  1. Thanks eveyone, think I'll try washing it and hope it shrinks. I hate baggy leotards too, I won't buy the official RAD ones as the fit is awful on my dd!
  2. Have just received my dd ja leotard and it's really wide, I think even with the belt on it's going to look very pulled in at the waist. Can anyone tell me how strict they are with the fit of it? As I think the size down will be far to short in the body for her! Maybe I should order the smaller one to compare. Thanks
  3. Hi, my dd is starting year 6 too, not coming from Sheffield though only from Wakefield. Do you know the date and time of the class yet? We haven't got any info as we're currently on holiday and have just had the offer of a place off the waiting list.
  4. Thanks for all the good wishes, she's still on a complete high, went off doing ballet into the sea yesterday as we were on the beach when I told her. It's really made her day as she was beginning to feel Queen of reserves, swl for RBS last year and this year and reserve for northern ballet JAs this year!
  5. Thanks everyone, It's a year 6 place at Leeds.
  6. Just got hold of RBS and my dd has a JA place for september! One very excited little girl!
  7. My dd is currently on the swl for JAs and I've just had a missed call from them on my mobile, I've rung them back but there was only one girl left in the office who could have helped with summer school but not JAs! Don't suppose anyone can help, but do you think they were phoning to offer her a place? Can't think of any other reason but don't want to get hopes up! Guess we'll have to wait until office hours tomorrow to find out.
  8. We've just got short waiting list (same as last year) for my going into year 6 dd, Leeds centre. DD happy but also disappointed.
  9. Hi, how did they assess turnout? Not sure how much my dd has, and I don't think she uses it fully!
  10. Thanks Julie, and a very well done to your dancing son. My son (3 and a half) has just started dancing, wonder where he'll be in a few years!
  11. Thanks elfies mum, fingers crossed a place might come up. DD wants to try for RBS JAs again, although I doubt she'll be successful as I don't think there are many year 6 places.
  12. Just had our letter to say that my dd (10) has been put on the reserve list for JAs. Does anyone have any idea as to how many are put on the reserve list and when it closes? When she was put on RBS short waiting list last year we were told that it would stay open until the October half term, but nothing about closing dates has been put on this one! Hopefully she won't be too upset about not getting a place, think I might wait until the weekend to tell her, when we've got chance to do something fun.
  13. Sorry it was a no, but well done to your dd for getting that far and staying positive.
  14. Hi tomuchtallent, A lot of the dance schools in this country are syllabus based, RAD, ISTD etc and often pupils don't get much chance to do unset work, so in my opinion can get very entrenched in doing the same exercises week in week out, where at an associate class I would think the majority of what they do is unset. Ballet classes here are often 45 minsutes to an hour once a week which is really not enough if a child wants to take dance more seriously, where again associate classes tend to be longer and will have time for conditioning and stretching within the class. Also often the facilities at an associate class are often better, bigger studio, proper barre (not the back of a chair!), pianist rather than recorded music. The children also get to dance with like minded children of a similar ability. Hope this helps
  15. Well done to those with final auditions, my dd also has a yes to the finals and is very excited about it. Does anyone know roughly how many JAs they take?
  16. Hi eloise_please, well done to your dd. Have you considered Northern's open classes?, I wonder if your dd did one of those once a week whether that would get her to the level for associates next year? She must have a lot of potential for them to be wanting her for CAT. Also what about auditioning her for Leeds RBS JAs, I don't know, but I think they take children on potential rather than how advanced they are. Good luck with your decision
  17. My dd auditioned on Fri at 5, she really enjoyed it so fingers crossed, good luck to your dd too.
  18. Hi stardancer, we should find out by Monday 12th and the recalls are on Saturday 17th March.
  19. DD had her JA audition this afternoon and really enjoyed it, thought for one moment she wasn't going to do it when she tripped over outside Northern Ballet and managed to graze both knees and rip huge holes in her ballet tights, luckily I'd put in spares! She also fell down the stairs yesterday! She came out of the audition full of beans, so fingers crossed she'll get a recall.
  20. Hi emsloves2dance, good luck to your DD for Sunday, mine is really excited about her audition. She's been attending the open classes there which she's loved and learnt lots from, so would be really plesed to get an associate place. Thanks for the info about the museum, Ballet0, hopefully I won't need it now as DH thinks he can get home early.
  21. Thanks, think we might do that or go to Costco, should be ok now I've had time to think things through!
  22. Hi, she's 9 (10 in March). Hopefully won't be to bad though as there is a cafe/waiting area there, and if the worst comes to the worst we can always wait in the car!
  23. Hi, we've just got ours 5pm - 5.45pm on Fri 2nd. Just wondering what to do with the other 3 children if dh isn't home early enough from work, especially as we have to be there no later than 4.30pm, was hoping not to take them!
