  1. Hi Lindsey ,

I don’t usually write much on here, just a lurker but felt compelled to say that even though it doesn’t seem it, from our experience sometimes it’s all for the best and exactly what everyone else has said, it’s not their time.
my daughter was decided quite late that it was suddenly her dream to go to a specific vocational school. She had a really bad final audition and hence didn’t get a place. I’ve never seen her so devastated. Adamant she was going to try again we did our best to build her confidence and she started entering comps which she’s never done before and show her things that were new. Fast forward a few months and after stepping out of the associate scheme bubble she realised that actually this school was not what she wanted and we didn’t even go to the audition that we’d payed for. She’s now pleased she got a no as she wouldn’t have had the experiences she had had this year .
I hope your daughter feels better soon and having a new school and teacher could be exactly what she needs, esp with less pressure of the year 7 audition process .

  2. Sometimes an email is sent out asking if London and Eastleigh kids want to audition and then you come to Covent Garden for the audition. Sometimes a person will come and watch class and pick and then with the boys I’ve heard they just ask specific kids if they think they fit the role.

I've been wondering the same and asked the question around but not heard anything- so I've asked on the old 'starting JAs' thread from last year to see if anyone went through the online JAs on there and knows what the cost was! If I find out I'll try and reply here. Seems weird there is no mention of a cost! They did say there would be more information in July- so assuming it will come out then perhaps.

Just looked back and in 2020 when ur first started , the cost was £160

    Hello there,

are there any parents among you whose child will go to the first week of the summer intensive and is age 10-11? I would be so happy to contact you and have some talks, make our children know each other a bit... I know it is not a school year just some days, not a big deal, but my daughter has never been alone without me so far AND she knows very little English (though I started to teach her how to use google translate in live conversations :)

Feel free to message me. My daughter is that week along with 3 girls she knows.

Just wondering if anyone has any top tips on what to pack for DDs first Summer Intensive.  Do they need some activities for down time?  Or are they pretty busy all the time?  Also, do they live in leos all week?  Or will she need a lot of 'home clothes', too?

I made the mistake last year of not packing normal clothes. The girls seemed to like to change after class .

We will be turning down our MA place and I know we're not the only ones, so there will be movement on the waiting list.

I need to have a good chat with my daughter but I think we might be turning down our place too so I think there will definitely be movement from waitlist

Are photos to be taken in shoes and socks or bare feet? I know the website says bare legs with shoes and socks, but dds ballet teacher really wants to them in bare feet. Does it matter? I can't remember what we did last time!

I’ve known kids get in with bare feet if your teacher would prefer that. I don’t think it matters.

Yes I can’t get hold of anyone, just a waiting game I think x

Hi, I’ve been told the whole summer intensive team are off until Monday, then they’ll be dealing with all the emails on Monday .

It seems that many I have seen that got through had professional photos done. Does that make a difference?

We’ve never had professional shots and my daughter has been successful twice. But we have had our teacher to help and she won’t stop until she gets the perfect shot.

    Hi there,

Can I ask how many children are in one group?

Do they send a list of what you MUST put in the child's luggage?

If your child sleeps there - is it still possible to see her in any way during the week, or you put her in on a Monday and see her next time on Saturday?

Were there many girls from other countries? Anybody who spoke only a little bit of English?

That's the case of my daughter - we didn't imagine a positive answer at all and financial boundaries were/are also huge to be able to afford the journey and my staying in London... So it was more like let's try to get in and if a miracle happens then we are happy with the result but can't accept it anyway so the victory itself is the YES to the application... but now, we see it differently and try to finance the whole journey. She has to enroll to an intensive English course now here in Budapest but we have so little time left. She never went to a school trip or anything without us so far, and now she has to be alone for 5-6 days without a common language... I am really scared but at the same time, want to fulfil her dream at any cost :)

I’ve sent you a private message

My daughter has started asking soooo many questions so I thought I’d ask as they come so not to overload the chat. Those parents that have had children at SI before might be able to help!

do they need a mobile phone?

if so, how is that regulated?

Dorms: how many per room? If the children know someone who is also boarding can you request for them to share a room?

how many leotards should they bring?

do they arrive on Sunday eve? Or is registration on Monday?

Is there a performance/demonstration for parents at the end of the week?

What sort of things do they do in their “free” time?

other than deers, are there any other animals that roam in Richmond park to observe? (Random one!)

Hi, congrats on your daughter getting a place. my daughter did it last year and had the best time of her life.

she took way too many leotards and skirts, I think 1 for each day is plenty, but I did make the mistake of not sending her with more non dance clothes as they all want to change in their free time.

I was apprehensive about the mobile phone thing but ALL the kids had one and actually it was a good idea. My daughter FaceTimed me regularly, sent me loads of pictures and I felt more secure knowing she was happy. I believe all phones were taken away before bed.

I do know someone who emailed in advanced asking for their child to be in a bed next to their friend , so I’ll be doing that this year. Also a child moved beds a couple of days in, so nothings set in stone, they obviously want happy kids.

I think registration is Monday but I haven’t checked.
there’s a demonstration on the last day for parents. Last year though only one parent was allowed in to watch, hopefully this year as it’s not covid, it’ll be 2.

there are evening activities but also the kids just hung out and amused themselves.

    2021 Closing date March 3rd

    Results March 18th

The year before this results were out in January , so it’s anyone’s guess ?
last year though I do not remember the website stating they’d try to get results out in 4 weeks.
