  1. A forum member very kindly sold me her dd's skirt 3 years ago (thank you Hairbelles!) Would be more than happy to pass it on if that would help anyone. It is beautifully made (a hundred times better than I could have managed myself!) and still in excellent condition, as to be honest, they don't wear the skirts much. Measurements as follows: Length inc waistband : 19 inches with 4 inch hem Waist: approx. 21 inches with room to make a little bigger. Please pm me if interested.
  2. My dd was also part of the call back and has been offered a place ... I am still in shock and have mixed emotions about her going away. But of course I am delighted for her as it's what she has wanted for ages. So I guess that makes 3 from the call back so far! Congratulations Waitingmum and Twoballerinas! Look forward to meeting you soon. Am really sorry for the no's - especially getting so close but just goes to show how talented they all are and best of luck everyone for Elmhurst next week!
  3. Thanks for clarifying Pictures, the ballet world is all very confusing! And thank you once again to Frogsmum for the leotard.
  4. Thank you for your replies. I didn't know there was a 3a and 3b but yes, I guess she would need a 3a. Frogsmum I will pm you if I can work out how to do it! Thanks again.
  5. A friend of my dd who is a year 6 JA has outgrown her leotard. Her Mum doesn't want to buy her a new one as she only has 6 months left of JAs and they are quite expensive, so I was wondering if anyone might have an old one that they've finished with, that they wouldn't mind selling. Please let me know if you do. Thanks!
  6. Hi Happymum, I know exactly how you feel! I'm also finding it all quite stressful, especially when our dcs are so excited, positive and full of hope, but we as parents all know their chances are fairly slim and are fearful of the heartbreak a rejection could cause. Try and remain calm (at least outwardly so for dd's sake!) and focus on you both enjoying the whole experience, regardless of the outcome. I know, easier said than done! Good luck to your dd for Tring and Elmhurst. x
  7. Thanks Happymum. Will let you know how it goes. Best of luck to your DD too!
  8. Hi Happymum, my dd is auditioning on the 4th so will let you know if they video or not! Not long to go now :-)
  9. My dd has also had her date confirmed for lower school (we got an email within a few days) .. so maybe wait a couple more days and send them an email if you still haven't heard anything?
  10. Hi Twoballerinas, same here, no acknowledgement as yet. I'm sure they will either send one to everyone at the same time, or maybe we will receive further details by post soon. Let's hope so!
  11. Dd has been offered a place (by email) for Week 2, she is over the moon! Best of luck to all the others on here. x
  12. My dd is also getting very impatient! I think they said results would be sent by email not post, so keep checking those emails .. and best of luck to all those waiting!
  13. I will be there with dd who is 9, so first time for us. She is so thrilled to be in it, she's been going to see the LCB productions since she was 6 and even back then she couldn't wait to be old enough to audition! Kiwimum6, has your ds been in it before?
  14. Hi 2peas, congratulations! We were in a similar position last year, my dd accepted the place she was given, and now enjoys it so much she doesn't want to move to what was her preferred location. We got a letter in February offering her another year and asking if she wanted to change venues, I assume that is a standard letter sent to all JAs? so you can request it then if you want to. Good luck and enjoy!
  15. Congratulations Dancing2003 (and all the other yesses)! My dd is a JA at Eastleigh and absolutely loves it, although am not sure I could face going via Birmingham! Very brave .. well done, and good luck to all those still waiting, and bug hugs to the nos, well done for auditioning and keep on trying!
  16. I was in the other group, but I was also thinking the same! Maybe next time we could meet for a coffee after drop off? Will pm you before next year's workshop if you like. I love this website, full of such good advice and so many lovely, helpful people.
  17. Hi Happymum, my DD loved it too, especially the tour of the ROH, and yes I'm sure many faces will become familiar over the next few years! Hope you also both enjoyed your overnight stay in London.
  18. My dd also does it in her JA classes, although they call it king cobra (which is when the feet touch the head) - don't know how they do it!
  19. Cobra is when you lie on your tummy and curve your back upwards to face the front, to test for flexibility of the spine/back.
  20. My dd auditioned last year and she said they did very basic dancing, skipping, ports de bras, etc., barre work then centre work (line by line), followed by flexibility exercises, box splits, cobra, frogs (lying down). They made it fun and enjoyable for the children and put them at ease, my dd loved it.
  21. Hi happymum, My dd is a year 4 JA and she is looking forward to it too. It will be a lovely chance for them to meet some of the other year 4s, especially as I believe there are only a handful at each of the locations. Should be fun!
  22. Hi, I don't know about the northwest, but we're awaiting RAD results (South East), and have been told the 8th Jan at the earliest.
  23. My dd is doing her third year of festivals and absolutely loves them, and they needn't be too expensive or time-consuming provided you limit them to one or two each year, or whatever you can afford. My dd's confidence on stage has really developed, and performing is what ballet is all about, or at least what my dd loves best about ballet, and festivals are often the only chance for many children to perform solos on stage. I don't find them to be over-competitive and the children at my dd's dance school are very supportive and encouraging of each other (as are most of the mums). As long as you make sure the emphasis is on fun, maybe try out a couple of dances to see if she enjoys the experience? And just ignore the pushy mums!
  24. If anyone else has a national skirt they no longer need and would be happy to sell it, please let me know (am looking for a friend!) Thanks. x
