  1. My dd is current year 7 and I know her head of year well; so I know that she definitely hasn't done hers. I'm a bit worried now that it's a bad sign if they've sent some and not others! Gulp!
  2. Oh Willow that's so difficult! Obviously all of the schools want to secure the students they want, but it doesn't make it easy on the children or the parents having to make decisions! Good luck with whatever you decide!
  3. We couldn't afford to register for Tring and weren't fortunate enough to secure an MDS awarded place so we sent a letter pretty much straight away to say it was well out of our financial realm without funding. Does anyone know the kind of numbers for the Hammond? How many will be there Monday and for how many places? I know there were rumours of both numbers prior to Tring finals but I haven't seen or heard anything regarding Hammond numbers......Although maybe sometimes the not knowing is better!
  4. My dd's school hasn't received them either Willow04! I was a bit worried too, but maybe they send them out after next Monday?!
  5. Oh so sorry to hear that HappyMum. It really is horrible. If only money wasn't such a massive obstacle.
  6. Thank you HappyMum and I hope you receive good news soon. The waiting is the worst! Dd is a fighter so she'll be ok. I help out at one of her ballet lessons (which was first thing this morning) and I expected her to look a bit deflated and sad, but she did the exact opposite; worked her socks off and performed the class like she was on stage! So hopefully these knocks will only stand to make her stronger as I guess she feels she has more to prove!
  7. It's a no and the reserve list for us. Even when expected it's still a little sad to get the actual letter. Good luck to those still waiting and a massive well done to those who are celebrating with a yes this weekend!
  8. Ah thank you for giving me a glimmer of hope SwaybackSapphire! I'm still not overly optimistic but it's nice to hear it's not a complete impossibility! xx DancingForJoy, it must have been so so stressful for those who had already been attending the school. Even more pressure for those dc than those hoping for a first time place I would have thought. Well done to your dc for successfully obtaining an award! It's just such a shame there is so little for funding for so many talented children. I have already pre-empted dd for a no, she says she'll be disappointed but she's resilient! HappyMum, I leave for work early tomorrow so it will be a long day for me!! Good luck to everyone awaiting results! Xx
  9. Loulabelle, there were at least a couple in the 11.15am class who are current Tring students, one of which didn't have an MDS place for the first year but is now auditioning for one. As much as it feels like it must put our currently non voc dc at a disadvantage, I can't help but feel for those who have already been at the school for a year and may be facing the possibility of having to leave if they are not awarded an MDS place. Must be very hard on them. Piccolo my dd from the same session was not asked to see the physio either. She feels like she did her best and is remaining positive which is slightly heartbreaking seeing as I think the odds are against her! She was in the same position last year when she tried for a year 7 place and the 'no' email came very quickly the next morning. I hope it isn't a two week wait!
  10. Yes I expect that must be it, although makes me think they have invited a lot back for funding audition if they were originally all grouped together and have now been split! Eek!
  11. It's for DD and she is trying for Year 8 Happymum, so if your dd is year 7 maybe they've kept times the same? I received the amended time by email
  12. Ours was 9.15am and is now 11.15am! We're happy with the slightly later time too!
  13. I agree with the above. Chantry Dance Company are brilliant, as is their associates programme. I believe it runs once monthly on a Sunday. I was really upset that my dd had to give it up when her CAT classes changed to a Sunday. She'd love to go back in the future if the chance arises! Highly recommend them!
  14. Yes I don't think my nerves could take waiting until after the January auditions Happymum! Ooh good luck to you all of you first audition candidates then Cantabile! I wonder if it will just be the early November auditions they'll send out or whether they'll send them out all in one go?! If it's about 4 weeks from each audition date I might just have to wait until after Christmas day to tell dd as I'd hate her to spend Christmas feeling upset!
  15. I've just noticed that there are a couple more Junior Dance audition dates on Tring's website for January! I was just wondering if anyone who had early November auditions have received their result? Dd auditioned yesterday and we weren't given a time scale for results so I'm just trying to gage how long we may have to wait! Dd felt she danced her best but also felt there were others in the group who were much stronger, so not expecting a recall given the number of audition dates this year and the fact she's trying for a year 8 place, but it would be nice to find out prior to Christmas so she can move on and focus on the next goal if it's a no! Good luck to all those waiting and to those still to audition!!
  16. That's reassuring to hear Tinydancer, thank you! It was dd's first time last year and I think she was automatically residential being main cast? So this is a slightly new experience this time round as a JA! Keeping my fingers crossed there is space as she loved it last summer!
  17. Well done to your dd Danceroo! Same here, but as it's for JA ballet not main cast I have to wait until after Easter to see whether she will have a residential place. She won't be able to accept it if she doesn't as it will be too much of a commute for us daily! Debating whether to tell her the good news or wait until I know whether she has a residential place at summer school first. I don't want her to be excited and then potentially disappointed in a few weeks time!
  18. I hope your dd enjoyed today Danceroo! It sounds promising if she was called in several times so fingers crossed for you! My dd was there too....I notice the letter said results would be end of April.....I hope not as waiting for results is always the worse part!! Last year they were out within the week!! I'm wondering whether any of those who auditioned last week for main cast have heard anything yet? (Dd was only called for JA final this year whereas last year she was called for both main cast and JA's so we're feeling a little anxious!)

And I resent the way you talk to people sometimes S&P without knowing all the facts or assuming what I do and don't know. You still seem to be talking at me with a very clipped tongue. Not entirely appreciated.

Hmmm feels a little bit like a personal attack when like I say I am an adult sensibly sharing information that I and dd are happy to.......Which is probably a lot less dangerous than some of the older yet still 'young' dancers who have their own pages. I have loved looking at all of the pages I have come across but there are a lot of photos on many of these. Just because they are 15/16 does it mean they are any safer than a responsible adult acting on behalf of their 12 year old? Probably not but I have enjoyed looking at all of the pages of these beautiful aspiring dancers so I think it is down to the individual and their parents/children. In my case I know my dd better than anyone on this forum and know what is acceptable/appropriate for both of us. Although I appreciate your concern I feel it is a little misdirected in the grande scheme of things. I know countless dancing children some under some above the FB recommended age who post a huge amount of information both data and photographic very publicly and their parents are quite oblivious to the fact. There are definitely more serious concerns, but I guess you can choose to target who you wish on a site like this! I take no offence. What is 'right' for one person on here isn't always 'right' for another.

Dd has knowledge of anything posted in relation to her on FB. I myself when I danced for NYB years ago had an article printed in the local newspaper about my dancing achievements. Wrongly the newspaper published my surname and the name of the road I lived in. As a result I received hoax phonecalls as my surname was a relatively unusual one, so from the information given it wasn't difficult for someone to obtain my phone number. Just regrading the point of disclosing information online without our childrens consent.........How many members on here can honestly say that their children know every single thing that is discussed about them on this forum. Very few I should imagine if we are being honest. I have and will always be of the opinion that social networking can be very dangerous. IF you don't know how to use it.
  22. Dd is an associate on this scheme and I cannot recommenced it highly enough! She has really benefited from and enjoyed the whole experience so far. Paul and Rae are fantastic tutors and have shown a genuine interest in dd's dancing both on and off the course. They are extremely supportive & encouraging of their students.

I am very internet savvy and wouldn't post anything that puts any of my children in a dangerous position. As most people will and do have photos of their children as their profile/cover photo will know, these are also accessible to anyone. So I am always mindful of the type of photos I use. I wouldn't not have my photos on FB but my privacy settings are all very restrictive on my personal profile. My dd is not on FB and will not be until the the minimum age stated to have an FB account. She also knows that even at this point I will have her password not to be a controlling Mother but a caring and protective one. Lots of her friends already have accounts and I know they have posted photos from parties etc that include my dd. Lots of dance schools/companies both dance and business e.g. dance wear suppliers use images of children on their websites and FB pages. I do not intend on using an abundance of images on my page and I would not disclose private information such as her full name, address etc on any public forum. But I do think it's those who do not have a full understanding of the internet and social media who are more at risk than someone who is using it in a fun and informative way with a good knowledge of how things work! Again, as any of you with an FB page will know, you can have joint administrators and when dd is old enough I will continue alongside her to administrate the page (along with overseeing her personal account when she has one!) to ensure she is using it in a safe and appropriate way. I echo chaperone regarding some people not being cautious enough as time and time again on FB, Twitter and Instagram I have seen numerous dancers posting acceptance letters etc from auditions which are a cause for concern as they display far too much private information in a very public domain.

I love this and will go along and like any of the pages I can find! In fact, I think it's such a good idea that I have just created one for dd! I am going to maintain 'guardianship' of it until she is 13 and has her own FB then she can take over and share her journey if she chooses to! I love hearing about the journeys of all your talented dancing children so it's nice to put faces to names and hear how they are doing!
  25. I'm considering this for dd next Easter so would love to hear what your dc think of it this time round! Please keep me posted with their reviews! I decided against it this year as I thought that with making it through to the funding finals for full time school there and then falling at the last hurdle by not being offered a place, it may be a bit too bitter sweet to send her off at Easter giving her a taster of what could have been! Although that said she has auditioned for NYB and if she makes it through the final will be staying at Tring for their rehearsals during the summer anyway!
