk) which is vimeo.
  23. It is ~ 32 minutes on the DVD without curtain calls if that helps.
