  1. Has anyone else just received this? It is more comprehensive than the standard "how do you feel?" questionnaire, as it includes opportunities to comment rather than just answering multiple choice questions. Worth doing, I would suggest, for any Friend who wants to give positive or negative feedback on the sort of issues oft discussed on BCF!

I would advise any ballet lover to watch Alice on dvd first if you haven't seen it and perhaps save some money.

I disliked it on the 1st night, thought I should try again and really disliked it even more second time!...

Yes I recall starting to watch the dvd but it  made me feel rather ill, and I never got to the end...I suppose I could try again but unfortunately this may well be one I have to miss.....

Siegfried is consigned to the floor for much of the last part

Only near the end after he is struck down by VR just as Odette runs away to jump off the rock. The premise is that  only her sacrifice can defeat VR, so I don't have a problem with S being seen as being pretty useless (again!) at this point. He remains true to character..🙄

But where Act IV really  shines is in the wonderful Corps dancing, the PDD, and the music....

We could have Nutcracker as well. Coppelia was programmed as well as Nutcracker last time.

There was no Nutcracker in 2019/20 when Coppelia was on last. Did you mean Cinderella rather than Coppelia?

But  I don’t yet ‘get’ why she is coming to be regarded as ‘extra special’. Maybe BCF members could help me?

(This relates to Viola Pantuso)....I would slightly more cautiously describe her at this stage as having the potential to become a stand-out dancer, or to become 'extra special' if you like. Others will  be better able to rate her technical skills but she looks very proficient to me and more importantly she just seems to  catch the eye in her characterisations and to have a great charisma ...the sort of quality which may be easier to experience than describe. Certainly her Clara, for me, was a complete breath of fresh air.....

A big thank you to whoever/the people at ROH who thought of putting the advance ticket return option on the website and implemented it successfully! 👍 👏

Yes indeed.....a great boon which I don't believe is offered by any other comparable venue.

Current bugbear is people who are so intent on posting to the virtual world of social media at the end of a performance that they block the stairways and corridors

Also I have seen several instances, pre performance start or resumption,  of younger fashionably dressed ladies, on their own or with partners, standing in the aisle whilst taking numerous selfies or having someone take shots of them in artful poses. All very entertaining, apart from the problem of the aisle clogging up with people trying to get to their seats.....

the fact I prefer the views from stalls/stalls circle mean I have to be around more people who at any time are liable to behave like this.

What a horrible experience for you......however as @LinMM had suggested, this sort of aggressive behaviour is likely to be very rare... hopefully next time you will meet a lovely neighbour  who will restore the balance to a degree! Most times I have found people nearby very polite, and often prepared to chat and share ballet gossip and experiences.

I think you’re right. I’ve always been a huge MacMillan supporter, but I remember feeling somehow disappointed at the first night. Second and third showings better (90’s and 00’s)…but seeing both casts in this run I found it a stunning work. The elements I wasn’t sure about 40 years ago (?!) such as the Jesus figure, the brothel scene, the gas masks etc,  just added this time round to this amazing mystical symbolic religious mash-up which went from hyper-real to surreal in a moment. That’s what you get when you see something at 30…and now at 70…now that’s something else!🤣

Yes perceptions do change over time, and I would be perfectly  happy if Different Drummer  next returned in 40 years!

Haven't used the Great Northern for several years but Thameslink gets a lot of train cancellations on overtime ban days. The very last service of the night tends not to be cancelled but you often find that it contains passengers from 2 or 3 services that were cancelled so.....sardine time.

Once, the last service was cancelled but the second last service became the last one....a bit scary if you didn't know! That's rare nowadays but can still happen. If the last train is cancelled and you're forced to take a cab instead, the rail company should reimburse you (the usual online form to apply). But you still have to pay the [hefty] cab fare yourself first until you get reimbursed. (That's for my area- in the past you didn't have to but the system has now changed.)

Thanks @Emeralds...will be looking to avoid main rail and catch the tube from Cockfosters instead....
