  1. As a miffy lover myself, I just wanted to point out that she's Dutch...not Japanese! (Although she's also very popular in Japan apparently)
  2. London ballet company summer school starts on the 22nd....I'm considering doing this one myself although I have no experience and it seems fairly unheard of. Anyone have any feedback/knowledge?
  3. I have separate Instagrams, I'm 14, I haven't told/followed anyone from school. My best friends know I've got a ballet Instagram but if they ask what it is I generally just don't tell them!
  4. http://www.rambert.org.uk/join-in/adults/ Pictures like the one displayed in this link made me wonder! But thanks for clearing it up
  5. I have to do this with every camisole leotard! I generally tie knots in my camisole leotards, I only sew them for exams or such like as I've had stitches rip when stretch my back or thing like that. I find it odd that at 5'11 I have the problem of something being to long though!
  6. I know this is a slightly off topic question, but what do people generally wear in the open classes? Their website just says no dress code but I'm a bit scared of being the only one rocking up in a leotard..! I'm thinking maybe a leotard with tights and shorts over or just leggings over a leotard?
  7. Thanks! Will probably steer away more towards something ballet focused with pointework then.
  8. What's the regular summer school like, how much ballet and pointe is there? Summer stages doesn't list a range of styles and classes, does anyone know if it's ballet only?
  9. If you go to London often it's worth getting a zip card for a teen, it's basically a teen oyster, but you get free travel on buses and cheaper tube/overground fares. However if you were to apply for one it won't arrive before next weekend, please don't buy an oyster for a teen, not even for yourself if u have contactless the card is £5 and then you'll have to top it up for each tube journey (approximately £2, it'll be capped at £7 and won't charge more than that no matter how far u go) it's only worth it if you're in londtoften daily unlimited travel cards are around £7.
  10. Battersea/Oxford/Reagents street/Camden aren't particularly close to each other, u could certainly make it to all in one day but probably couldn't spend much time in each place, Oxford street is good and of course Covent Garden and Drury lane are a fairly short walk away. You can use a contactless debit card on TFL and you could buy a days travel card for teens. Oysters would be cheaper if u plan on returning to London in the future often, you can buy them from newsagents for £5 and top them up at the same shop, no point in buying one if you have A contactless card as the fares are the same price, individual tickets are more. Can't help to much with directions though, sorry!
  11. Yes I looked into Tring, my mum said it would be too far as next year's GCSE year. But the short courses look good. Is the summer course good if I only want to focus on ballet?
  12. Just looked at central, I probably will audition. The associates their seem to have the most dense associate schedule I've ever seen. But it's close enough to me, as I'm in London. I'd probably have to drop grades though if I ever became an associate as the majority of my syllabus classes are on Saturday... Also going to audition for LSB/LJB as that's much closer and I think on Sunday's. Thank you for opinions! And I'm sorry for butting in on someone else's thread!
  13. I'm year 10. I'm 14 turning 15 this month, I'm currently studying grade 6 and intermediate, expected to take intermediate in the summer and grade 6 in Autumn, after intermediate we do adv foundation instead of adv 1. Will this hold me back? I'm currently taking 4 hours a week of non-syllabus(1 of those is pointe), 1 hour of grade 6 and 2 hours intermediate. I also will be doing a Easter and summer school this year. Am I average in terms of grades for my age? I think I may be a bit behind....however at summer schools I've never felt like I was particularly behind in terms of ability only grade. Will I be able to get into vocational school studying grade 7 and advanced foundation? (I have my heart set on Central!!)
  14. I had this pretty badly aged 11. The pain wasn't caused by level of activity, but the pain did occasionally mean I had to limit level of activity. My friend had it even worse..there was talk of surgery for her. I wouldn't advise to much rest unless you know the sports/exercise is causing it, for me it gradually went away with age. I wore a knee support, my friend used kt/kinesiology tape which was given to her by the physio, it's better than a compression support and available on Amazon.
  15. Arts ed is good, but brother did a club there and it very good, although the summer musical theatre school is 2 weeks long and non-residential. Tring park also run one.
  16. Oh yes that video has travelled very far across the Internet, I saw it on Instagram originally...I'd be interested if anyone know the dancers in this?
  17. Bloch has changed their bags. I think the old brown ones were much nicer. The new ones are smaller, canvas (think inside of pointe shoes type) and it say things like, 'pointe' 'hip hop' 'jazz' 'ballet' 'jazz' 'tap' 'character' in all different fonts and then at the bottom 'I ♥ bloch'. I don't think capezio does bags, I once bought a bra tek and I got a silver plastic carrier bag.
  18. On the website the details are for last year, is there an application of some sort or is it first come, first served?
  19. Thanks picturesinthefirelight, you posted within 5 minutes of my question being asked!
  20. Just wondering (not that it really matters!), do OPES have a uniform/dress code?
  21. I know this is slightly off topic but has anyone heard of the 'Amsterdam dance centre' they appear to run drop in classes but are these adult only drop in?
  22. I have to point out that Bloch ribbon is absolutely beautiful, perfectly matches pointe shoes and is always the right length with some left over, I sometimes recycle the ribbon from dead shoes to get my money's worth, and my teacher sells the Bloch ribbon for £2!
  23. Dancia sells a brand called tendu, you have to be quite specific when you ask at the till otherwise they'll try and sell their (not as good, more expensive) own brand tights. But I currently have 4 pairs of unripped tights which are all tendu, the oldest ones have lasted about 1.5 years!!
  24. How do they select places? I can see the form asks for recent exam details but my exam results was much worse than others I've gotten and I'm a bit worried if I put that down I don't stand a particularly high chance, does anyone know?
