  1. Pretty much everyone rents from Ballet West, there’s only a couple who haven’t plus it’s difficult to find accommodation in such a small village. As @balletbean said there’s 2 chalets and a flat in the main house. Everyone else then stays in/around the village in various houses and flats. Rent is £500/month wherever you stay. it also costs to us the washing machine and dryer!!
  2. the weeks I've been they've not really been needed, they were only worn on the Friday if wanted but totally not a necessity!
  3. it was originally supposed to run from April, however I believe they have changed it to September as there was a larger demand, with like taxi says most people finishing in July!
  4. there's that's entertainment in Liverpool.
  5. dancia currently have a Grishko offer on this week, 10% off all Grishko products and a free 'goody bag' with pointe shoes or soft blocks (ribbon, elastic and suede covers). but yes the regular price is £49.95 at dancia
  6. so danca stretch canvas ballet shoes... they are elasticated at the top so no drawstring and fairly narrow I believe!
  7. I'm doing it, so is my brother!
  8. https://dancer.com/product/cap-sleeve/ this is a link to the leotard on the gaynor minden website and there's a size chart underneath if that helps anyone?
  9. came across a clip of this video today and thought it might be a nice thing to post for anyone who hasn't seen it before. "ballet isn't a modelling business"
  10. hi, I was wondering is the initial audition just a regular ballet class?
  11. I second Thats Entertainment, I go there and they're very helpful and have a wide variety of shoes. it's also easy to get to from central train station!
  12. every day we had ballet, pas de deux, lunch, pas de deux and then jazz/contemporary. so not much that's not ballet! however one of the pas de deux was more contemporary based and then the other was classical
  13. last summer when I did it there was a fair amount of non vocational students and students who were about to start vocational school. I'm sure she would fit in and they are very understanding - I found the solo for the demonstration a bit out of my depth to learn that fast so asked to not do it and they were lovely and basically said everything's optional - it's supposed to be fun and gave me the option to do it on flat hope that helps!
  14. the first time I auditioned I got in from the reserve list and I got a letter with the acceptance pack in. I'm assuming it will still be the same although it was a few years ago! good luck!
  15. the 'fine hair nets' from boots are also good as they're big enough to go round at least twice. just thought I'd mention as they might be easier to get than the bunheads ones.
  16. I know people who have just put gaynors in the washing machine since the plastic won't break down in water. this is probably only for brave people to try!
  17. I've got a leaflet saying anyone aged 16-18 that has left school can get the vaccine from their GP from August. however it's from the Scottish NHS?
  18. I've just got back from opes, it was fab! each day has the same classes (ballet, 2 classes of repertoire or pas de deux and contemporary) that are all 1 hour 30 mins except Friday which has rehearsals for the end of week demonstration
  19. I'd definitely trust Dr Dance more than me
  20. I'm not 100% sure but I think for shin splints it's best to ice it for 10 minutes at a time. make sure you ice it after classes though as you want it to be as warm as possible before and during class to help prevent further injury ! I'd say rest it when possible and as you don't want to take a day or class off maybe just miss out or mark allegro exercises as this is what usually causes most pain for people. also make sure when you're not dancing you wear correct footwear - like trainers, as they give the correct support and stability. also after class stretch out your calf and lower leg muscles and massage your shin using a foam roller/ massage ball/ hands.
  21. mine was vocational but I imagine the grades will come out at a similar time?
  22. at my school we did our exams during the last week of June and got our results back last week
  23. if you have more time now, I see no harm in going for another fitting so she has another pair even if she continues to wear her current pair until they're dead. and yes dancers often have more than one pair of shoes to alternate between to allow the shows time to dry out between classes and rehearsals, I'd say it's usually a more advanced thing to do as there's generally more classes and pointe work involved although anyone could alternate shoes if they wished! hope this sort of helps?!
  24. Cara, it could just be a growth thing, I had a similar thing at one point my right hip would pop when I was in box splits so I stopped doing full out box splits for a while and now it's fine, as nothing came of it I'm thinking it was just down to growth!
