  1. Babilée did classes with Marika in the 50's at her school but I maintain that it was Julia Sedova who ran ran the ballet in Monte Carlo and was the teacher ,
  2. It was better than I expected , it was good to see such enthusiasm. But please Wayne Sleep STOP telling us you are five foot two ,and do not do Déboulés enchainés at every opportunity!!!!
  3. Ismene Brown is incorrect when she states that Marika Besobrasova was Jean Babilée's teacher in Monte Carlo ,it was Julia Sedova (a ballerina with St Petersburg Ballet) Marika was a student of Sedova's and later became her assistant .Julia Sedova was a great teacher , Serge Golovine and Renée (Zizi) Jeanmaire were also her pupils in the early 40's. Marika later had a successful school in Monte Carlo.
  4. We must watch then we will be able to comment .
  5. I was referring to the height of men , although small women do find it hard to get jobs unless exceptionally talented (Lucette Aldous was rejected by the Royal it was only after her great success with Rambert and Festival Ballet that she joined RB) Laura Day with BRB is is tiny 5' 00' and very talented .
  6. Yes well done to Precious Adams looking back through the blogs ,she obviously took on board all that Monique Loudieres told her, intelligent young lady, I'm sure a company will offer her a place. The winner is a cracking dancer but small difficult nowadays to find a job ,Directors specify minimum height all the time ( please do not mention Wayne Sleep because it was 40 years ago and times have changed) It is a lovely competition, I feel the candidates are nurtured unlike another in the US where very young children do variations that are well beyond them (and on pointe!!!)
  7. I liked the 2 Brazilian girls great potential ,not keen on the "for Diego" contemporary piece for the boys but thought the "rite of spring" was terrific.Surprised the French boy got a prize as his classical was not very strong but did well in the contemporary . Will have to watch the stream again , the judges obviously see the candidates for a whole week and judge on more than the final
  8. It was like seeing a bird taking flight ,he was a magical being who soared.I was privileged to see him dance.
  9. Bordeaux Ballet's Swan Lake set in Scotland ,Rothbart =Loch Ness monster .Totally Bonkers !!!
  10. If not her Dior coat perhaps her Givenchy ,she never looked like a bag lady coming out of the ROH unlike some of the new generation .I am old fashioned but to me going to the ROH is special ,smart attire would be nice
  11. Going to the ROH Stage door in the 60's was an event ,to see Margot Fonteyn being so gracious signing and chatting to fans before being taken away in her car ,Dowell ,Sibley also were very gracious and beautifully dressed At the Coliseum in the 60's and 70's when LFB were performing the stage door was packed with fans ( they did have some very attractive men in the Co then) Some of the new generation of dancers do come out of stage doors looking less glamorous ,I know they are tired but so were the stars of the 60' and 70' Am I an old grump?
  12. You can spot Christopher Wheeeldon ,Christopher Hampson, Monica Zamora ,David Dawson ,Robert Parker to name a few .Didn't they do well !
  13. Nancy is fine where she is a little firecracker, and perfect for Swanilda

    Fouettes

Many travel without wanting to!!!! I agree untidy arms and hunched shoulders ,,some of the best fouettes were from Toni Lander in Etudes and she did smile (most of you are too young to have seen her) tremendous dancer.

    Fouettes

Do you mean by Russian style that she does not do rond de jambe so just kicks the leg out to seconde? Osipova uses the rond de jambe (which I prefer) also her use of spotting is amazing . Rojo has great fouettés as well .I like to see quality rather than quantity 32 beautiful single fouettés rather than putting in doubles and trebles with shoulders up and arms all over the place.
  16. Wanted to go but no tickets left did anyone see it,any comments.
  17. Janet the red Shoes to see Massine in the cancan and Helpmann being outrageous !!!!
  18. I'm giving you my list The red shoes Mao's last dancer (Chi Cao is magnificent ) White nights Turning pointe Billy Elliot Disney' Fantasia (The Ostriches /Hippos and the Crocodile Hippo Pas de deux Genius)
  19. Minister for the arts ,the only good one was Jenny Lee and that was a very long time ago ,so hurry up munchkin !
  20. Try and find out if there is an associate programme (RBS or Elmhurst )near you for extra classes for your son.
  21. What they are saying to you is not logical ,young students need solid foundation to build upon, skipping a grade at that age does not make sense .Ask them what is their reasoning for not doing grade 3.
  22. I preferred the simplicity of the Chappell design (when SWRB did it ) to the polka dots at the RB.
  23. On their website BRB are using a photograph of Marianela Nunez to advertise Rendez Vous in the Polka Dot costume ,and the designer is credited as Anthony Ward .the original designer was William Chappell ,so my guess is that they will be using the RB costumes.
