  1. A writer for The Traveling Ballerina was in Fort Lauderdale last weekend, so decided to see MCB's A Midsummer Night's Dream; she also reviewed the performance. Personally, I absolutely adore the original Balanchine version so probably would have a difficult time accepting this one.
  2. Here's my thoughts about my first time seeing Mariinsky Ballet live. I went in without any judgement or concrete expectations and left looking forward to seeing them again in the fall when they will perform Paquita
  3. For those interested in reading it, I've written a review of the NYCB performance I saw last night. I left the show feeling a bit ambiguous, appreciative of their technical abilities and at the same time lacking an emotional response to what I saw.
  4. I've also - for those who do not speak Spanish - captioned the video that was posted by the Spanish government earlier today
  5. Possibly...I was actually thinking about that and wondering if he would still perform at CND, parallel to what Tamara Rojo has done at ENB.
  6. FYI, I've expanded my article to cover more details that have come up since I first published this morning.
  7. I'm already in love with Spain, so this is just one more reason to add to my list! This is what I know so far.
  8. For any of you curious about or planning a trip to Washington, D.C. within the next year, here's the ballet programming for The Kennedy Center. I'm so excited to see Paquita in its entirety!
  9. This is such a wonderful program! I wish something like this existed when I was training!
  10. Oh, that would be interesting. Keep us posted if you hear more.
  11. Thank you so much for sharing, @Lucinda! I myself started wearing Maker N back around 1990 when I was a student at the School of American Ballet. I recall going into the School's pointe shoe room on Wednesdays (the one day of the week it was available to us) and being fascinated by all the options - how lucky we were! When I became a professional, I continued to use Maker N until the end of my performing career, of course customizing it to my liking
  12. I'd love to meet and have a conversation with a maker some day!
  13. So I've just come across this video showing the making of R-Class pointe shoes. I think it's wonderful insight for students, parents, and professionals - enjoy!
  14. Since many of you in this forum are in England, I was wondering if any have seen this ballet; would love to hear your thoughts about it. I adore almost anything about Frida Kahlo so I wish Broken Wings would make it here to The States. Since at the moment I am out of luck in that regard, if anyone out there is attending the April performances and is interested in being the eyes and ears of The Traveling Ballerina, I would love to chat about you writing a review for the website - it would be wonderful to expose more of the going-ons in London to those on the other side of the Atlantic
  15. Although I had moments of "wow" during the evening, this production felt a bit incohesive to me. Here are some more of my thoughts - has anyone else seen Raise the Red Lantern?
  16. So, just as Cunard and ENB are collaborating, so are Celebrity Cruises and ABT. Here's all the information I've put together so far. As I am also a travel agent, I am in contact with the cruise line directly to see if there is more information they will allow me to publish; I will update my article any time I get some new scoop!
  17. You're welcome, @squadron! I look forward ro seeing Mr. Whiteside more in the future, especially in roles driven by character. Based on our opinions together, it sounds like he has a broad range...something I really appreciate in an artist.
