    Gcse dance?

My daughter opted NOT to take it. She danced a lot outside of school and before starting GCSEs had taken grade 6 or above in 4 dance styles. Her main reason not to do it was because so much of it at her school had a contemporary focus and she doesn't like that. However, on discussion the teacher did feel it would in a way be a bit pointless for her unless she had a particular desire to just do more dance. So I would say it comes down to whether she is really interested in doing it and also whether it stops her taking something else she really wants to do. If she is struggling to think of another option to do then take it, if she is choosing between that and something else she is interested in then I would probably advise the something else as she is already doing other dancing.
  2. You might find this interesting. So the basic shape is the same but maybe you could get a special order done on a 2007 or nova pro to address your specific requirements. My daughter found the 2007 were harder than the nova pro which from my point of view was great as it meant they lasted longer (she kills shoes quickly) but she prefers the glue in the nova pro. It sounds like the 3007 is somewhere between the two.
  3. Oh that is really strange. We were definitely led to believe they were virtually the same. Just a slight change in the heel I thought was mentioned.
  4. My daughter tried a pair of these on earlier this year and she seemed under the impression they were effectively the 2007. She said she couldn't feel a difference in them. Her preferred shoes seems to vary between 2007 and nova pro. I suspects she really wants a 2007 pro with longer wings if such a thing exists. So maybe try 2007 and nova pro if you haven't already?
  5. Thank you. Will get her to focus on this and see if that helps.
  6. Well I think they think the problem is that she can't stop the turn so falls back but she says it isn't that. She probably hasn't told them!
  7. Thank you both. It is my daughter not me. Sorry I was typing in a a hurry and only just realised I hadn't said that. This is what I was thinking (having no dance background myself), that it must be linked to catching the barre and maybe doing it too sharply and therefore disturbing her balance. I will get her to practice in our house so I can video it and maybe then she can see what she is doing wrong. Hadn't thought about distance from the barre. Will get her to look at that too. Thank you. Her exam is in a few weeks and it is the only thing she seems to find difficult, I think she a starting to get a mental block about it too which won't be helpful so if e can break it down and work out what is going wrong then she can work on trying to correct it rather than just "it doesn't work".
  8. ISTD grade 6 barre exercise fouettes. Any ideas please on how not to end up tipping backwards at the end? No problem doing fouettes or pirouettes in the centre and no other balance issues just a problem with these. Any advice or suggestions as to what might be going wrong gratefully received. Thank you
  9. I think I saw somewhere that Bloch, probably Mirella, do an extra long leotard in some styles.
  10. My super skinny daughter is only about 5ft 3 but has to wear medium adult leotards to get long enough body and then I have to take them in.... Her sister was the same but taller so large adult. We find Mirella are slim but long and same with capezio often I can get away with not taking them in.
  11. I have only made 1 tutu and don't intend to make any more! I love decorating them but making them is such hard work and I think what professional tutu makers produce is amazing. Most of my daughters national costume was made from a cheap black sheet.....
  12. Luckily I made it with a 4 inch hem a couple of months before covid started. She has now grown so much I had to let it down and stitch in another 7 rows of ribbon..... But much quicker and cheaper than making a while new one.
  13. Sorry I posted too soon. Yes I made her national costume. I am quite good at sewing but it did take some time and a lot of research.
  14. Ooh will look that up. Thanks Ha. I made her national costume too.
  15. Ooh will look that up. Thanks
  16. Oh this is a lovely memory. I don't think there is any chance in the world of her getting to national finals but it is nice for her to try. What was your national dance?
  17. Thanks. You are right, I think we should see if she can poke her nose in the back of the audience to see the set up when we arrive. I looked up the size of the stage online and it said it was enormous but I have since worked out that I think that included the wings because there was then a smaller measurement for the archway bit. (I think a 16m wide stage sounds extreme?)
  18. Thank you. I have already booked my ticket, put the car park in my Google maps and paid for my reduced rate parking. I am not sure her teacher can go and she hasn't got any team mates so she probably won't want any freedom time but I will suggest it to her and see what she says. In the absence of a teacher I will be her supervising adult so I guess I have to be with her pretty much all the time anyway. Thanks
  19. Thank you. Yes we had hoped to watch one before but she is in the second section of the day so it won't be possible as she won't have time to get into her national costume. I think she will enjoy I, just hope she doesn't get too nervous (and that we don't get stuck in traffic!)
  20. Thank you. Yes I met a couple of very nice mums I am in touch with on social media but none in her section for this. We met them when she used to do a ballet solo. She a happy to chat to people if they are also on their own or only in a pair from their school but sometimes they are in big groups which can be a bit intimidating even if it is unintentional.
  21. Oh I just assumed because of the short timescale there wouldn't be any programmes until the actual start. I am not sure her teachers will be able to go but she normally does festivals on her own as noone else at the school wants to do festivals so we are used to it being just the two of us. Her teachers come when they can to our local one but they often aren't free as they are very busy. We don't mind, it is our choice to do festivals and they are very supportive of her with the dances but I do all the entries etc.
  22. @MissEmilyThank you. I will do.
  23. She does normally talk to people at festivals, just not sure how many will be in her section at this as we won't see a programme until we get there I assume. I suppose there will probably be quite a few as the only one in their section from their school so more opportunities to talk to someone new.
  24. Thank you. It is all a bit daunting. The South region is at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth and it looks like a lovely "proper" theatre. Just hope she doesn't stand on the stage just looking at it! We are expecting the standard to be very high, certainly one of her dances was a surprise qualifier and the other is national so is very much personal choice adjudication wise so for her it is just the experience of getting to dance in a nice theatre and another opportunity to perform her dances again. Just hope people aren't too competitive behind the scenes, it is hard when you are on your own without lots of friends around you from your school.
  25. Sorry if I have missed a recent thread, I did search but didn't find one. We are going to regionals for the first time in a few weeks. Any tips from those who have been before? My daughter is the first (and only) one from her dance school to do it and we don't really know what to expect. She has two dances, start and end of the sane day and she is really looking forward to dancing in a nice theatre. (Our qualifiers are in schools or colleges).
