  1. Well put snape, at the end of the day they know who they want and why and for everyone else it's a guessing game and best not to give it too much thought!!
  2. Glad to know there is some sense to my logic then lol and my daughter weren't the only one opting for Lyrical!
  3. My dd has always done Lyrical for her solo, I figured that as they do a ballet class as part of the audition process maybe it was better to show a different style....it's worked well enough to get her offers of a place and funding finals but she has never secured a MDS, however they also don't have to do their solo in funding audition so not sure the solo would have a massive amount of bearing on an offer of funding?? I am intrigued now too!! (As to what solos everyone else has and how it worked out for them) lol
  4. I do remember being told at auditions last year that only the year 7 & 8's are recalled to funding audition but don't recall them giving a reason as to why that is?
  5. Huge congratulations skintdancemum, this is a huge achievement, they must be very interested in your dd!! When my dd auditioned we knew another girl who had only applied for Mids but was invited to finals and she was then offered a place!! Exciting times ahead and best of luck for finals!!
  6. Glad to hear your lovely dd is doing well and managed to put all this behind her, I'm sure the future is very bright for your little star xx
  7. Sorry to hijack a thread but can anyone recommend a contemporary summer school or holiday course for a 13 year old with not a lot of contemporary experience? Thank
  8. My DD didn't have a song prepared and was just asked to sing Happy Birthday and she was offered a place and a funding audition so don't worry too much about it xx
  9. My DD is not auditioning this year and I know of a couple of other dc whom have decided not to audition this year also!
  10. I done my dd's last year at home in the kitchen infront of plain wall and she got to finals in everything she applied for so it definitely doesn't need to be done by a professional as I haven't a clue about dance lol but in the studio with teacher would be ideal, that's what we done first year. Good luck ????
  11. Wow cupcake what a lovely ending!! And a huge achievement for your dd, congratulations!! Xx
  12. Thank you all and she isn't giving up dance completely, she's returning to her Little local school, she's gave up all her associate classes bar one which she really really loves but that is all the ballet she will do, one monthly class!! She is just going to dance locally for fun. It is a real shame as she has done so well but I fully support her decision after all it is her life and she needs to be 100% happy. Plus she was thrown into it all so quickly and the last two years have been a whirlwind so I don't think she's really had much chance to take a step back and question is this really what I want? We didn't apply for any summer schools this year and I think the summer break gave her that little space to really think about the way things were going, and she realised she really missed her friends and the troupes and the lyrical, modern etc And just the fun!! She still loves Ballet but Whether or not she will ever return to ballet only time will tell xx
  13. Absolutely sarahw, a little sad that it's all over as I am incredibly proud of her but ultimately it's her choice and I must admit it will be nice not having all the worry, fretting and rushing about any more lol xx
  14. Well We won't be auditioning this year, dd has decided to get off the ballet roller coaster so wishing you all the best of luck for this years auditions, just can't believe it's that time of year again?!? The years just fly by!!
  15. Aww I'm sorry but the one I have isn't suitable then, but good luck with your search!!
  16. Hi pointytoes what size are you looking for?

    Nice Attack

It just makes you so sad for humanity to think that this is what our world is coming to!! I really feel very deeply for the French, to have so many attacks and to hear your president say that you need to accept that terrorism is a part of your life now, as a nation I can't begin to imagine how you must feel after this onslaught?! Prayers for all those affected and may they rest in peace

    Hammond final

Wow what wonderful news!! Just goes to show that there is always a chance of late movement!! Huge congratulations to your dd and good luck to you all x
  19. Never heard of Russian Pointes? Are they really good then? Lol x
  20. Linmm I only know a couple - is : ) with no space between is : ( is : D And that is it for me, if anyone knows any others I'd like to know how to do them too!! Sorry for taking off topic lol
  21. No Lisa I've never seen the books?! May have to look into them, you may have just found me a birthday present for DD this year, thanks
  22. Me and DD love Brian Cox, she has his box sets, so this is music to my ears and I can't wait for it to make its way onto our screens!! Hopefully it will be this year, maybe Christmas time!!
  23. Short waiting list, pretty self explanatory but it means a short wait list with just a few names on it, in other words your top of the list. I've just picked up things as I've gone along by asking if I see something I don't understand, good luck
  24. I agree that this reads as very sad but I can relate as my DD sometimes feels she's been unsuccessful with not getting funding, she fully understands that she has secured a place and that's a huge achievement but when speaking to any friends and family members who find at all hard to understand all she ever hears is "so you didn't get in then?!" I think an outsider has very black/white view on it all you either got in or you didn't, and no matter how many times you explain they never quite get it and this can be so disheartening to a child. So maybe if the mother and DD have heard this so many times it has skewed their outlook?? However, that said I believe that it is the mothers place to remain positive and really emphasise the achievement the DD has made, young dancers are often very hard on themselves as they strive for perfection and pin all their hopes into gaining a place and achieving their dreams, so we need to make sure that they understand that there are many roads to Rome and the funding doesn't mean you weren't good enough, just there wasn't enough money to go around!! I really wish them the best of luck with their decision and for the dd's future!
