  1. In my experience it's the prevalent sex stereotyping that stops boys doing ballet. Dd's school have a lunchtime ballet class. There were several boys try to sign up, but their parents wouldn't allow it. Dd is a huge Steven McRae fan and was puzzled- at the time (age 6), she honestly thought ballet was for boys I once had a colleague, with a postgraduate degree in science. We were chatting about our children's hobbies, and talking about dance (she was a dancer/gymnast). Her little girl was doing ballet, modern, tap, as usual. I asked what classes her boy took. She was absolutely horrified "oh no, he does football with his dad". Older dd does gymnastics in a large sports centre. The coaches get very frustrated as the parents drop their dd's off on the way to taking their sons to football. They are desperate for boys, but just can't get them through the door.
  2. I live in london. Just doing my investigations into finding a ballet class. Which is much harder than you'd think!
  3. Very funny alison . Nightmare at the moment, isn't it! Thank you so much for your help, and all the PM's. I have some good starting points, I'll start researching and see if I can find anything that fits
  4. Hi aileen, x posts. I'm along the east london line, so crystal palace, new cross, forest hill, london bridge are all easy, I and can probably get to blackheath, greenwich, beckenham, possibly as far as bromley.
  5. Thanks! I'll check out that link. I did ask the teacher and no luck, she only does schools. I've asked all the parents I know too, but nothing. One friends son did go to Italia conti? I think, but raved on more about all the cute little girls in their outfits... I am fairly clueless, although I know good technique and teaching, I don't know the difference between idta/istd/rad, although I'm fairly sure I did bbo- I can still quote the theory booklets! My mum just took me along to the nearest place and struck gold I think..
  6. HI, Total newbie here, I hope someone can help We live in SE london, and my 6 yo has expressed an interest in doing "proper" ballet. She does a lunchtime class at school, with an RAD teacher, but it's mixed ability and she wants more. My problem is there are so many "dance" and "theatre" style schools around. My older daughter did try a couple, and I did a couple of adult ballet classes, but they seem very stage or general based, and do ballet/tap/jazz combined, or children's run around in a pink outfit style. I wasn't happy with the lack of focus on correct technique- I did enough ballet with an ex Royal ballet teacher to know the importance. So how do I track down a ballet class which will teach good technique and proper progression? I've tried google and the like but there are so many!
