  1. I have to say that I really enjoyed Men in Motion on Sunday evening - on a cold dark evening I was almost opting out!

As others have mentioned US (Ball/Sissens) was beautiful, Ed Watson (as I had never seen him before), and 2x Vadim, 2x Jose (from Ballet Black) and.. and.. (yes I should have got a programme - but this did increase my excitement in not knowing what was coming next).

I have to agree with Nina99 - Affi, by Matteo Maccini was a bit too long, although the expression of his work, accompanied by the tracks from Johnny Cash, made me appreciate what one man one body can do.

I sat in the first circle back row and was able to move to Row D for the second act - along with lots of others - which added to the great atmosphere.

I do think that these types of events attract a more varied crowd and if one of the objectives is to take ballet to a wider audience from what I could see, this event certainly achieved that objective.   One downer is that the event overran it finished around 10.20/10.30pm and not 9.30pm which could be a deal breaker for some.

So my only decision now is whether I will attend the BALLET ICONS GALA 2023 on 19 Feb 23 - check diary book ticket!

  2. One of the most moving moments for me was Osipova's performance - that piece seemed exactly right for the occasion and when she'd finished there seemed to be almost a slight hush/"ah" moment and then response from the audience of such loving applause (which is the only way I can think to describe it).

Of course if applause was measured in decibels Nunez performance would win hands down.   But last night, every performance, dancers, singers, musicians and all the background staff were winners.

Up in the balcony, we had a the most enthusiastic of supporters, a man showing his appreciation by shouting really loudly - if you were there you'd have heard him.   At first I thought "Really?" and then I had to smile - all kinds of people come to worship greatness and last night we had a fair amount of that.

  3.

Great to read that the gala is sold out.

I managed to get a ticket after failing to get very far on the website.   On Friday early evening I waited in the Q for 30mins only for the operator to answer, my mobile to malfunction and the call to cut off.   I started a new call this time only waiting for approx 15 mins.   Given the reason for the Gala it is a small inconvenience for us who are in the lucky position to be able to buy tickets.    Looking forward to what will no doubt be a very emotional occasion.

  4. I agree it is a bit hit and miss, sometimes I walk straight in, other times I offer my handbag and they are not interested.   Its a bit like that at Sadlers Wells too.   I guess a random "look" is better than not bothering at all.   However, I would not like the airport security style  as mentioned above - too much but I understand why some places insist.

  5. Just tried it and it did work

So you are at the "Buy tickets for Mixed Programme",

At "Promotional Code", insert "BRBCREATIVE15", then press apply, then choose your seat or even best available seat and a list comes up with and you will see the ordinary price, and then £15 offer.

Try again, if it does not work send me a pm with  your email address and I can send a screenshot - there seem to be lots of tickets left so would be good if more people could attend.

    Good luck.

  6. I was there on Friday (managed to get last minute tikt) - yes it was surprising when the stage manager (I guess) announced that there had been an injury and that a replacement was dashing to Sadlers -- he explained that there was a part where 2 men were undressing another man, and that it should have been 3 men , he also said that it was press night and hoped everyone would be OK while there was a short break.   The atmosphere was really good and some people took the opportunity to have a quick trip to the bar etc.

It was so interesting to see R&J set so differently although I did miss the family vs family - it was more the institutionalised vs the institution - opitimised by a major baddie character.  Great to leave the theatre to Bad Romance by Lady Gaga - witty I thought.

  7. I received an email highlighting the studio rehearsals, and foolishly only booked one which was today with Nunez and Soares (as mentioned above) and I could not have been happier.  I was on the balcony, £8 of any one's money (pre-Brexit, post-Brexit I'll turn up!).   I would say that some of the acoustics or audio mics needed a little improvement or perhaps I need to see a specialist.
