  1. I have mixed feelings about the casting for Marguerite and Armand. When I was thinking of who I wanted to be cast I was thinking of Nunez/Muntagirov and Cuthbertson/Clarke, however, they are dancing Symphonic Variations. Really pleased with the Yanowsky/Bolle cast though. I’m looking forward to the other mixed bill but I wasn’t keen on Strapless.
  2. I went to see Giselle encore at the cinema this afternoon and having seen all Nunez and muntagirov's shows at the ROH it was good to relive the experience through the screening. I liked seeing more detail but as others have said the constant switching of angle was a little distracting. However this was a mild irritant. These performances have been the highlight of my ballet viewing this year. I love this production and it's my favourite ballet. In fact it's this production got me into watching ballet regularly. After reading some views about mendizabel on screen I was interested to see for myself. The wardrobe malfunction was unfortunate and there was a little wobble but apart from that I liked her Myrtha. I also thought the make up, although heavy, was fine. I really hope the Royal Opera House release this in some format. I'm really glad they are thinking about online/on-demand options. They must have so much content and it's hopefully a way to get more people interested in ballet.
  3. Enjoyed seeing tonight's cast. To be honest I wasn't looking forward to it as I wasn't in the mood but I was totally engrossed. Personally I think act 2 could do with a little bit more snipping. Even though had an enjoyable evening there's something about it that doesn't make me want to see it more than once. The only reason I'm going again is to see the third cast. Does anyone know why the percussion are sectioned off from the rest of the orchestra?
  4. I loved tonight's performance and am heartbroken it's Nunez and Muntagirov's last performance of this run. I was in the theatre and had quite the opposite experience to Swiss Ballet Fan. Nunez and Muntagirov are a terrific partnership in my opinion and it was far from flat. In fact I would go so far as to say that it was the most enjoyable performance of Giselle I've seen. For me Nunez and Muntagirov are not only terrific dancers but their acting and chemistry meant I believed in them. I really think this partnership should be nurtured and hope to see them dancing much more together. Bring on Frankenstein.
  5. Just seen another terrific Giselle with Nunez and Muntagirov. They really are magical together. I really hope there's a DVD in the offing. I also think Naghdi needs to be cast as Giselle. Another wonderfully expressive dancer.
  6. I saw the first act of Soares and Takada. I enjoyed her dancing but overall it left me cold. This may have has something to do with the awful view I had - cheap seat balcony row C. Saw Osipova and Golding tonight. I could admire the dancing but I wasn't moved. Personally I didn't think they had any connection. However this maybe due to seeing two very emotional Giselles with Nunez and Muntagirov. The highlight for me was seeing Nunez as Myrtha. A tremendous queen of the wilis.
  7. I also saw Nunez/muntagirov last night. I had seen Lamb earlier in the run and was surprised how much I liked her portrayal so when I saw a good standing ticket available I snapped it up. Another reason I wanted a ticket was to see Nunez as Myrthe. So I brought the ticket and then saw the cast change. I was overjoyed as I have been longing to see them dance together in Giselle since casting was announced. I've enjoyed seeing them dance together in nutcracker and Tchaikovsky pas de deux earlier in the season so I had high expectations and they were surpassed. I really do think they make a great partnership. In act 1 Nunez's mad scene was so moving but act 2 was very special indeed. I was utterly entranced by their beautiful dancing and the love between Giselle and Albrecht. I am so glad I've booked for all of their performances.
  8. I've always liked the Royal Ballet's production but this was my first time seeing it post Christmas and I wondered if I would enjoy as much as I had done in previous years. I needn't have worried as I've seen two absolutely cracking performances in the last 24 hours. Both Claras (O'Sullvan and Hayward) and Sugar Plum Fairies (Nunez and Kaneko) were outstanding. The pas de deux between Vadim and Nunez was particularly beautiful and I'm looking forward even more to seeing them in Giselle. Heap and Cowley were very impressive in the Arabian dance. I especially wanted to mention James Hay who I thought was a terrific Hans-Peter.
  9. Personally I thought tonight's performance was a mixed bag. A wonderful portrayal of Juliet by Marianela Nunez and she was truly heartbreaking in Act 3. I also enjoyed Valentino Zuchetti as Mercurio and Eric Underwood as Tybalt. However, as Romeo, I felt that Thiago Soares lacked power and seemed to struggle with some of the choreography. To be honest I have felt for some time that their on stage partnership is uneven with Nunez being on a different level with her dancing.
  10. It's a shame as I was hoping to see him as Romeo. I wish him all the best in whatever he moves on to do. I wonder who'll replace him as a principal.
  11. Love BRB so looking forward to seeing Swan Lake and the triple bill. Do other companies have this production of Swan Lake, I'm not sure if I've seen it before?
  12. Personally I'm really pleased with the casting. Very much looking forward to seeing Nunez/Osipova/Heap in Carmen. Delighted to see Nunez/Muntagirov and Osipova/Mcrae for Tchaikovsky pas de deux. Can't wait for Two Pigeons. I've only seen it once and loved it. I actually like Raven Girl so I'll be seeing that too. I'm also surprised that Salenko has been brought in for three different productions. Would have preferred to have seen James Hay with Hayward in Romeo and Juliet but again there are a number of casts I want to see. Just need to work out now how I'm going to pay for it all.
  13. I love reading the comments on this forum and thought it was about time I started contributing. I have seen three performances in this run so far and have enjoyed each of them. Firstly, I saw Muntagirov and Morera. I thought they made a lovely partnership. Morera was fabulous as Lise and so fleet of foot. Muntagirov was equally wonderful as Colas. Will Tuckett as Widow Simone was excellent as usual on opening night and I also appreciated Paul Kay as Alain. Then I saw Marquez and Campbell. Both were brilliant and seem to have good chemistry on stage. This was followed by Nunez and Acosta. Personally, I think Nunez was magnificent as Lise on Wednesday. She seemed to be having real fun out there. To me she is the perfect Lise and brought so much warmth to role. I just hope I can see her again this week. I like the Acosta/Nunez partnership but agree with a previous comment about Acosta looking a little tired that night.
