  1. BlueLou I agree with you about Ballet West. I happened to be in the UK when the finalists were on TV and I agree the lovely young female participant was gorgeous . A real credit to herself and her school. It just goes to show that where ever you are if you work hard you will do well. Its always better if you have the support of your family and friends behind you and I am sure that is usually the key to success but in this case the lovely dancer had left her family a long way away. In addition to that I thought all the dancers were lovely in particular the Elmhurst participants .
  2. Angel sad to hear that your boy got moved .Lets hope he moved on to great things after you gave him the opportunities to perform and maybe he took those opportunities some where even more interesting. I was quite amazed when my Foster daughter, now my daughter wanted to audition for Upper School . I gave her the opportunities to dance but did not expect any thing to materialize despite the fact that she really did have a great body to dance. Upper School auditions are a tough time . I thought my daughter was an absolute star last year (and she is )but probably just quite average really in the whole scheme of things.Never the less she is really well settled into an Upper School now and thriving and embracing all that the school has to offer. If she does not get injured she will probably have the chance to do better than I did .
  3. I have full sympathy reading the posts about over seas students filing places in UK schools. As there are so few schools I agree that this is not satisfactory. I am afraid that when I came to London from over sea 's a long time ago to train I was so exited and happy and I did not think about this. Last year when my daughter was auditioning I felt the same as you.My daughter was a British girl and I felt she should stay in the UK to train. Only then did I think about myself taking the place of a UK resident girl in a most prestigious school. Maybe British schools should take only British/ UK residents into the schools ? I now live in USA I was so lucky to adopt my Foster daughter and I am so proud that she is making a good progress in her ballet even though she started to dance at 12 yrs of age , when she came to live with me .
  4. I feel for all of you auditioning at the moment I pick up so much tension from the posts . I myself was fortunate to get to the RBS many years ago . I came from overseas and sadly at the end of my training sustained an injury that made it impossible to dance again. I have been fortunate in having had a great career in a new field and do not really look back too often.I did in the past teach ballet for a few years. I was a foster mother to a child who started ballet quite late in her life and last year was auditioning for schools so I experienced the whole audition experience on a completely different level to how it seemed when I myself was auditioning. I found myself getting anxious , joined the forum and probably got even more anxious ! I am so happy to say that my foster daughter achieved finals in prestigious schools in the UK and in the end opted to further her career overseas where she has been doing so well and has found her niche. It is important to remember that each student will find the right place for themselves to go forward in their training. If they have some talent , work hard , stay in focus they will succeed regardless of which school they go to. My advice is to stay cool .
  5. Mary Muscle I completely agree with you !
  6. Last year the approx 30 girls inc Senior associates and girls from the UK and many other countries from around the world, too many to mention . I think only 3 girls were SA s . In the afternoon the WL girls joined the audition, so probably approx 45 girls in the audition. There were less boys as far as I can remember
  7. Last year 30 girls from around the world plus girls from WL as far as I could see !
  8. Flora and Mnemo you have summed up entire thoughts in the journey of being the mother of an aspiring dancer .
  9. Lim, I too sad that Yuhui Choi not promoted this time .
  10. I think it is all so subjective and ..... I guess the wooden dancing taken in by lower years eventually gets accessed out .From what I have seen at Audition ........ the mind boggles to what gets through ! Which goes back to being so so subjective . I think the best thing is for us parents to get a life ! far away from the dancing world !
  11. I am a new member and new to this just wondered if any of you know how many get to the finals of RBS Upper school, ENB and Elmhurst ?
