  1. There was a thread on this a couple of years ago. Don't know if the information is current enough to help: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/2356-paris-opera-ballet-school-summer-intensive/?hl=%2Bparis+%2Bopera+%2Bballet+%2Bsummer+%2Bintensive
  2. Professional dancer Andrei Iliescu joins The Chelmsford Ballet Company’s Sleeping Beauty The Chelmsford Ballet Company’s upcoming production of The Sleeping Beauty at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford, will see professional dancer Andrei Iliescu join the much-loved company as Prince Florimund. Iliescu was born in Romania, where he began dancing at the National College of Arts. He competed in the prestigious Prix de Lausanne competition in Switzerland and was consequently awarded a full scholarship to attend Central School of Ballet in London. During his training Iliescu worked with renowned choreographers such as Christopher Marney of Sir Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Sharon Watson of Phoenix Dance Theatre and Christopher Hampson of Scottish Ballet; Chelmsford audiences will have seen Iliescu perform in Ballet Central’s 2015 graduation tour. Adding further grandeur and talent to the company, Iliescu recently made his West End debut in celebrated choreographer Marney’s critically acclaimed production of McQueen The Play. Marney is one of the company’s patrons, alongside The Marchioness of Londonderry (Doreen Wells of the Royal Ballet). As a fantastic introduction to ballet, the Company’s 2016 production of The Sleeping Beauty in particular is ideal for those new to the art form, however familiar with the classic fairytale The Sleeping Beauty. This production will delight audiences of all ages, with familiar music framing the family favourite. The programme runs from 16–19 March at the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford. For tickets contact the box office on 01245 606505 or visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/sleeping-beauty www.thechelmsfordballetcompany.co.uk --Ends— About The Chelmsford Ballet Company In 1947, Joan Weston created the Broomfield YMCA Ballet Company in order to give the more senior students at her existing dance school the opportunity to learn and perform to the public. It was after their 1949 performance of ‘Coppélia’ at the Shire Hall that the then Mayor of Chelmsford suggested the name ‘The Chelmsford Ballet Company’, and with a small committee the Company was born. Since 1949, the Ballet Company has staged a full-scale production every year. Initially a part of the Arts Festival, and then the Cathedral Fringe Festival, they occur today as an annual event in their own right. Today the Company is led by Artistic Director Annette Potter, who is a former dancing member. Annette danced many leading roles with the company before moving on to teaching and choreography. The Ballet Company is a way for skilled dancers from across the area to perform together and to showcase their considerable talents to appreciative and receptive audiences. Theatre-goers are constantly ‘thrilled’ with the productions, which always maintain the high standards set by Joan Weston. It has become a well-loved cornerstone of Chelmsford’s cultural calendar. The Chelmsford Ballet Company is “an amateur Company which sets professional standards for all its work, involving professionals in its productions, courses and other teaching and workshop opportunities”. The standards are such that both junior (aged 10 and Standard/Grade 2 or above) and senior (over 14) dancers must audition to become members and again each year to perform in any production. These high standards are maintained through the monthly Company classes, where the dancers are able to meet and take a class with experienced and distinguished teachers. In the 1960's a Scholarship Fund was created to help young dancers moving to professional training.
  3. Hello dsallaboutballet and welcome to the Forum! It would help if you could let us know a bit more about what you are seeking for your son, as highlighted by Jane in the previous post. The Royal Ballet School is mentioned in many threads so it could well be worth your while using our search facility too. Good luck to your son and do let us know how he gets on.

  5. I know a young lady who had a severe turn in her eye. She had an operation when she was 7 but it did not really correct it. Of course, we never noticed it and had never realised how badly it had affected her. In the end she went to the doctor as a young adult and the doctor agreed that it was affecting her mental health and she was referred for treatment on the national health. What followed is a long and boring story but eventually she had the operation and her outlook on life and confidence changed dramatically, virtually overnight. I agree with everyone else that he may be suffering from depression, exacerbated by the tooth situation.

  11. Hello Ezmwildflower and welcome to the Forum! I hope we will hear more from you.
  12. Does Amazon check the validity of their market place sellers? I ordered an item which should have arrived, at the latest, last Thursday. Nothing has arrived. Tracking just shows "dispatched". I filled in the "contact seller" form only to get an automated response from Amazon saying that the seller has withdrawn from the market place. I've just wasted an hour of my life searching through the help!!! Checked up on the seller's feedback. Loads of messages put on today saying that items have not arrived. Looks as though it was a scam!!! Hence my original question. Fortunately it was not a huge sum of money but I am currently a very unhappy bunny!
  13. My friend and I have booked for the Sadler's Wells week. This does not fill me with hope. Should we book our train tickets when we can or should we wait. Fortunately only a matinee so only train fare and not hotel involved.
  14. Knaresborough is much more historic than Harrogate (It's near neighbour) and, to my mind, much more interesting. But if you go to either York or Harrogate then Betty's Tea Rooms is an absolute must! I agree Leeds is great for shopping. Buxton, in the Peak District, is absolutely gorgeous. Will you be hiring a car or relying on public transport Arizona?
  15. Hello Chloe, as your questions are similar to those you asked on an earlier thread, I have merged them. Our members gave some great advice that is still valid. I think your ambition is fine but you need to build up slowly. Perhaps you should try getting teaching work at an established school to build up your practical experience and be able to build up your CV. Don't forget you will need to get a CRB certificate before you can begin your teaching work.
  16. Hello orze, is that with a qualified instructor or just another driver who has passed their test? Although I did an intensive course, that consisted of about 12 hours driving and 12 hours observing and I had done 2x2hr driving lessons before I went to Llandudno. So I guess my total driving log was 18 hours (although I had had driving lessons many years earlier). What frightens me though is that you could pass your driving test, not drive for 20 years and then still get behind the wheel of a car! What I noticed most between my attempts (around 16 years) was how much more traffic there was and, indeed, how differently people drove. When I had had lessons as a youngster I was taught to slow down and come down a gear when approaching traffic lights. When I went on the course that is not taught now - you stay at the same speed and judge whether you are easily able to stop if the lights start changing while you are approaching (while not going through against the lights of course).
  17. Thanks for the feedback Quintus. I wasn't able to catch any of this yesterday.

  21. As if 2016 hasn't got off to a tragic enough start, I have just learned that Paul Kantner and Signe Anderson, who was the original singer with Jefferson Airplane, passed away on the same day (28th January). Sincere condolences to their families and friends. Jefferson Airplane were hugely influential in the 70s and eventually transmogrified into Jefferson Starship. http://www.sfgate.com/music/article/Jefferson-Airplane-s-Paul-Kantner-dies-at-74-6791483.php http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/signe-anderson-original-jefferson-airplane-singer-dead-at-74-20160131
  22. I was at the matinee yesterday and was just swept away by the whole performance. I had particularly enjoyed Francesca Hayward in Rhapsody when I saw the matinee two weeks ago but somehow, for me, yesterday afternoon took Rhapsody to another level. All the cast were terrific and I thought James Hay was just glorious. He and Francesca moved me to tears in that beautiful duet. I have come to the conclusion that I prefer their quieter interpretation. Francesca, in particular, made the steps look so easy and effortless. Basically Rhapsody was a total joy yesterday! My main reason for getting a last minute ticket yesterday was to see fellow-Scouser Matthew Ball in Two Pigeons. Goodness me what a terrific performance and wonderful cast it was. Beatriz Stix-Brunell was a joy to watch as the Young Girl; she looked rather sassy and impetuous in her interpretation in Act 1 which made her grief at the start of Act 2 all the more believable. Matthew Ball showed what a very special talent he has. He was an intense Young Man in Act 1 and so utterly full of remorse when he came home that my heart bled for him. I loved Claire Calvert as the gypsy. Yet again I was reduced to a pile of mush. I must say as a non-regular RB-goer, I have mostly seen younger company members in my last few visits and oh boy are they proving that the RB is chock full of young talent worth seeing! I do hope all the youngsters are nurtured because they are the stars, for me, not of the future but NOW!
