  1. I've only recently discovered him as a dancer, but I grew up watching him in the musical Slipper and the Rose. I had such a crush on him. He has a great singing voice.
  2. I'll admit I'm very happy about this news but at the same time I'm kind of annoyed at it because I was really looking forward to Don Q. Surely this has been something that's been in pre-production and casting for a while. I would understand why they would keep them on regular performances until announced, but a cinema relay must have been planned a while ago. I'll probably feel less annoyed once its announced McRae's been taken off Don Q. But for now he's still there and in limbo. I do look forward to the movie though. It was my Grandmothers favorite musical.

  4. I feel for you. Downsizing your library is a very painful process. Do you have an ereader or such? I've replaced all my books with ebooks so i can still have them. The only physical book copies i have are special books.
  5. I didn't quite get the Hungarian officers. I saw the cinema relay and i found them very disrespectful. Isn't that their prince? Should they really be literally pushing and pulling him around? They seemed very hostile for even being friends. (this is a comment on the characters not the dancing which was wonderful)
  6. That would be so nice. I attempted watching the 2009 one with Edward Watson. There are way too many characters. I haven't a clue who any body is.
  7. The ones who are getting the relays do have artistic merit. There's no debate here that the ones cast in these relays do not have it. Wanting to see someone else in a role or believing someone is not right for the role doesn't diminish the artistic merit of the ones their commenting against. And the company is out to make money as they are a business, so if the royal ballet school dancers aren't good enough, why should they get priority just because they went there?
  8. I too relay heavily on the cinema relays from ROH. I haven't read the rest of the thread yet but I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few actually excited for McRae's broadcasts. I make it no secret I am a fan of his (and Lamb especially together), but that aside, casting is not a democracy and the ROH is a company that seeks to make money. Just look at their social media stats and you'll see both McRae and Nunez are amongst the most followed ROH dancers by people world wide so it makes sense that they are cast in more broadcasts. People world wide who can't get to the opera house wants to see them. It makes no sense to spread the broadcasts out more evenly. Casting, ballet, and life isn't fair especially where money is involved. If we want to talk fair I don't think its fair to put down the dancers just because they're popular and get more broadcasts. They're popular for a reason, because they're talented and good at marketing themselves and people want to watch them. I get that people are upset and want to see others in the roles but that doesn't mean you need to put down the other people. On a side note with all the lamenting of Bonelli/Morea not getting enough broadcasts compared to McRae, Nunez, Lamb, and Ospiova - No one seems to be commenting on the increased number of Muntagirov broadcasts in the past year. Or that principals like Kish, Campbell, Hirano, and Soares rarely has any at all. Also if you want to get technical, McRae has 20 cinema broadcasts where he played the lead in case you were wondering. Not including that "Fall of the house of Usher" which is a really weird one, and 5 that i know of where he was minor parts like Bratfish in 2009's Mayerling. Though I would have liked to see Bonelli in this role as I very much like him. I do apologize in advance if i have offended anyone, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on it. 20 Mins Later: Ok I read the rest of the thread. Good points everybody. I still stand by mine but meh. Lets just wish them all a great season and call it a day.

  11. I'm at work and i literally screeched out loud in excitement for Mayerling. I'm sorry, where was this casting list posted? I went to their website and i dont see anything listed on the performance pages.
  12. True, but ROH had only begun regular cinema relays as far as I can tell around 2011. So while i'm sure there are dvds or a random tv recording out there of them in their earlier years, there aren't many. And its nothing against the younger/newer principals, I was just listing a few one would like to see as i'm sure we all know who the princpals are they dont all need listing. I was just attempting to point out that those of us not in the UK, or at least most people I would presume, would rather see a known dancer in a role than a random up and coming soloist or first soloist whom I have no doubt could fill the roles just fine.
  13. So since this is a ballet forum lets use that as another example. So as ballet dancers, or dancers in general they train hard, dance hard. If one of them hurt themselves and they can no longer do their job do you expect them to sue the Royal Opera House for that? No, you'd expect that they knew that was a risk, that's their choice of profession and that's something that happened. A singer can damage their vocal cords, should they sue the company they work for? I can get carpal tunnel from my job as its all computer data work...should i sue my work? Ok that's going a bit far, they do provide wrist things. I love music and its tragic that he can't do what he loves anymore but...as I've already said, he knew what it entailed. Some professions there is risk. As someone who is tone deaf now and has severe back problems from lugging a tenor sax around their neck for 10 years and having horrible back and hip problems since, its not like i can just go sue my high school. It was my choice and i kept doing it. Just like this musician. I am sorry that you found offense to my comments of "suck it up" and "lame" however. Though, it is what I feel and as you stated your opinion i respect that, I have said mine.
  14. Interesting article and law suit. I completely get how he's feeling. I played Tenor Sax for 10 years and sat in front of the trumpets and trombones with the drums just off to the side. This was Middle/High school so of course everyone played as loud as they could. Even now almost 15 years after my last class I have hearing problems. Some sounds (especially whistling) is just so painful, and i get these weird pains inside my ear drum, like a muscle spasm type, and i can't hear certain frequency's which makes listening to people talk awkward. My long winded story is to basically say, he should just suck it up. He knew from the beginning when he chose to be a musician what it entails. The opera house could be more supportive by supplying ear plugs or regular hearing tests or whatever but basically, this law suit is lame and I hope they appeal it.
  15. It makes sense that they do for cinema's and dvds. Speaking as someone on the west coast of the US, a lot of people who love ballet and want to see one of the best companies are very limited to like 6 performances a year. And in those 6 performances, most people want to see the top dancers. No offense to the younger dancers or the non-principals but if i'm only going to get 6 Royal Ballet performances and have to drive 70 miles to the theater to view it, I want to see Nunez, Lamb, McRae, Bonelli, Watson, etc . I want to see the best they have to offer. And from a financial standpoint, because they are there to make money, I'm sure (at least from talking to fellow cinema people in my area) most people don't want to pay to go see or buy a dvd for a soloist in a main role when you could have had an established principal. (I mean in the cinema) Ok, maybe i'd buy a dvd...Maybe. I do see your point of views however, of wanting to see more of the younger talent get a chance, and I envy those of you who have a chance to watch them, but its not economically feasible for most people to fly to England to watch a performance. And I really appreciate that the Royal Ballet realizes that too.
