  1. I was thinking the same as Spanner but she has put it so much better than I could. As a parent when a child moves onto the next stage be it high school, vocational school or university we worry about them. When that child has had problems with health it is really hard to relax, you have probably been there for every stage of the illness, recovery or for support. You head tells you they need to go, your heart wants to keep them physically close. Maybe it is time SP to ask your parents to have a family meeting - don't just tell them dance is what you need to do but ask what is worrying them about it, about you leaving home etc. Talk about options now, post dance, support networks at uni or schools, how you will ask for help if you need it, keep lines of communication open. Listen to their worries, they will be real. I admire your determination but sometimes we need to stand back and think how others are feeling. Your parents have obviously been supportive in the past and if your dad is paying etc he still is and they will want to go on supporting you in your future. Whatever you end up doing I'm sure they will be proud of you.
  2. I don't know why the info isn't on the DaDA website. I think the bursar got so fed up with me asking questions about the process she sent me a copy!
  3. Katymac - on 11th Feb I posted on the DaDA application thread the info we were sent regarding the process last year. It was sent to me as a flow chart but I was unable to copy it as such so have just numbered the stages. But yes you can keep auditioning and collecting DaDA offers until the audition season finishes. The info is collated nationally on who holds what offers where and then a decision needs to be made.
  4. Can't post a link but on the Grishko.co.uk website they have a tutu measurement chart
  5. I didn't thnk you came across as rude at all drdance - just sensible advice.
  6. Do you always go to the same fitter or shop? If so it might be worth thinking about trying somewhere new and not letting on about what size/width shoes you currently have. When dd was first fitted 6 years ago it was decided she was wide across ball of foot but narrow heel. She was fitted with a wider shoe and everywhere she went after that asked what she currently had then put her in a similar width. She went through shoes at an alarming rate even with hard shank until she went for a fitting last year, they really examined her feet, putting her down two width sizes. She now alternates between two styles of Grishko and they last a term. I'm just a dancers mum but am a bit worried by your comment about the drawstring digging in. I was under impression if the shoe was fitted properly the drawstring was pretty much redundant?
  7. And don't citizens of most European countries have to carry their ID cards? We have been on European trains that have crossed borders. Sometimes police board the train and randomly check some or everyone's ID, other journeys you don't know you have crossed the border until you reach next station.
  8. We have an annual European travel insurance (AXA). Both children are covered on it even for individual travel as students. We have checked more than once that it has covered dd for summer schools.
  9. Might be of interest to some with dc studying other fields of arts. Summer Internship Scheme 2015 - Music and Film Intern British Council - London Temporary, Internship British Council UK Summer Internship Scheme 2015 Every summer, we bring new ideas to the organisation by taking on between 10 and 12 interns for a 12-week period from June - September. In return, you learn new skills while on a paid internship, and make some useful contacts for the future. If you are keen to learn more about working for a global charity and to make a real difference over the summer then this opportunity is definitely for you! As part of the programme you will join a specific department in one of our key business areas, and work with a dedicated line manager working on real projects, that add value to our organisation and our international work. 10. I thought I posted this last year but can't find it and again can't copy it? This was for entry 2014 and is titled 'DaDA Application/Assessment Flowchart New Students in 2014 to 2015 academic year'. From knowing dd was offered a place with funding (if within income boundary) to it finally being sorted seemed to take a lifetime but in reality we knew around Easter but not our final contribution until the summer holidays. From what I remember last year ENBS requested the information needed for stage 5 on the initial application form. 1. New student applies to the institution/s and is auditioned 2. Institution ranks the students in order of talent. 3. Institution offers a place (NOT funding) to the student 4. Student provisionally accepts the place and confirms they want to apply for funding (by completing the Self Declaration of income) 5. Student completes Self declaration of income form. 6. The institution records the students on the Budget Management spreadsheet in order of talent. 7. Using the information in the self declaration the institution offers provisional funding to students in order of talent, until the budget is spent (no provisional DaDA funding to be offered before 1st March) 8. Institution sends 'clearing' data to CDET and Drama UK 9. CDET/Drama UK undertake clearing process on a monthly basis between April - August and advise institutions where students are holding places. 10. Students choose their preferred institution and formally accept a place. 11. Following confirmation from the student that they have accepted a place, the institution gives a DaDA application form to the new student. 12. Student completes and submits the DaDA application form together with appropriate income evidence. 13. Institution assesses the DaDA application and evidence and determines the level of household income and the level of financial support. 14. Institution offers final funding to students in order of talent, in accordance with the level of support as determined by their income assessment. 15. Institution updates the Budget Management Spreadsheet.
  11. Yes this is just the first step in the DaDA funding. After places have been allocated with funding they work out if anyone is holding more than one place. Good luck to your dd.

    Giving up

Haggis is your ds at vocational school currently?
  13. I know they will audition you but what I'm wondering is if at 18 they are looking at you as candidates to join 6.3 ( graduate year) at ENBS and Elmhurst. Does anyone know of anyone joining either school in 6.1 at older age from UK?
  14. Someone else might have more insight into this but with ENBS (& Elmhurst) at 18 I'm wondering are they looking for students who have had 2 years upper school vocational training else where?
  15. I may be mean but didn't even consider getting my dd a special leotard for auditions at this age, she wore her RAD one with clean shoes. Her first non uniform leotard was bought as a treat for lower school final auditions. Hope you both enjoy the day whatever the outcome. We always found the photos more stressful than the actual audition.
  16. We used to attend school matinees at both ROH and RAH. Both used to email resources to work through before seeing the performance. Try contacting the education departments of both for advice.
  17. Thank you for your help Swanprincess. Still looking for the perfect Demi pointe shoe so thought they might be an option!
  18. I'm intrigued to know where you source Gamba shoes from Swanprincess? Have you had a fitting?
  19. Chelsea Kitchen is the coffee shop I think you are referring to. Years ago it was on Kings Road, until priced out of the market. Was the best place to get decent food as a struggling student when really needed cheering up!
  20. Yes DaDA for Sept 2014 was calculated on tax year ending March 2014. Of course maintance element might be different. Student finance for Sept 2014 was calculated on tax year ending March 2013.
  21. What I would add is summer schools do tend to be at the beginning of the summer holidays so potentially still have 5 or 6 weeks without dance. There is a course called Back to the Barre that runs in Guildford area I believe, I've no experience of this but know it is at end of summer break. Summer schools vary so much both in quality of teaching and class size. Some my dd feels were a rip off, just a money making scheme. Others she has really enjoyed and has felt were beneficial. We have to ask permission for summer schools from AD and it is always granted but with the message that the holidays are for resting and rejuvenating.
  22. How long would it take you to travel there if no problems with weather or traffic?
  23. Staying might be best option unless a very late afternoon audition. You don't want to get caught out by weather conditions or heavy traffic. The little bit of snow overnight caused chaos on the roads in the area today.
