Yes Anna C it was a year 8 place, and as I have said before, we knew the odds were slim before we started out so yes I took the news a little badly at first and I am worried about her doing enough hours but overall I am very happy with how well she has done, especially as she didn't even start taking "proper" ballet classes until 2014, so I am more than happy with the quality of her training and I think securing a place two years running is quite an achievement even without being offered funding in the end. I've always been told that gymnastics isn't a good thing for ballet dancers and if you want to do anything for flexibility then a strengthening class is more beneficial, so thank you for the advice and input Life but I'm not sure I'd be happy for her to do 3 gymnastics classes a week especially when it goes directly against the advice I have always been given. Thanks

So this morning I have woke up and decided I've had my moment of being sad for dd and now it's time to brush off and move forward!! I think a lot of what upset me is the fact that I know my dd doesn't do enough hours compared with her peers and she currently only does ballet too, It doesn't help knowing that currently we are not in a position to increase her hours/take on more classes so I fear that going forward from this years auditions the gap between her and others her age is just going to grow even wider if she just continues at her current rate, and this gave me an overwhelming sense of dread as I know dd wants to audition again next year and I worry that I'll just be setting her up for failure!! So on this note I have decided to have a chat with dd and make sure she fully understands the position she is in and also ask for advice from my fellow forumers as to how many hours you would expect a child to be doing ready for year 9 auditions and whether you think just concentrating on ballet is enough or is she better off splitting her time and going back to practicing other disciplines too? I think I'm just scared about making the wrong decisions for her, with my being soooooo not in the know, and ruining any future chance she may have had!! I'd like to add that I certainly don't compare dd to other dc as I know each child develops at a different rate and has different strengths and weaknesses. Plus you never know someone's story, how long they have been dancing, how many hours they do etc but it would be nice to just have an idea of what others at this age are doing especially those who are keen on vocational training. She is currently in year 7 so next years auditions will be for year 9. Any help and advice would really be appreciated! I would also like to thank everyone who has took the time to pm me, I really can't thank you all enough for rallying round me during my little moment of feeling all doom and gloom, the support system here truly is wonderful and very very much appreciated!! Onward and upward.......
  3. I would just like to say a massive congratulations to your dc, you must be so proud and it is a massive achievement for them!! Thank you for posting and sharing your story, it really does offer hope for the future and I hope you don't mind but I have pm'd you with a question

Thank you for that Drdance, your post helps to put in into perspective! I guess as a parent who knows very little about dancing it can be hard to know and understand how these things work, your professional opinion has helped me to understand the reason for no feedback a little better!! Very Much appreciated

Also has anyone heard back from Hammond with regards to the bursaries?

I totally understand that it would be hard to give out feedback to 40 dc pictures and im sure that even if they did offer us a brief insight into what areas needed improvement we would probably still complain that it wasn't enough info!! I was only talking in an "ideal world" kind of way and saying that it would be nice and a positive thing if they were able to offer some sort of feedback

My dd is very upset too and questioning herself a lot!! But we have always had a rule in our house and it's that your allowed a day to be upset and feel sorry for yourself and work through those emotions but then you brush yourself off, pick yourself up and move forward!! I think she, like me, is wondering how to move forward from this and what area she needs to improve on. That's the only trouble with the no feedback, it leaves it wide open for these youngsters to attack themselves over every little thing it could possibly be!! I think that a little feedback or guidance would be a positive thing especially from finals when there aren't the same numbers as in prelims. My thoughts and virtual hugs are going out to all those with a "not for now" and I wish you all the best for the future, wherever that is and whatever you are doing!! And huge massive congratulations to those with a yes, it's a real achievement and I hope your dc are very happy and successful in their new schools very exciting times ahead for you all (and very nerve wrecking for you dancing moms and dads no doubt!!) I myself am now just looking forward to having a bit of breathing room and not worrying about results for a while lol

Thank you so much Amos, I'm just having a moment, think this man flu I have isn't helping with the taking the news well, I'll be so embarrassed when I'm feeling better that I reacted so badly I think I'll give them a call about the bursary and just see what they say xx

Thank you so much Waitingmum, it just obviously wasn't meant to be unfortunately! I just worry that she is only going to fall even further behind now as she doesn't do the hours that many her age do and we can't really accommodate more classes, so really need to take a long hard look at what to do next and where to go from here!! X

I know exactly whT you mean mumof6, you don't want to see them go but you don't want to see them sad either but then they are always going to get more no's than yeses in this industry so it's practice for many more no's to come lol x

I know people do often get in from a reserve list, I know of someone who got in Elmhurst from the reserve pool. But I just feel that with how late Hammonds audition was that maybe there wouldn't be much movement as people with offers elsewhere would have already had to have accepted their offer. I know some on this forum with offers from Tring, Elmhurst or RBS have said that they wouldn't be attending the Hammond audition as they had already accepted their place elsewhere, so this lead me to believe that this would result in less movement than if the auditions had been closer together?! Hope that makes sense lol Also I know it's not a "no" as such as she was still offered a place and if we had the money then she could start in September, and a reserve for funding is kind of a maybe but in reality she was on reserve lists last year and didn't get to go so it's hard to not just see it as a no. But I also know that I'm just feeling a little sad and my outlook will bounce back by tomorrow and I'll be back to the onward and upward outlook and have a smile on my face again, think it just shocked me at how much it upset me when I don't usually get too affected by these results!!

I hope your dd takes the news okay Staceydor, but she should be so proud to have done so well especially going for a year 9 place!!

Does everyone who gets a no go into the reserve pool or only a few? I know at Tring everyone who doesn't get offered a MDS goes on a reserve list where as Elmhurst only place a few on their list....Anyobe know how Hammond does there's?

    Hammond final

It's the reserve list for my dd too, not surprised but feeling much sadder than I expected to feel. It's taken me by suprise really as like I've said many times we went into this year with the attitude of a funded place in year 8 is going to be almost impossible to gain, and yet I'm feeling really deflated and dreading telling dd, who I know will take the news perfectly well but still knowing this was her last shot for year 8 makes me feel sad to have to tell her that it was as good as another no Don't get me wrong I'm proud that she got reserve and not just an outright no but I can't imagine there being much movement on the reserve list especially with all the other finals having already taken place and offers would have been accepted/declined already. Best of luck to those still awaiting results ????

  21. Ballet4boyz I couldn't agree more, it does sound like a wonderful school, just wish I'd know about it sooner so dd could have audition last year!! Good luck everyone ????

Nor us balletmum20, hopefully we hear by the end of the week
  23. Yes it normally is May-October ish and as I put in title it's for anyone aged 18 or older. I don't know a lot about the position other than what ive wrote but thought it might be of interest to someone on this site if they know of a dancer who is out of work or looking for experience etc
  24. Sorry meant to say if interested just pm me for the contact details.
  25. One of my dd's old teachers has a friend who helps out in her dance school over the winter months as during the summer she works in Zante/Crete running hotel entertainment, she has been posting on Facebook that she urgently needs one more Female for a contract starting in May, the details are - Female ages 18+ who can sing as well as dance required for contract beginning in May, rehearsals start Thursday so this really is urgent. Includes flights, accommodation, 3 meals a day plus drinks, 5 shows a week, light daytime duties, 1 day off a week and competitive rates of pay. Would suit someone with a strong personality who is possibly able to be a team leader. She normally holds rehearsals in the UK so I assume this job is the same and the shows are Usually cabaret style shows from what I know. And I know holiday entertainment crews aren't exactly ballet but it is still dance and I though someone may have a dd or friend who would be free over the summer and be interested in some work abroad, so I hope nobody minds me posting this
