  1. Yes we probably have richieN. My dd was only booked in for the Monday as she hasn't danced for so long before and only being 7 i wasn't sure how she would find it but she loved it and wanted to go back today. I am working away now till Thursday so my husband took her but had to ask them to do her bun, he can only manage a ponytail lol! Hoping she enjoyed today as much but i haven't spoke to her. If you look for the smallest one that will be her, she is very petite.
  2. I am horrified that anyone would think this is an acceptable way of teaching and bragging about it too. What age are these students? My 7 year old would be in tears and probably me too!
  3. What a horrible experience for your dd. I would be so upset too x
  4. Thank you. Heard lots of great things about it so hopefully my dd will think so too!
  5. Yes my dd coach in gymnastics asked her if she did ballet as she was impressed with her dancing in the floor routine. She won a gold medal in her comp so definately improves the performance.
  6. How old is your daughter richieN? We will probably see you there on the Monday.
  7. Sascis my dd has a very small frame too and is showing potential in gymnastics. She is in the squad and is doing well in competitions. From what i've heard i don't think gymnastics is good for the posture required in ballet. My dd ballet teacher has already told her that she will have to choose between gymnastics and ballet but at 7 she is loving both and doesn't want to.
  8. Yes thank you. I need to have a proper chat with her. My dd will be going to the summer school at Centre Pointe so will she how she gets on. I did mention to her current teacher a few months ago that dd wanted extra ballet and she said we will sort something out. She has said that a few times. Since then i have tried to speak to her but she is always busy or rushing off. I think i will have to text her. They don't have a website with email address.
  9. What a dreadfull experience for you swanprincess. Thanks for the warning to anyone thinking about summer school's abroad x
  10. Thanks sarahw, just read through previous thread above and sounds great. But, thats what i'm afraid of if we have to choose i know my dd will want to stay put as she loves her current teacher.
  11. Thanks Janet, will have a read through
  12. Does anyone have any experience of this dance school? My dd age 7 attends a small local dance school which she loves but they only have 1 class for her grade and she is asking to do more. I am hoping that she can do her regular class and an extra class at Centre Pointe if her current dance teacher allows.
  13. Sascis my dd started ballet in January. She was 6 then and is having so much fun and made lots of friends. She was doing a weekday class after school for primary ballet and did get tired( she also does 4 hrs of gymnastics after school on other nights) but now is doing grade 1 on a weekend and definately a better option for her.
  14. richieN does your dd go to regular ballet classes at Centre Pointe? I am thinking about classes there for my dd from September if her current dance teacher allows it as there is only 1 class a week for her level at her current school and she is asking to do more ballet. My dd will just be doing the Monday at the moment at the summer school to see how she gets on as she is just 7 and not danced for so many hours before.
  15. Sounds like she had a wonderful experience. I know what you mean about a new excitedness, my dd recently attended a ballet workshop which was completely different to anything she has done before and was so full of it for the rest of the week. Good luck to your dd x
  16. Pictures , you may have noticed my dd, she was the smallest one there and looked about 5!
  17. She really did LovetoDance2003 thank you, she has not stopped talking about it since we left. She told me all about the ballet Giselle and what the story was about and youtubed it when we got home, dancing away to it. She now wants to see the ballet! Nicky was lovely and I really enjoyed watching all the girls dance at the end. It was completely different to what she has done before at her regular class. We are hoping to go again to her monthly sessions. Was your dd at the junior session or the senior session? Glad she enjoyed it too.
  18. Thank you LovetoDance2003 for sharing this workshop. I have just registered my dd for the junior session and she is very excited as it will be her first one.
  19. Thank you stardancer, her summer school sounded perfect. She sent me a message but Yorkshire is too far to go daily and she is too young for residential.
  20. Believe me I have tried Sarahw as has her dance teacher to encourage her to give it a try but she is one strong willed girl and says she just wants to do ballet. I know in time she will but it will be when she thinks it is her choice and not mine! Have any other dc just stuck to ballet? I don't think it matters for now I just let her do what she enjoys but it does narrow down options.
  21. Thanks so much everyone, a few more options to consider. I will have a look at the ones mentioned later. Never thought to ask if other 8 year olds are doing the summer school at Centrepointe so will ask the question. I can understand the 8 year old rule regarding concentration and focus. She has not done such a long day dancing before so something to consider although she does have lots of stamina and energy! Flowerdew is your summer school just ballet? I only ask because my dd will only do ballet at the moment. I am still trying to convince her otherwise. That is the problem I have found, just ballet seems to be for older children.
  22. Does anyone know of any summer school for under 8's around the North West or East Cheshire. I have had a look online and from what I've seen you have to be 8 or above. There are some that do musical theatre etc but not just ballet which is what my dd wants. Centrepointe which isn't too far from me have a summer school from age 8 and have said she can attend but I don't know if this would be a good idea as she is only just 7 and very petite and looks about 5! I wouldn't want her to feel out of place. Has anyone any experience of this summer school? Thanks.
  23. Thanks for your comments and thoughts, I've had a good read around the site now and learnt a lot! I realize we are at the beginning of a very long journey and will just go with the flow hoping she continues to love dance and be thankful in having a fantastic teacher who gives my dd lots of support and great teaching.
  24. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and to the world of ballet. My dd is just 7 and started ballet in January. Her teacher keeps telling me that she has not had a student for years and years showing as much potential. One of the other dance mums was telling me about RBS associates scheme and that I should consider it for next year. Another mum then said but ... ( my dd ) has the wrong body type for RBS. What do you think she means? My dd is very petite, do you think she thinks she is too small? She also said you can't tell if someone has potential at her age as real ballet doesn't start until around age 8/10 and she is just doing movements at this stage. She is doing primary and grade 1 at the same time taking her first exam in June. I know it is just for fun at this age and if I asked her she would say she prefers gymnastics over ballet so is not that serious about it yet but would just like your opinions. Thanks in advance
