A light hearted post at these unprecedented times.
Out of interest how many other parents have relinquished their living room UFN for their darling US DC to create a studio?
I’m sure I can’t be the only one.

With vocational training now online (new term today) with registration at 10 with lessons right through until 4pm. I found myself spending Sunday afternoon rearranging/stacking all the living room furniture just create enough clear floor space. Even removing the centre light fitting for safety reasons and to create more height.
Am I crazy or am I joining an ever growing band of like minded (slightly crazy) parents.

Uni students require a laptop and desk
Ours on the other hand .........................
    😉🙆‍♀️🙆🏻‍♂️🩰🕺🏻💃🏼😂

Yes. Thank the lord I thought I may be majorly crazy but now I know there are others like me 😂😂😂😂

Resurrecting this post in the hope for some further insight into RCS if anyone can help.  DD is considering applying but is keen on contemporary and would like to understand how much of the timetable is given to contemporary on a weekly basis and also if improv/creative classes are also available.  DD wants to keep up Ballet to a high level after leaving vocational but really interested in progressing in contemporary.  Do they only take the “typical” ballet dancer (I don’t mean that in any way offensive just don’t know how else to express it) or do they have a cross section of experience in dance, body shape etc  Many thanks

My daughter is currently at RCS and absolutely loves it.  They do lots of both ballet and Contemporary  (different genre of contemporary every year) and I would say they very much have a range of body types.    They have so many opportunities to be creative and choreograph their own work.  My daughter loves both ballet and contemporary so this was a focus for us when applying.  Is your daughter applying this year or next?

Thanks to everyone for their replies - really helpful !!

yes 2dancersmum, DS is competent in dance/acting/singing (although by far his comfort zone is in dance - all genres but particularly the more classical side) . He has a nice voice and his present school has dragged that out of him 🤣 - but singing at the moment he feels is his weaker of the three compared to dance & acting.

so if he were to go down the diploma route - it would be the professional dance diploma.

I just didn’t want him to entirely focus on the classical/contemporary schools and not consider some of the musical theatre options -  particularly if they offer a strong focus on ballet/dance.

When I ask him ..... it’s ballet all the way - so I suppose I have to trust his judgement, perhaps things may become clearer over the next couple of years 😊

Hi  Just to add a voice.  My DD currently attends RCS (1st year) and loves it.  She gets full student loan (so helps out with finance side of things) and scholarships are available too.  She started at 16.  There is a heavy focus on ballet, with 3 different genre of contemporary being taught across the 3 different years.  It's a degree course.  They also have jazz classes and have the opportunity to collaborate with the other performing art disciplines throughout the year which is great.  Finally, there is the opportunity to dance with the Scottish ballet company in final year.  2 of the current 3rd years are in the BBC young dancer ballet final on TV next week- have a watch.  DM me if you have any questions :)

How many normally go to finals at rcs? I’d be interested to know how the ballet compares to that of the northern ballet course? Thanks

Hi.  there were about 40-45 in the RCS final last year split into 2 groups of 20-23.  The first year class is made up of only 17 so its nice and intimate.  Good luck with auditions :)

Hi all, 2 questions if anyone can answer them!

    1) what do parents do at the northern ballet school audition as it takes almost all day I gather?

    2) how long does it take for prelim results to come from RCS and NBS? Had a lovely audition at RCS today and my northern one on Monday! RCS just said probably within a week, but aahhh I hate the waiting game 😬

Hi best of luck with  it all

My daughters audition last year was Monday 22nd Jan, we had call back email exactly 1 week later 9although they did say it could take up to 2 weeks):)  Fingers crossed for you.  :)

Thanks blueLou. Can you recall what time it was all done by in the last day? Dc has finals other side of country next day  which may not make in time if finishes late and need to see if worth applying for first before parting with the hefty £85 to apply .

The second day finish relatively early if you didn't want the tour of the main campus and accommodation- I would say 3pm at the latest.  My dd is a 1st year here and absolutely loves it :)

    Hi all,

Having been a member of this forum for a couple of years and having gained so much knowledge throughout that time, enabling my DD to be offered places at several SS's and successfully nailed her very first audition for her first choice vocational school.

I just thought I would take the opportunity as the summer holidays draw to a close, to pass on my GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES to all the other teens who have survived GCSE season/results day as well as the all important Ballet exams and now will also shortly be heading off to Vocational Upper School.

Pastures new and exciting times ahead for all.  😍 xxx

I am feeling exactly the same and would like to wish everybody's dancing children all the best for their new adventures.  I am a relatively quiet member of this forum but have found it to be invaluable when we embarked upon the audition season last year for the first time and thankfully for the last (well until job auditions commence but that is now a few years away).  My daughter is also making list after list, we have been on the big move out shop this week and are picking up the bulk of the uniform on Sunday  (Not leo's as they are made by a specialist via the school).  I am so excited for my DD but I am very apprehensive at the same time.  16 is such a young age to move hundreds of miles away but like they say you have to let them live their dream.  I wish your daughter all the best, northern ballet isn't far from me.  I am sure we will all sink a glass or 2 of wine the weekend they move just to get through it :)

  9. Upper school place week 1 and 2

AW have had to turn down our place to the Covent Garden Upper Summer School (week 1 and 2 ).  In the end we simply couldn't finance it.  Somebody on the waiting list might get a nice surprise soon :)

Thanks everyone for your sympathy and support. Unfortunately this is one year into a 3 year course. And of course we have missed the boat for auditions for next year (location does not make it easy to audition elsewhere). The only consolation is that accommodation for next year will be different, and hopefully better (it can hardly be worse). My YDA is adamant that she wants to stay there in spite of everything and I think she will only change her mind on this point with a reasonable alternative on offer. Her greatest fear is of stopping dance altogether.  Also given the many great things we had heard about this school before deciding to go there (including from other posts on this forum), we are both a little wary of jumping ship without doing a lot of homework. KS Dance sounds interesting, does anyone know if they are flexible if not possible to attend on set audition date? if anyone has other suggestions (especially schools with a contemporary focus -her confidence in ballet has been severely compromised) that would also be welcome. Thanks again.

KS Dance are very flexible. I would encourage you to get in touch asap. You may still be lucky enough to beable to transfer for Sept. They also have a fab international summer school. Check it out  😊

  11. My dd has been fortunate enough to have been a midland associate for 2 years, has attended Opes many years ( 5th year coming up) and has had many other opportumities through current dance school and another associate scheme to be taught by both Peter and Shannon. Dd absolutely LOVES them both and only stopped attending associates as it was a 2.5 hour trip to get there. If you are relatively local do it, could you not do it alongside JAs? They are truly inspirational 😊

...... It was a no :( the lady on the phone said "well, if it makes you feel better we'll put her on the waiting list but don't hold out much hope."

I don't expect to get in but ballet really is cruel sometimes. I've had 4 Nos and no Yeses yet this year 😓 Beginning to think that however hard I work and how much I love it I will never be successful. But at least I have Associates and my EYB audition this weekend . Thanks everyone. I am going to book a week at OPES and try to find another nice and small but good quality SS.

Look at KSD International Summer School it is fab :)
