  1. Nice to meet you too, Cathy, and LTD. I believe that the PDD does begin with a solo violin and a solo cello. I read that the haunting music at the end of that scene uses a Greek lure, and not a flute as I had originally thought. A great performance this afternoon. I absolutely love Hugo Chacon in the Hilarion role: great dancing, acting (lots of interesting little touches) and incredible charisma.
  2. I've just left Euston and we're going on some sort of loop (presumably, that relates to what you're referring to).
  3. Can someone find out about this. I'm not on Twitter and can't see an email address on the company's website.
  4. Yes, I do mean that one. I agree that it seems to be a glitch at BRB's end. I would like to know as I'm keen to book.
  5. Thanks for the information, Bluebird. The only thing is that one of the cast lists is incomplete on my device.
  6. Nothing against Cirio, but I think that Chacon, who danced the role when it was first created, should have been filmed when company dancer Corrales became unavailable. Sarahushi is very good but can't quite match Chacon in menace and stage presence. Sorry to hear that Corrales is injured. He's not the only one, sadly, and it's still early in the season.
  7. Does anyone know why he has not been cast in anything this autumn (other than in Giselle at Sadler's Wells)? Is he injured? Is he leaving?
  8. Yes, I had what turned into an argument and then a complaint (by me) at the Coliseum a few years ago after I pointed out to a programme seller that when you are asking people to pay £6 for a programme it really should come with the cast list without you having to ask for it. I'm sorry to say that there are rather a lot of people working in customer facing roles in theatres who appear to be poorly trained / supervised and / or to have little concept of customer service.
  9. Presumably, it's because the theatre and / or company wants people to buy programmes. The Coliseum is notorious for hiding away cast sheets but I have no compunction in asking for one and telling other people that they are available without buying a programme. I actually do buy programmes but I sometimes see several performances of a production or bill and I'm obviously not going to buy a programme at every performance.
  10. Nosing around the internet it looks as if Matthew Dingman, Celine Gittens and Miki Mizutani are cast in Baiser.
  11. Does anyone know anything about the casting of this triple bill? In particular, does anyone know who will be featuring in Le Baiser de la Fee?
  12. It was a great atmosphere in the House last night. Jenna Roberts and Tyrone Singleton were the standout dancers in Concerto for me. It's a great piece; I wish that it were performed more often. It was hard to believe that Baiser was a MacMillan ballet, although it did contain a few of the kind of lifts which we are accustomed to seeing in his more dramatic ballets such as Manon and R&J. There was some interesting choreography in there including some rather Ashtonian movements. I wasn't keen on the staging or the sets. I don't know whether the longish section for the Young Man and the Fairy (which involved some rather complex lifts) in front of the curtain appeared in the original but I felt that it looked a bit awkward in such a narrow space. I thought that the Fairy's outfit was a bit too Disney-esque but perhaps I expected to see something more along the lines of the costume worn in La Sylphide which seems to me a rather similar story. Elite Syncopations is a jolly, colourful piece but I'm not sure that I'd want to see it repeatedly. Yasmine Nahgdi was splendid in this and Itziar Mendezebal also shone in her role. Precious Adams gave a very assured performance in her solo so well done to her.
  13. I think that it's interesting to compare the expectations of vocational upper schools with those of universities who are (subject to rare exceptions) taking 18 year olds. Universities have personal tutors, a health service and a student counselling service. Student unions often run additional support services and I think that there are nightlines at most universities. Most students are able to live in university halls of residence (many catered) for the first year and the halls frequently have some sort of resident pastoral advisor. At my son's university (and I don't suppose that it is unique in organising this) international students arrive before the start of the academic year for a week's induction. IMO, upper schools should be offering at least this level of support as they are taking 16 year olds plus there are additional challenges for young people training for an elite (and very competitive) profession with a high rate of attrition and the ever present risk of injury. I wonder whether there is still a prevailing attitude of 'sink or swim' or 'survival of the fittest'.
  14. In a very recent interview with Yasmine Naghdi, newly appointed principal at the Royal Ballet, she says that she nearly gave up ballet at 16 because a teacher (at the Royal Ballet School) kept telling her that she was no good.
  15. I have N40 in the Amphitheatre for sale. Face value is £14. PM me if interested.
  16. I agree about Liam Riddick. He certainly stood out for me when I saw the company for the first time earlier this year.
  17. I believe that she danced Gulnare in one performance in Japan in the summer.
  18. Are you planning to see a ballet performance at La Fenice, Penelope? On a day trip to Venice this summer I passed the theatre but did not have time to look round.
  19. Brilliant. Varied, absorbing, original and fun. I love the whole concept of the company: Carlos wants to showcase the talent of Cuban dancers, celebrate Cuban culture and revive forgotten Cuban works one of which was the first piece in the programme, an incredible duet for two men based on the story of the famous French tightrope walker Blondin. I don't know how many people came to see Carlos himself - he performed a short duet with the very charismatic Martina Ortega - but he is clear that this company is not a vehicle for him and this was very evident in the way that he conducted himself at the curtain calls. The dancers were wonderful and the company is well worth seeing but you will be disappointed if you are expecting an evening of 'Latin' music and dancing.
