  1. Just an update for anyone who may find themselves in the same situation. Dropbox link to videos was fine. And I m to expect result the day after the audition.
  2. Thanks All Sent via Dropbox link so hopefully Miss Lewis will let me know if thats not an ok route. Dd in white festival tutu and standard black ballet uniform for exercises.
  3. Thanks thats really helpful. Can you remember, When you got told had got a place?
  4. Thanks legseleven. I searched online for dvd entry and found nothing so any suggestions are most welcome. Dd hasnt done this audition before so its so hard to know what to send.
  5. Hi My dd was due to attend Buxton audition this week. Unfortunately this now clashes with something unavoidable and so cant attend. I emailed to inform them and Miss Lewis has just replied saying I can send in a DVD for assessment! Anyone else done this before? Any recommendations on what to send? DD could send her ballet solo from festivals which obviously shows her ability to perform or do I send polished grade 5 exercises??
  6. Could you make an anonymous complaint? Either via letter with response in writing required to a relatives address? Or create an email address in a pseudonym ( as far as any legalities are concerned, I am sure you could justify your anonymity) I m of the view that there are probably other parents of dya there suffering in silence and at the end of the day, this is how abusive or inappropriate practice continues and becomes socially acceptable within the school. Are they regulated/inspected or draw funding from anywhere - this could be a route to raise concerns. Favourite or not they are accountable for the standard of education delivered.
  7. Reading these makes me feel so sad and partially regretting ever igniting my dd passion.. Does the danceworld not have an over riding authority body like other professions where standards have to be upheld? Maybe they should? I know I would have had enough to report my dd last teacher with and reading here I would certainly class some actions as abuse. I wish all dc who have these experiences the best of luck in whatever path they choose x
  8. Oh dear crystaltips. I m sorry my only words of wisdom are to trust your gut instincts... My dd is only 10 but I ve had to steer some difficult decisions to leave a school she thought she loved but a teacher who was week in week out destroying her confidence and self esteem. Is your yda due to finish in July for this year? Have you looked at options to transfer anywhere else? I imagine your yda is looking at the situation with rose tinted glasses as the love for the arts blurs things but it sounds like it may not be the best place - apart from anything else the risk of injury dancing in unlit studios and unable to prepare for next lessons due to timetabling. I hope someone else can offer you more help...
  9. Hi hazel My dd has done modern jazz, lyrical and contemporary from age 7-8. As far as I understand - Modern jazz: about lines and often sharper movements Lyrical - emotional based fluid movements with contractions and extensions though doesnt have to be girly and floaty Contemporary - more free in moves interprets music
  10. My Dd had vocational offers funded but she decided on performing arts day secondary school (830-430 16 hrs is performing arts) and to top up with grades classes/Associates where needed or flex attend with permission from school as in some areas she is advanced in comparison for age and her private teacher will be able to use time more effectively. We also felt 11 was too young to board and keeping options open and getting back to just enjoying dance and lots of experiences/opportunities was the best way after leaving a difficult dance school last year. I think as parents we have to trust our instincts.

For reference: my dd measurements are chest 26, waist 23, hips 26, girth 46 Elmhurst and Wear moi fit in width but getting snug in length. Sansha Lace and So Danca Mesh fit in width with plenty stretch available but bit too long in body - I imagine if bit wider this wouldnt be an issue Mirella is widest too wide for Dd and slightly too long. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dz4120h3dp96clz/AACI253S4PgtMkZJLue5_uoXa?dl=0
  13. The Lowry do some open classes in contemporary
  14. Hi. I think it ll depend on which make. My dd (11 nearly) has width measurements of a 7-8 yr old but we need longer in body. I tend to go to the actual dance shop and take a leotard that fits well to compare actual size against other. Even same brands can vary
  15. Oh thats good at least they re going to honour it.

  18. Hi These are the professional tap shoes Wooden stacked heel and sole.
  19. So Danca t805 - the tap shoes with the heart on are on amazon UK size 2 reduced from 125 to 37!
  20. Hi Do you mean what pointe shoes? As your teacher has said you are around a year off needing pointe shoes I d continue with building strength. I m not a professional but your releve in second looks like your ankles are pushing out - might be the angle of the camera. I wouldnt worry about shank or shape of shoes its best practice to go to a reputable pointe shoe fitting for your first Pointe Shoes anyway and they will ensure the correct shape and shank is given to you through assessing your feet and trying on lots of shoes.
  21. Same here. Dd is in grade 5 class ( will take that exam in two months)
  22. Also linked in which I m seeing more often are lots of hip placement issues - I m not trained but I m sure someone who is will help - keeping alignment AND correct placement of hips not lifting or opening when doing certain moves.
  23. So pleased surgery went well and I hope the road to recovery goes well. A truly awful situation you were in and a lesson for all dc to appreciate every day as a dancer as we never know whats around the corner. Dont forget mums need rest too and some emotional tlc x
  24. 100% agree and unfortunately my dd experienced this too. Some teachers are in it for their own interests at any cost. Yet those parents who are blind sighted are easily turned against us caring persons who value our dc mental health and well being over a subjective opinion of success.
