  1. Hi all. How long was the audition? Wondering if DD can cope with 2 auditions back to back in January? One in Birmingham and one in Bristol??? Not the same day I might add, one on one day the other the next.
  2. Thank you everyone that has been really helpful
  3. Thank you I thought so. Just trying to think of alternatives if my DD does not get into RBS MIDs next year. Everything seems so far away (I live in Gloucestershire).
  4. Am I right in thinking that Elmhurst do not offer an Associate class over the age of 10? It seems it's full time at 11.
  5. Hi Amber21. Sounds like you have a bit more experience than us. My DD only started JAs this year and is, I believe a couple of grades behind everyone else. Which of course means she probably isn't at a good enough standard to actually get into WL anyway. But I agree the opportunities are fabulous, maybe we will see you at Covent Garden in Half Term?
  6. Hi MIAS. Thank you, I didn't know any of this! Yes she is applying for MAs so this sounds like a sensible alternative. I'm glad I posted my question now.
  7. Hi all. A question about the above, is it considered 'the done thing' to apply for and audition for, places at say WL, even if you know the child won't be accepting a place if offered? Is it OK to just do it for the experience? MY DD is in year 6 JAs and knows she dosen't want to 'go to boarding school' and in fact I wouldn't want her to go either. It won't suit her as she is emotionally quite young. We have an opportunity to visit WL, but I'm not sure if I will be just wasting everyone's time and putting DD under unnecessary pressure.
  8. Hello everyone. I just wanted to share our great news. We got a phone call today from the RBS offering my daughter a place in Bristol for the JAs year 6. She was on SWL and I had just about managed to forget about it until today. The whole family is so excited for her. Might have to go for a celebratory curry on Friday
  9. Ah, OK. I had an email from Elmhurst saying that Places are very limited with applications arriving daily. They cannot guarantee a place but a waiting list will be created for those interested, again with no guarantees of a place. Should I still try do you think?
  10. Having a little chuckle to myself Twiglet I'm glad it's not just me who feels like that. I feel like a complete nutter and the really worrying thing is that my DD has completely moved on and dosen't give it another thought. Right, where's that phone charger...
  11. Sigh... Ok, ok I know that in a previous post I said I wouldn't watch the post for a letter... but curiosity is driving me nuts and I would love to know if anyones son or daughter on the short waiting list for RBS JAs, has had a second chance letter offering them a place at Birmingham or Bristol? I would be particularly interested in anyone who auditioned for a year 6 place. This may be a post for a new discussion?!
  12. From what I can gather, there were only 2 or 3 places for Year 6 JAs in Bristol too. I presume the JA year system is the same as the school system!!! So DD is year 5 at school now and auditioned for year 6 place?!
  13. Thank you Legseleven That's really helpful. I live in Gloucestershire so some of these will be just a bit too far to travel. But I will look at the others though. Yes I think so.
  14. No. Missed the auditions for Elmhurst Thank you for clearing up the abbreviations. I've got a lot to learn, me thinks! I think I might come back to this subject in September and get a list from all the lovely people on the forum of all the possible classes that my daughter can apply for.
  15. Bluebird. My daughter only auditioned for Bristol JAs. We are very new to this and have since realised that she could have also auditioned for Elmhurst and should have auditioned for a JA place in Birmingham. You live and learn. Dancingfeet. I'm not sure what all the abbreviated letters stand for but it sounds very impressive . I have been shocked at how easily I have been swept up in all the ballet classes stuff. My daughter on the other hand has kept her two feet fully planted on the ground (for once) and is much more relaxed about the whole thing than I am.
  16. Thanks Bluebird22 that's good to know. At least now, I know I don't have to be on post watch for the next 3 months waiting for the possibility of another letter
  17. From a personal point of view It would be interesting to see how many short listed kids actually get offered a place. I can't imagine any girls (or boys) would willingly give up a place. If someone is offered places at 2 different schools, do they have to pick one or can they have both? It seems a little unfair to keep both places. Declining one would free up space for others.
  18. Thank you I appreciate the info. One and half hours in the car. Do-able.
  19. Hello I've been reading all your posts with great interested. I'm new to JAs and to the forum. My daughter got a letter saying she was on the short list for Bristol. On the letter I have the option to consider another venue. Does anyone know where the Birmingham classes are held? I'd like to work out how long it might take me to get there, as I live in Gloucestershire.
