My Dd was in customised dreampointes, she then moved to Miracles (which are now like gold dust!).  We went to Dancia International and she tried on a standard Streampointe, she said very similar to what she had, and didn’t need any customisations.

She is using these and a new brand called Virtisse at school now.

    That’s great thank you xx

DS auditioned last week for Year 7 at White Lodge, now anxiously awaiting results, feels like a long time already! Anyone know when results likely to come out? They said around 2 weeks, but think in past years it’s been earlier, hope that’s the case!

It could be different now but when my DD auditioned it was 5 days later . All the results were sent out the same day . Seven years ago yesterday we got the good news.Best of luck to your DS shouldn’t be too long now , keep refreshing those e mails xxx

Hi, I was thinking of buying one of the RAD Grade 4/5 DVDs to help me with my forthcoming Grade 4 examination.  However, the RAD are a bit unclear in their description of what it contains.  Does anyone have a copy please?  I don't want to buy it (it is quite expensive) if all that is on it are demonstrations of each of the set exercises and dances, without breaking down some of the more difficult exercises, for instance.  This is because, I have found an RAD run through of all the set exercises and dances for Grade 4 on You Tube.

So I'm wondering if then official DVD provides more than that?  Help please!

You can down load the app xx

Sorry, this is my fault for maybe using the wrong phrase, I didn't mean to make it sound sinister.  I do apologise.  In reality it was more like a casual conversation that was along the lines of "oh, I think so and so will get in to X school, also so and so..."  It is true though that it is quite worrying how some kids are very active on social media at such a young age although I suspect for some of them, the posters are the parent/s.  The flipside to this is that I find it very freaky when a parent posts on a child's account but uses the first person voice, like they are the child actually writing the caption or comment.

Apologies I think what I was trying to say came out wrong too ! Of course it’s hard not to compare and second guess when presented with photos . Even now all these years on it’s hard not to do that . I think posting the journey on social media can add extra pressure for children but then there’s the flip side where it can help stay connected and of course it’s always nice to both share and read about good news. Best of luck for next year , what’s meant to be will be xx

Oh I know, Springflower - it can be very entertaining these days though.  People my age use it more to keep in touch with a wider range of friends and family but youngsters these days have to be monitored so carefully.  I made sure my DCs only signed up when they were actually the minimum age, I told them there was no way I would let them open an account even if they offered to put "parent or mum monitored" on it.  I remembered my youngest asking if s/he can have one too and I said the internet police will come knocking if anyone under the minimum age signs up for one 🤣  I am horrified how young ones these have lives that are so openly public in some cases.  As I said in my previous post, about a month or so ago, just for fun because both me and my DC love ballet we thought we would try to guess who would get into a certain vocational school just based on posts we've seen of these kids auditioning (either posted my themselves or their schools) and what we have heard about them.  The truly amazing yet worrying thing is that we correctly guessed 10 out of a potential 12/14.  That is how small and predictable this world has become!

“ Guessing who gets in “ gosh that feels like a bit of a blood sport especially with children so young . I’m glad that once these children are in vocational training their posts are monitored ,would leave them very vulnerable otherwise . When my DD was in year six and preparing for vocational auditions she trained two hours a week plus her junior associate classes . Nearer the time of auditions she increased the ballet slightly and put a hold on the tap and modern just so she didn’t burn out . She was lucky to get a place at WL and in her class there was a real mix of levels of training . However they did all have the necessary ingredients. As a ballet teacher and a ballet mum I would always say it’s a marathon not a sprint . With natural potential taking a student much further than hours of coaching . I’ve never believed in having extra coaching whilst in vocational school other than Easter / summer schools . Young bodies need to rest and grow . Of course everyone takes their own path and decides how best to achieve their goals this is just the recipe I believe has worked for my daughter. She’s now in her final year at the lower school . Good luck next year to your DC, take the pressure of comparison away and try and enjoy the process it’s not for the faint hearted 😂 but it’s a journey we would both take again . Xx

My fault for not explaining! Truthfully we were really hoping for Elmhurst or YDA but DD got a no for both for full time training next year. It seems to me that entering these vocational schools for year 10 is very difficult. If we move back next year instead, she would be going into year 11 which I think will be almost impossible. So right now my options are Moorland this year or continue here in Orlando for a year and take our chances next year in the UK! So much to think about!

Also look at kings international, excellent training and accepts students going in at year 10 or 11 .

  7. I don’t have a child studying there , but my daughter attended the summer school and said the training was absolutely brilliant and she came on a lot just in the short space of a week . We also know a couple of current students who have just gone from strength to strength . Hope this helps .

I've tried to find the answer online but can't find anything that says it clearly. Do all White Lodge students get an MDS grant that covers their tuition fees? I know in some schools they do an additional round of auditions for funding but I can't quite figure out what the position is for White Lodge. Many thanks.

Yes it’s all means tested .

Some of these posts make really worrying reading to new parents that are about to enter into the audition cycle in a year or two for their children that have a dream!

Reading these posts worries me that it would be the wrong thing to do to even entertain the idea of auditioning for any vocational school, but surely it must work for some? Is it really that bad?

    Hi SJBallet ,

i think you just have to do what feels right for your child and your family . Whilst weighing up the risks and the gains.  It was with much trepidation I sent my dd off to full time ballet school age 11 but I knew that this was the best chance of her getting to do what she loves day in day out without having to juggle travelling to classes on top of doing a full school day whilst still living at home . She is now in her final year of the lower school and I can honestly say neither one of us have ever looked back . She’s made wonderful friendships , has benefitted from the small academic classes and despite being a small fish in a very large pond she has never felt undervalued or over looked . That’s not to say she’s complacent , assessments are a nerve wracking time , year nine in particular was tough emotionally not just from worrying about whether she would go through herself but also the upset when close friends do not , this can be devastating all round . That said those children have all bounced back and seem to be flourishing at other schools . There have been so many happy times and the majority of phone calls I get reflect that . Lots of giggles , excitement and news about the day . Of course there’s the other phone calls when it’s doom and gloom , an injury that is niggling or a concern in an area that is flagged for improvement not to mention the inevitable homesickness. On measure for me the happiness has outweighed the sadness and there’s never been a spilt second when either one of us have thought we made the wrong decision . We both realise that statistically the chance of gaining a place at the upper school is unlikely and I hope if this is the case that it doesn’t taint any of the wonderful memories of her time spent there or mine for that matter . I think no matter what the outcome , her five years at vocational school has tought ,  her to follow her dreams , to be motivated , independent

and to not be scared of failure. She used to have a picture on her wall that said “ but what if I fall ?..... but what if you fly my dear “ ... something like that anyway and I think it sums it up perfectly . Best of luck to you and your little dancer , just buckle up and enjoy the ride 😀

  11. Does anyone have any tips on how best  to prevent blisters and also any tips on speeding up healing and recovery ? My DD has a very painful raw blister almost covering the back of her heel . Not the best timing with a busy week ahead including her annual ballet assessment.

Please forgive me if this a silly question. We’re based in the US so we’re not as familiar with how the Royal Ballet School chooses students. DS15 is thrilled to be attending the summer intensive at White Lodge this year. Do they ever invite summer intensive students to join the year-round program? Or is that through the formal audition process only?

Yes students attending summer school could potentially be spotted and offered a full time place or a place as an international scholar. Well done to your son , my DD will also be 15 v soon and will be there weeks 1 and 2 , so they might see each other there 😃

We also got a no and DD is a JA, so wondering where that leaves us on our JA journey? We are new to all this and find it so confusing at times...so a no for SS as a current JA, is there still a chance for Mids?

Absolutely not , I remember from my daughters Ja class three that got a no for summer school first time ended up as mid associates and from that , one is now a senior associate. My DD was wait listed in year 5 for SS luckily a very last minute place came up and she is now in year 10 at WL.
