  1. Sarasota Ballet and San Francisco Ballet have cancelled the entire remainder of their seasons. Sarasota announced as follows: "While this represents a potential financial loss to the Company of close to $800,000, we are committed to our dancers, and will continue to pay them through to the end of the Season.""
  2. but geoblocked outside France, unless something has changed since yesterday
  3. There are still a few glitches in Bavarian State Ballet website re next season (anything is forgiveable in the current circumstances): on the English page they say they are doing Swan Lake and Spartacus on the same day at the same time in the same theatre next April.... which would be interesting in a contrapuntal sort of way..
  4. "insisting" is a bit strong, isn't it? It's one of three options offered. All you have to do is tick the box, no insisting required. You can't blame them for offering the other two options.
  5. Chemnitz is also offering only vouchers to be exchanged for another show. Not much good to me; when am I likely to be going to a performance in Chemnitz again? Berlin is offering refund voucher donate to the dancers' health fund
  6. Romeo and Juliet Performances Cancelled March 13, 2020 … Barry Hughson, Executive Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced that due to the unprecedented pandemic of Coronavirus (COVID-19), all performances of Romeo and Juliet as well as In Studio classes and events are cancelled effective immediately. The above is for Toronto. All performances are also cancelled at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. The R&J run was supposed to go for another week, followed by a tour to Ottawa.
  7. It's kind of ironic that I was supposed to be going to a performance there next week of a contemporary mixed program, and judging by the seating plan, the "reduced audience" had taken care of itself. By my guess not more than 300 tickets had been sold!
  8. I just received an email from Berlin State Ballet (I have 26 tickets booked with them for the coming week) offering the following options: I would like a voucher for the value of the ticket(s). I would like a refund: I waive a refund and donate the purchase price to the health programme of the Staatsballett Berlin. San Francisco Ballet is also asking patrons if they would consider donating the value of their ticket. Otherwise they will offer a credit for another SFB performance valid till May 2021. Not much good for people who might be travelling great distances to see the cancelled performances. I wonder if they can get away with not offering a refund. Paris Opera Ballet is doing automatic refunds (they must have that process down pat by now!)
  9. What is a "welcome performance"? Sounds very Orwellian if it means that we regular ballet fans are ... not welcome. Seriously though, could someone explain what that means to me? I was planning to bring a group to that performance (although everything's on hold right now because of COVID)
  10. This from the Canadian Public Health Agency: Wearing masks If you are a healthy individual, the use of a mask is not recommended for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Wearing a mask when you are not ill may give a false sense of security. There is a potential risk of infection with improper mask use and disposal. They also need to be changed frequently. However, your health care provider may recommend you wear a mask if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 while you are seeking or waiting for care. In this instance, masks are an appropriate part of infection prevention and control measures. The mask acts as a barrier and helps stop the tiny droplets from spreading you when you cough or sneeze.
  11. The problem with people using masks that don't need them is that it is creating a shortage for those who DO need them.
  12. But other experts say they are worse than useless because the discomfort of wearing one makes people touch their faces more! We are being told that the only people who should wear masks are those who are already sick (who shouldn't be out in public anyway)
  13. Paris Opera is now closed. They have cancelled performances the day before yesterday, yesterday and today and will make an announcement tomorrow concerning what is going to happen with upcoming performances.
  14. Australian Ballet just announced this 10 minutes ago on their facebook feed BREAKING NEWS: David Hallberg will be the next artistic director of The Australian Ballet! This international dance star is currently a principal of American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet, a principal guest at The Royal Ballet, and Resident Guest Artist of our company. We’re delighted that he’ll be bringing his unique vision, experience and leadership to this role. David has a long relationship with and admiration for our company, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him in 2021. and on Hallberg's fb feed Announced today in Melbourne, I am thrilled to share that I will become the next Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet The Australian Ballet starting January 2021. I am excited at the opportunity to finally realize an artistic vision and it feels like the right place and the right time to get to work doing so. I have had such amazing opportunities throughout my career and I am so ready to funnel that into a company I so love and respect. I have had a long 10 year history with the company, first as a Guest Artist, then using the expertise of the world renowned Medical Team (which was all explained in the book!) and finally as Resident Guest Artist. This appointment makes so much sense in many ways. It has been a long and eventful (to say the least) career and I have always known that the time will come where I take all of my absorbed experience and become an Artistic Director. This is the time. I can’t wait to realize my ambitious vision for the future of this essential art form with an institution that I so deeply love and respect. See you in Australia!
  15. @bangorballetboy @JohnS am I allowed to ask what booking is looking like for the following performances: June 13 noon Monotones/Tombeaux/Symphonic June 18 evening Queensland Ballet (I'd be needing 20 tix best category)
  16. YEs, and why did she have to start off by saying "It's not everybody's cup of tea". NOTHING is EVERYBODY's cup of tea.
  17. Just to let you know, NBOC typically doesn't announce casting till 3 weeks before. I don't know if this will be any different because they are performing at the ROH.
  18. I think the title of this thread should be 19/20 period 4, shouldn't it? Unless bbb is in some kind of superduper ultra early booking category?
  19. this is the website I use. https://www.bolshoiballetincinema.com/ there are some screenings that are not on the 23rd but the closest one I can find to London is in Dorking. Not very close!
  20. I don't think we should expect companies to apologize for cast changes. And also I think it would look like a slur on the replacement cast, "Terribly sorry, you have to see Celine Gittens" As for explanations, surely we can assume cast changes are due to injury or illness without it having to be spelled out for us. "Delia has a temperature of 102."
