  1. Yay my daughter got her letter today for the finals audition. Hope everyone else hears good news too. Xx
  2. Hi all my dc also had the audition on Sunday..... I hope everyone does well..... fingers crossed and good luck to all. xx
  3. Hi ballet mum. My daughter currently does the Urdang Youth Academy and loves it. So totally recommended. Just ask if there are any specifics you need. X
  4. Sooooo pleased it helped! Anytime - just shout xx
  5. That's really great news dancing10 - good luck to her.
  6. That's great to hear! Unfortunately this definitely didn't happen with any of the children on my DC's audition (or both of my friend's children) as there just wasn't any time but that's good to hear this happened for your friend as a personal touch does make the children feel valued.
  7. I thank you for your opinion Harwel. You clearly speak with a lot of knowledge and conviction about the teachers, how they communicate and whether the solo has any impact, so I gather from this you know the institution and the teachers very well! However what you do not know is my dc and whether this would or would not be the right school. I value your opinion but I don't agree with it. Thankfully my dc has not experienced this at any other audition so this behaviour is clearly in the minority at dance institutions - phew!. What I would say to all the other parents going through this my dc has now received 4 offers so far, so if your dc does have a negative feeling in an audition hopefully there is something that will lift their spirits just around the corner. My dc's first choice at this minute is Rambert but who knows what tomorrow's post will bring. Exciting times for all and I wish everyone good luck!
  8. Interesting points of view here to read. I feel that yes I am sure they have a very good idea of the technical excellence from the ballet and jazz classes. My DC did enjoy the teachers of these classes and the actual class. However if 1 person is going to judge a 1 minute solo they should have the decency to watch it. As mentioned previously this is a solo that has had lots of thought and time put into it (maybe money also) and children of 15/16 are keen to show themselves off to their best ability and this solo is their chance to shine in a sea of faces. When they don't get that opportunity this can lead to an obvious negative feeling. If you don't get a place then c'est la vie but at least you would feel you've been given a fair and valued audition otherwise don't get them to do a solo in the first place. If the Head of Dance must write during, then a scribe would be a good idea like at dance festivals. My dc didn't feel the other teachers had much influence really as they weren't taking notes, often teaching the class or playing the music- the children didn't have numbers so in terms of reporting back after the class this would have been incredibly difficult....but that maybe just my dc's impression. It's very sad as my dc has done quite a few auditions recently but regretfully came out of Tring incredibly deflated and a little frustrated. She has had really positive experiences in all her others and actually enjoyed the experience and learnt something each time. I agree most of my dc auditions have been filmed! Great idea especially with so many! I believe this isn't how it should be (or is) at dance auditions/high profile dance establishments for children (remembering they are children and are looking for training not a job) as Dc has been to some of the best in the country and felt completely differently. I'm sure it's not going to change but what a pity because everything else is just sublime.
  9. no problem... good luck to yours too. x
  10. Tell her not to worry at all about her solo! My dc did a lyrical contemporary solo but anything goes. I would advise her to do a genre she feels the most confident doing. The Head of Dance sees a lot of ballet so if she feels confident with contemporary go for it. They don't do any pointe work in the audition so if she's strong and confident, go for that. Tbh my dc and friends were very disappointed with this part of the audition as the Head of dance did't even watch them, she wrote the whole time and looked up at the end. Hopefully that won't happen for you but my dc and friends felt the Head of Dance had made her mind up in the initial lessons prior to the solo and the solos weren't really valued. However hopefully your dd may have a different experience.
  11. No problem dancing10, yes that's right the auditions were held in the new studios. They said about 3 weeks..... a long time in comparison to her other auditions. x
  12. Well this year you either had morning or afternoon slot. It was the shortest of dc auditions. It began with a talk from the Head, Deputy, Head of Dance and Head of Academic studies, this lasted about 10/15mins. Then 2 students talk us on a 45min tour - the students were lovely! Then the parents left so from this point it is from the perspective of my her dc and her other dancing friends. The first thing was about an hour long ballet lesson, followed by the jazz/commercial class (which was half the time of the ballet lesson). Then they went in 1 at a time to do their solo. After that the academic test on computers. However we were all assured that this wouldn't effect the result of the audition. My dc said it was quite a 'common sense' test, when she described it it sounded like a cognitive test... but I'm not sure.... and that's it. Quite short. I think if your dc wants to they have the opportunity to play an instrument or sing. Ask if you need to know anything else. Hope that helps. x
  13. Hi all My dc has had a few auditions recently, so I'm happy to give any advice as I know it is such an unpredictable time for all. Sadly she really didn't have a very nice experience at her Tring audition which we were really upset about - such as shame as this was her favourite but we're not very hopeful for the result. However I am very happy to give balanced advice on what the audition entails....On the plus side she has had an offer from Rambert.
  14. Has anyone out there heard about Tring MT results yet for sixth form? X
