We could potentially look at Europe as well 😊

Hello, I am the parent of a year 10 student who would like to audition for dance colleges for year 12. I’m wondering if there is a list somewhere on here of all the options available. Also curious how these are funded? Are student loans available or funding/bursary? Or are they self funded? interested in ballet but also willing to look at other dance styles eg contemporary and musical theatre, open to all ideas. so far we have Royal Ballet School Central School of ballet Tring Elmhurst Hammond There must be others, what am I missing?

I wouldn’t worry too much, it seems fairly unlikely Rishi will survive the next election.

Hi there, A couple of things. At CSB, the associates and the main school are quite separate entities, so I wouldn’t let one failed audition for their associate programme put you off. Also, I think you should go ahead and audition for RBS if you want to. After all, you’ll never know if you don’t try, and there’s nothing to lose. I do have a recommendation for a wonderful private ballet coach you could see to help you prepare for the auditions, and also to give you an honest evaluation of your potential/talent, possibly offer advice as to the best places to apply based on your strengths. If you are London-ish based, let me know if you would like the details.

RIP Shirley, what a fountain of knowledge she was for all lucky enough to encounter her

Wondering if those who auditioned for Central have results yet? And what did you decide? Central or ENBS?

Does anyone have an unwanted prep 2 belt? I don’t really want to pay 5.95 + 3.95 (belt and shipping) when I’m sure someone who has moved up to prep 3 must have one ??

I think that those who are already in associates (mids and higher) have had their offers, so perhaps just waiting for all those to confirm before they send out further offers?

Thanks everyone for your recommendations and for messages sent as well, we have two trials arranged for this weekend, and depending on how those go, will look at a couple of other schools as well. Many thanks, the help is much appreciated

It’s the final cull, as well as decisions for company, tour and waitlist

Thank you @Jan McNulty, out of that list, Sarah Toner works best for us geographically, but I can’t find much info online - does anyone here know if she still has a school in Finsbury Park/Highbury?

My daughter is year 8, and is not at a vocational school. She attends classes at two different ballet schools, and also an associate programme attached to one of the schools. I don’t think she is making the progress she could be or should be, and between the two schools there seems to be a lack of performance opportunity and a slight lack of ‘seriousness’ about the training, that I have seen in other places. So I guess I’m looking for recommendations of schools or classes for this age group in London area (we are east so possibly Essex as well), that will nurture her ambition to dance a bit more? Realising I need to make a change for her as what we are doing now is not really working, and she would love to dance seriously

So her teachers recommend she leaves ballet because of puberty? All those other girls are going to go through puberty also at some point. If that’s the only reason I would decline the offer of changing programme. It doesn’t give a good message to your daughter or the other dancers. I actually find this kind of outrageous and I’m upset for you and daughter. Could you and her teachers try to help her feel positive about her body, help her with the emotions she is experiencing rather than moving her out of the programme due to body changes? I would just worry about the message that gives her about her body.

White lodge video audition - making a video

I wouldn’t read too much into it, it was just a surprise that it had been viewed again at all. Could be someone opened it by accident or anything really!- 1,568 replies

Would have to check to be exact but late last week I think? No she didn’t go to finals so we are not expecting to get MA’s, I was surprised it had been looked at again- 1,568 replies

Well, we’ve had another view of our preliminary video so perhaps some decisions are being made? Or not??😂- 1,568 replies

There possibly is? I don’t think there is a conflict from figure skating point of view, figure skaters will often do ballet classes to help with their skating. I can imagine there could be an issue the other way round, but it hasn’t been flagged up yet. So far, if anything, one seems to help the other. Certainly is a risk of injury though! Figure skating and ballet are equally physique dependent, figure skaters careers end possibly even sooner than ballet dancers? Music could definitely wait I guess This is the problem, no favourite at this stage! Both are equally competitive I think, it might be a case of which discipline ‘chooses her’ rather than the other way around in the end. Many thanks for your considered response, it’s much appreciated x

At what point did your child ‘specialise’ in dance, as in gave up other activities to spend more time on dance? My 12 year old DD is a keen dancer and has had some success auditioning for performances and associate schemes etc, but is also a nationally ranked figure skater, and a gifted musician (She has a music place at a school where the ‘music’ places are highly sought after and competition for the places is strong.) If she is to have a chance of a career in dance, which is one of her ideas now, would she need to give up her other activities? And at what stage??? She is not ready to let them go yet, nor do I really want her to or think she should, but at the same time, do not want to limit her options if she continues to want to follow a dance career

Thank-you, not sure we can handle any more video submissions!

Are all of these summer schools selective? Or are they just pay and attend?
