  1. I would absolutely love that but sadly I'd absolutely be amazed if it did happen.
  2. Yesterday eveing I felt like an Opera Ignoramus because I kept on forgetting to look at the surtitles for Cavelleria Rusticana. I've seen so much ballet at the ROH recently, while not making the last 2 opera I had booked due to train strikes, that I'm out of practice with needing to look at surtitles rather than just at the stage! By Pagliaccia I'd got back into remembering to look.
  3. Is there anyone who will be sitting/standing in the right hand side of the stalls circle for tomorrow evening's Nutcracker & would be able to quickly check something for me?
  4. Thinking about this, does Hirano do less international guesting than some of the other RB Principals & so is more available? Some Principals often get mentioned on here as guesting elsewhere but I can't think of many mentions for Hirano, apart from the ones in the UK with Scottish & Northern Ballets. Actually Lamb seems to rarely get mentioned as guesting either but I don't know if that's because she doesn't do much or because she's not on social media so it doesn't get publicised.
  5. Coincidentally, the ROH tweeted this today. Do I wish Lamb was dancing Manon with Muntagirov again? Yes. But I'm still planning to see her with Hirano, assuming I can get a ticket. (I don't currently have any tickets for Manon because I couldn't afford any when booking opened. Now I have the money but there aren't any of the tickets I'm after left so I'm going to have a horribly stressful Friday rush time come Jan-Feb.) The first time I saw Hirano was in Mayerling in 2018 when he replaced Watson, which was also my first time seeing not only the piece but the RB live. I can't say I was too keen on him from an acting point of view so I avoided booking specifically for him for a while after that, though I did see him in various triple bills & secondary roles in full length pieces which latter showed that I did like him in more "character" roles (Espada, Lescaut, Tybalt, Paris). I did see him as the Prince in the Nutcracker, because I wanted to see Magri's SPF debut & he was her partner, but that's not really an acting role. Then come the 2022 revival of Manon I ended up booking for both the casts he was with because I wanted to see Morera as Countess Larisch & Hamilton as Mary Vetsera. I found I much prefered his Rudolf with Hamilton's Mary Vetsera than with Osipova's, so I guess it took me 4 years to realise my Mayerling issue was more with Osipova than Hirano, though there are still other Rudolfs I prefer to Hirano's. In the same Mayerling run I received a bit of a shock when a review said that Lamb had just turned 42. I knew she wasn't young by ballet standards but I'd been thinking she was later 30s & still had a while to go. That made me realise that I'd better hurry up & see her in some more roles, as while I'd seen her in the MacMillans I'd not seen her in classics, apart from half an act of SL. So I saw her & Hirano in SB last season and, given the cast changes with McRae's injury, will probably see them in The Nutcracker, Manon & SL this season. In terms of other partners, I really liked her with Muntagirov but that doesn't seem to be happening at the moment. I really like her with McRae in Mayerling but didn't think Cinderella worked quite as well. I'm not very keen on her with Sambe as I think he's too short for her. I think that's everyone I've seen her with in full lengths, plus Edmonds in a couple of 1 acters. I'd potentially be interested in seeing her with Ball or Bracewell but I doubt that will happen given there's been no attempt to pair them for the last few seasons.
  6. Thanks for the heads up on that @jmhopton. My mother has a Telegraph subscription, which I borrow to read reviews & suchlike online (and of course Matt), so I've just booked. Whether the link will let us each watch on our own computers or whether we'll have to both huddle round one computer I guess we'll find out on the day.
  7. Yes, I got that, followed by the sofa with the estimated wait time going up & down like a yo-yo. Fortunately it seems no-one other than me is desparate to get stalls circle Cav & Pag rush tickets as when I got in 5 minutes later all the tickets were still available. It does not bode well for next week though when I'll be trying for The Nutcracker. By the way, I think I answered my own question from yesterday when about an hour ago a stalls ticket for tonight's Cav & Pag appeared on the website showing at £236 for me. Given it disappeared rapidly, presumably someone more fortunate than me picked it up for somewhere around a tenth of that. So it looks like whatever discounting is going on is not available to the general public. I find it depressing that on Monday I'll be sitting in my £65 restricted view bench seat looking down at the stalls partially filled with a couple of hundred people (there are currently 210 unsold stalls seats, plus goodness knows how many others in the other tiers) who will have paid a lot less than me for a much better view. ETA: I've just tried to have a look at this coming week's Nutcrackers, to see if the rush tickets went as quickly as I assumed they would, only to find that tomorrow evening's performance isn't showing up in the drop down list on the seat maps. It can't be because it's sold out as plenty of other performances that are sold out are showing up. I noticed the same issue with a Don Q performance when I was getting rush tickets for that (fortunately the missing performance wasn't one I was trying to get tickets for). I wonder what the ROH website is doing that is making performances vanish at random.
  8. That should read "tomorrow night's performance". Tonight's is of course The Nutcracker. I'm afraid I realised my mistake too late to edit my post.
  9. I'm hoping to see Cav & Pag next week so I've checked the ROH's website a number of times in the last few days in case a suitable return should appear for the date I'm after, which it hasn't. Each of the upcoming performances have been showing 100+ tickets up until lunchtime today. Now I see tonight's performance is down to only a handful of tickets & all the £150+ stalls tickets that haven't budged for days are gone. There must have been a significant price reduction. What I'd love to know is if the discount was in house only, or Young ROH only, or was it available to the general public? If the latter then I'll be spending the next few days frantically refreshing the ROH's website in the hope a similar reduction appears for next week's performances. What I don't want to do is to have to spend £65 that I don't really have at the moment on a restricted view Friday rush ticket only to find I could have got a stalls ticket for considerably less. So if anyone knows anything about who any price reductions have been & are likely to be open to then I'd really appreciate the information.
  10. What I'm not keen about Fritz not flying but freezing instead is that for me it dilutes the impact of everyone freezing a short time later when the angel crosses the stage.
  11. The ROH used to provide free cough sweets. I can't recall when exactly they stopped but I was looking at a programme from 2009 recently & there was an advert for them in it.
  12. I was offered a ticket, by a friend who's a Friend, but decided to against it as I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get there due to the train strikes. I was cursing when I looked up the cast list earlier! Especially as I can't see the only public Tsembenhoi/Rovero performance again due to trains, though that week it's engineering rather than strikes.
  13. Was Ikarashi down to dance Hans-Peter later in the run originally then? I don't recall him being in the original casting info at all. Also does anyone know if Acri's performance as the Prince at the first schools matinee will be his role debut? I don't remember him dancing that role in previous runs, only Hans-Peter, but I may be mistaken.
  14. As his performance aren't until January hopefully he'll recover in time if he is injured or ill. Out of the Hans-Peters Joshua Junker, injured before the Insight livestream, and Valentino Zuchetti, out of his first Prince performance, I guess are also ones to keep an eye on for whether they recover in time for later in the run.
  15. Lots of cast changes, including the replacement of Gartside as previously discussed upthread, have now appeared on the ROH website. I've listed (hopefully) all of them on the autumn casting thread. (Hope it's okay to link to that thread. I know we're not supposed to post the same info on 2 different threads.) I confess I am a bit diasppointed that Gartside's Drosselmeyers are being shared out between Avis, Whitehead & O'Brien rather tahn O'Brien taking over all of them, as it means that for the performance I'm booked for I won't get to see O'Brien.
  16. Please could we have one more revival first because I'd really like to see it!
  17. At every Don Q curtain call during the recent run I found myself wishing the Queen of the Dryads & Amour could appear in those costumes. The tutus looked lovely at a distance so I would have liked to be able to get some zoomed-in photos of them to see the details!
  18. Quite a few Nutcracker cast changes have appeared today on the ROH website. 6th December schools matinee Luca Acri replaces Valentino Zuchetti as the Prince and Marianna Tsembenhoi replaces Bomin Kin as Clara 7th December schools matinee Nicol Edmonds replaces Benjamin Ella as the Prince 9th December Paul Hamlyn matinee Daichi Ikarashi replaces James Hay as Hans-Peter 18th December Thomas Whitehead replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 19th December Daichi Ikarashi replaces James Hay as Hans-Peter 20th December matinee Aiden O'Brien replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 22nd December matinee Aiden O'Brien replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 22nd December evening Daichi Ikarashi replaces James Hay as Hans-Peter 23rd December matinee Thomas Whitehead replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 27th December matinee Marianna Tsembenhoi replaces Bomin Kin as Clara 27th December evening Gary Avis replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 29th December Gary Avis replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 4th January Aiden O'Brien replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 11th January Gary Avis replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer 13th January Thomas Whitehead replaces Bennet Gartside as Drosselmeyer I hope that's all of them! All the new ones that is, I haven't included the previous ones of Clarke replacing Corrales & Hirano replacing McRae.
  19. I think that's an excellent idea & wish all Manons would do the same, as I have yet to see a dancer who looks good in Manon's final wig in curtain call photos. Likewise I thought it was a great pity Laura Morera had to do her farewell curtain calls in the very similar & equally unflattering Anastasia Act III wig.
  20. Is this clearer when seeing the production live? When I watched the TV broadcast in 2021 everyone just seemed to have rather random whiteish smears with little clouds of chalk visibly coming off dancers. I found Inferno pretty confusing all round. On the cast sheets the titles of some of the sections sound really interesting - "The Pope's Adagio", "Pavan Of The Souls In Limbo", "Stations Of The Cross" - but when watching it for me it was all just a bunch of difficult to recognise dancers in greyish unitards doing similar-looking choreography. (I have abandoned hope that I will ever "get" McGregor!)
  21. If BRB cast the Lilac Fairy in the way the RB do, i.e. usually taller dancers, then perhaps she could be on course to do that role.
  22. Are you sure your email didn't have anything about cast changes because I would assume that's the same email I received (at 15.44) & the cast change info is a small paragraph lurking about three-quarters of the way down. I would probably have overlooked it if I hadn't been looking out for it.
  23. An email has just arrived from ENB which mentions there are Nutcracker cast changes but it just gives a link to the website rather than specifying what changes have happened. Also the info is rather buried among a bunch of other news, info & advertising. I don't know if they've sent/will send separate cast change emails to ticket holders with more detailed information.
  24. Comparing the casting now on ENB's website with that on the first page of this thread it looks like not only has Frola been replaced by Erik Woolhouse but also Fernando Carratala Coloma has been replaced by Daniel McCormick, and Ken Saruhashi and Edvinas Jakonis have swapped partners. So there must presumably be more issues than just Frola being injured to required that many Nephew changes. While I will be very disappointed if Frola can't recover in time for Giselle, I believe this is the first time he's been injured, or at least injured enough to have to miss performances, since 2018 so he's done pretty well at ENB up until now. (Certainly better than Corrales, who I gather he effectively replaced, has done at the RB in the same time period.)
