We were quite confused at the end as, instead of the curtain going up on the whole cast as usual, the ‘red run’ curtain calls took place. We were surprised but went along with it. Then there was a pause and the audience almost went quiet - I think everyone was confused as to what was going on - but then the curtain went up and the usual applause for the whole cast rang out enthusiastically.

For Nutcracker they have a short first red run while they shift the workshop set out the way

Thank you for the photos, RobS! I enjoy seeing them as much as the ballets! How lovely to have a photographic record of celebrations for Peter Wright- 95 years old and all those wonderful productions, and his work at Stuttgart, Covent Garden, Birmingham (and  when they were based at Sadlers Wells)...truly awesome. (I’m hoping there was more Nutcracker-themed cake backstage.😀)

I don't think the whole cake is edible, it's what they use during Act 1, the actual cake was the bit in front and did have candles on it which he blew out 🙂

How many hours in advance does the digital cast sheet for tomorrow's performances go on the website?  I would quite like to print a copy before I go, as I found fiddling with my phone a bit irritating.

It's not an exact science, the one for yesterday's matinee was less than three hours before while some performances it's been there the night before

Otherwise surely Hilarion & Albrecht wouldn't have both been so stupid as to visit a wood, alone, at night, where dozens of other men had previously been found dead!

Hmmm...well it's obvious that a branch or small shrubbery covers the sign at the entrance of Drowned Blokes Wood until the unsuspecting chap walks past it when suddenly it becomes visible to everyone else

Musing on Giselle while doing the ironing earlier, it occurred to me to wonder if Albrecht will be suspected of murdering Hilarion? I mean, 2 men who are known to be enemies visit the same wood on the same night & then one of them is found drowned, surely the other one has to be a suspect. Not that anything would be done about it, as Albrecht is of too high a rank, but I can imagine the village gossip!

Suspect number one would surely be Berthe...there must have been loads of dead men found in Drowned Bloke Woods and they can't all have been enemies of Albrecht yet Berthe was able to tell everyone exactly what happens!!

I saw the very first performance of this run and two of the dancers were completely out of time.  I remarked it at the time.  I am very happy that the latest iteration are so good as it is those I will be seeing this weekend!

Oh, do you mean two were out of time when all six were dancing or a pair of dancers were out of time with the music?

I think it's just more impressive because it's harder to do with your arms along your body. I think Federico for instance does 25ish perfect entrechats and then starts flapping his arms for the last few ones, when real exhaustion kicks in. Once I saw Bolle doing 40 without ever moving his arms and the audience went wild.

What did the Wilis do during those!? Go and have a brew?
