  1. Sorry to hear the waiting list news. It is so, so hard to wait.
  2. Rats! Obviously I meant to write Jacob instead of Connor in my previous post Jason and Jacob...seemingly not that hard to remember... Bleah.
  3. You can see all the dances in full - the website has the clips: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p023t1xz/clips I liked the talking. In fact I agree very much with this review: http://www.theartsdesk.com/dance/bbc-young-dancer-2015-bbc-four Along with the reviewer I also went straight to watch the duet with Jason and Connor and agree that Jason is another to watch. But I was also very impressed with Connor's performance of "Wavelength", choreography by Amanda Britton. I am very much looking forward to all the other episodes, though contemporary is my favourite; the introductions in the next episodes will help me to learn about and understand the other forms of dance with which I'm less familiar. Kudos to the BBC for this.
  4. These are great - any other fans of the Oh She Glows website?
  5. balletnz there are films of the students on the Rambert school website (and other places like youtube) where you can have a look and see what you think. I think that in looking for funding and bursary opportunities you should consider looking in NZ - I read a very interesting diary by a (NZ? Oz?) student who now, I think, attends the Scottish Conservatoire who was sponsored to a large extent by a benevolent funding body set up to foster links between the UK and Australia. In any case it will be worth you doing a bit of research around this area. The school could also answer some of your questions.
  6. One from Rambert in the Contemporary.
  7. Sorry 2Dancers, yes of course it is not starting in May but suggesting you finish by May. Student Finance have a facebook page which has interesting feedback on it...I do think there is an element of "the luck of the draw" in whether you have a simple or complicated experience.
  8. I'm not absolutely sure but I think it is the first year they have had recalls. Perhaps it is in response to the uncertainty of previous years' time scales - this way everyone should at least know by a certain time - the institution, for numbers, and individuals for planning. Student Finance say you can start applying in May. My own experience is that if even a tiny thing has to change on an application it causes untold difficulty and stress, so I would not begin the process until you have all your ducks in a row. Of course it is better to apply with plenty of time - but students can and do apply a week or two into a course starting. (I wouldn't recommend this either - just saying it's possible!) Just editing to say the experience of changing things on Student Finance applications is purely my own, that others may well have happier experiences - but it left me a gibbering wreck so I'm possibly overreacting....
  9. Congratulations on getting the waiting list! I do know it is a mixed feeling as DD was on it last year. This year for the first time Rambert are holding an audition weekend in New York - om the 18th and 19th April. I do think the recall audition gives you something to work towards and a clear timescale for finding out a result. All the very best to your young dancers and congratulations again. I know of a few beautiful dancers who did not get this far, so very well done to them
  10. They usually are Monday and Tuesday but this week are Thursday and Friday.
  11. I also agree with everyone SP. DD's dad never really says anything to her about her dancing, but cried when she got into her school. Not in front of her, of course Edited because I'd made it sound like DD's father was entirely silent
  12. DD loved her experience at this Easter school.
  13. And did you reply that you loved your daughter too much to not let her do that?
  14. Spooky it's even worse now and very probably your daughter would not be allowed to take both dance and drama as subjects. I know our local school no longer allows it and DD was the last cohort to get to do this. They suggested textiles instead for DS, a complete misunderstanding of how creativity manifests - i.e. it is not the case that if someone is creatively blessed in dance and drama they will be equally blessed in visual arts. It's like they see "creativity" as an amorphous blob of a character flaw that just needs to be catered for in the most desultory way. I will say that if we do not keep on making a noise about this the creative subjects are in danger of disappearing from school curricula entirely. Whilst I agree that school dance does not prepare students for a life in dance (interesting that students are told they will not succeed well in GCSE music if they are not studying an instrument in outside lessons, but not told this about dance), if creative subjects continue to be sidelined as they have been for the past few years, the concern is that they will seem less and less relevant, with follow-on consequences that are varied, but all dire.
  15. Thank you very much for sharing these, Lin. It is really interesting to see. Also if anyone has seen Jeyasingh's (glorious) work, it is fascinating to see the cross-pollination of stylistic and technical elements. Slightly off dance, but DH has worked with a youth orchestra of South Asian instrumentalists for a number of years now and we know that the levels of skill and hard work in the young people, the worries about competition and being assessed out, the parental involvement and concern, are all things we would be very familiar with!
  16. "Exciting and expensive times" has just made me laugh out loud in rueful recognition. Indeed. Many congratulations. I've heard good things about this school.
  17. I'm pretty sure there are two boys from Rambert in this competition.
  18. Good luck swanprincess. You carry so many people's sincere good wishes with you. All the best and enjoy yourself!
  19. Yes Lala, how odd to be a year on. As Klaris says, it's really worth trying again if it's a no. Congratulations to lilacfairy and Regattah.
  20. Yes it was a zip Oyster card for 16+ but because I applied from my home address (not in London) it only gives DD discounted travel. The London zip Oyster gives discounts on Tube but free bus travel and DD will be using buses mostly.
  21. Yes I've just received a lovely lovely Oyster card - that gives DD half price travel, rather than free travel, on buses. She will have to apply in London again. I was so pleased with myself and then...not so much. Oh well.

Thank you ana - I looked at it before but wondered about it because I couldn't feel it or see it move (perils of the internet) - this advice is just what I needed. Thanks everyone for the replies. I do appreciate it. (I think Jojo has had a few pms now )

Yes, I've seen various ones online - wondering about experiences with quality really. I only have experience of the Bloch.
