Lovely photos. A wonderful evening on 17th - so glad that a little snow did not put off the faithful. The Suit was great - I was hoping the ending would be different but you could see it would be bad! Barbican Theatre is such a lovely venue. Ballet Black on good form, as ever.

I attended the performance last night (i got a discounted ticket from londontheatredirect - £35 tkt for £21) and enjoyed most of the first act which seemed a little long - I wasn't blown away by Satori but thought it was better than "walking in the sand" at Sadlers. However, today I was lucky enough to attend (by the kindness of Bluebird on this forum who could not use her ticket) and thoroughly enjoyed the performances - I agree with ENBlover, that Satori is better on second viewing). As far as snobbery goes, we all have our likes and dislikes, and even prejudices - for me snobbery is that sneering tone where the "snob" thinks their opinion is the best and anyone who disagrees is "less than" and this can absolutely happen in any genre. I learn more from reading the posts on this forum and enjoying the disagreements and not disrepecting anyone, and long may it continue. Best wishes to all for Christmas and New Year.

I havent been to the cinema in ages - the last time it was at Vue and that was because there was a really cheap offer with my Nectar card! It can be my new thing for 2018.

Great - just bought the deal - £36 for one year which includes 4 free tickets per year - although the tickets can't be used for "premium price events" so no doubt ballet will be one of those! Good deal any how. Thanks again.

After reading this review https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2017/jul/27/girl-from-the-north-country-review-bob-dylan-conor-mcpherson I looked at the Old Vics website to buy a £21 ticket . As ever left it for a day or two, and received an offer email from Timeout selling tickets for £15 - tickets allocated on arrival. I went to the Saturday matinee a couple of weeks ago and was allocated a £67.50 seat, row T in the stalls. Old Vic is quite small so sitting anywhere would be OK. It was a great performance - I must say the singers had outstanding voices - the woman who plays the mother with dementia was particularly surprising based on her tiny statue and the woman who played the pregnant girl was really touching. In mid June I attended the Natalia Kremen Ballet Foundation Gala at Cadogan Hall - I was sitting in row A of the side gallery - there were plenty of empty spaces so people moved around - 2 Russian women sittng behind me spoke to each other constantly for about 20 minutes - when the applause was loud enough I turned to them and asked "are you going to speak throughout the whole performance? I added "out of respect for the dancers! Luckily after the interval they found somewhere else to sit. I don't know whether this is a cultural difference - but I don't think so - when the Bolshoi were here last year there were lots of Russians in the audience and they managed to keep quiet duirng the performance. On another occasion a few years back I was sitting on a bench seat in the Stalls Circle next to a man and woman who chatted a bit to me in the interval, as the lights went down they were still chatting to each other, a person in front of them turned around and told them to shussh (which was like a red rag to a bull) - the man told them that he did not need any one to tell me to fxxxing shussh - he was so loud that a member of the orchestra, a big chap, looked over furiously. I felt so embarassed I just hoped that people would not assume I was friends with him! At the end of the performance I heard the dreadful man say to his companion that some people are so rude!!!! Talk about lack of self perception!

Mary - am so pleased that you are considering breaking your vow, and it couldn't be for a more worthy cause. It is true that the Barbican is all the things you state.... and it is also a big free space where one can sit and spend time, great toilets on the mezzanine level, fab library on level 2 with lots of mags to read whether or not you are a member. In the past I even managed to get into the conservatory on a weekday with 3 friends and sampled the delights of the lovely plants, little bridge and some coy carp - but don't tell anyone. Ballet Black are touring at Winchester, Worthing, B'ham, Ipswich, Salisbury and Notts as well as London. The theatre is a bit of a gem - so do come - I've got tickets for Thurs 2 March and will probably book for another day as well. I saw Les Enfants Terrible recently I did not spot any beer swilling people, at least not in the audience.

I know what you both mean about the Barbican - luckily I used to work nearby so can find my way around a bit and I would suggest forget about the walkways that does take some navigation. The entrance on Silk Street is the easiest way in and BB will be in the main theatre - there are always seem to be "greeters" to direct you to the right place. From South London you could do the bus or tube to Moorgate, then walk up Chiswell Street and left on to Silk Street - see if you can find a friend to come with you - such a pity to miss BB and Cassa last night was really appealing for support - which in part made me post on the forum today. At the Q&A after the rehearsal one of the junior dancers (who plays the wolf) told us of his background from a Cape Town Township - he got into dance via his brother - (I can't remember all the details) - at the end of his story - it also came out that his brother dances in the Canadian Ballet (if that is the correct company) - amazing.

Just wanted to post that I was lucky enough to attend a rehearsal of Ballet Black at the Barbican yesterday evening - they will be performing at the Barbican from 2 - 4 March and they are really worth seeing - only 8 dancers in all. I really enjoyed seeing them last night and last year - the new piece is around the Little Red Riding Hood story except the wolf is a lady killer. Such a small company making dance more diverse and taking this to young people - great role models and great dancers.
