  1. I think the casting opportunities offered to Ms Hayward during the Season will be really interesting - culminating I hope in Mayerling where I hope to see her cast either as Stephanie or maybe even Mary Vetsera, and then Titania! I feel these are roles just waiting for her but I'd be interested to hear what others think?
  2. Well, the Patron’s booking has opened and still no casting details for Period One so it looks like all the reassurances weren’t worth a can of beans – that is unless Patrons have been briefed privately. Current programming is exciting and wide-ranging but the present casting disorder (last minute cancellation of the third Frankenstein cast, still no announcement re Invitation though the casting is said to have been agreed, and the continuing delays in announcing the Period One casts) does seem to suggest that the implications are not been properly thought through and that management is struggling to keep up! Hopefully this is not a symptom of a deeper-rooted failure in forward planning. The decision not to replace retiring Principals for example is bold, particularly when the current breadth of programming is extending so rapidly, but does seem to rely heavily on the next generation of dancers coming through. It looks like the next Season will be the proof of that particular pudding - which makes the current lack of information all the more frustrating!
  3. The Autumn period is exciting but looks ambitious with three new works (all under the aegis of Wayne McGregor), plus the revival of Anastasia, to say nothing of Fille and Nutcracker all competing for resources including rehearsal time. This against a background of the decision to reduce the casts for Frankenstein from three to two for undisclosed reasons. Is there a danger that the Company (and its dancers) might be becoming over-stretched?
  4. Well they're cutting it very fine. The bank holiday weekend starts after tomorrow and then it's Patron's Day! Is there any sign of life out there?
  5. Bluebird - Again my thanks. I was going by the on-line booking dates as shown on the ROH website and I see now that they don't extend to Patrons. We live and learn!
  6. To FLOSS & capybara - thank you both. That's helpful. I guess that means by the 1st of June at the latest then!
  7. Can I just say that I for one was heartily glad when the Moderators finally got round to closing the original thread. It was becoming repetitive, unhelpful and increasingly unpleasant. If there is any new and verified information about the Company, the key players and their futures then I certainly look forward to hearing it. Meanwhile the Moderators made the right call and we should support them. It's time to move on.
  8. All the discussion is of course interesting but please does anyone know when we're actually going to get details of the Autumn casting? Will it be contained within the April House Magazine or, like last year, will it be deferred to a later date? Since most of the performing arts organisations are booking well into 2017 and one can't afford to hang around waiting, my diary for Period One is already getting very full!
  9. I saw Stefan Herheim's dreadful production of Sicilian Vespers - the final choreography was ludicrous. That must have been the final insult. The tragedy was that Mr Kobborg was developing an interest and ability in choreography which seemed to be stopped dead in its tracks. Of course his achievements as AD in Budapest have been remarkable. I don't know whether he has found time to continue to develop his choreographic skills in that post but if he were to re-focus wholly on choreography at some stage I for one would not be unhappy. I would just make the point that the Royal Ballet has a considerable history regarding dancers who turn their skills to artistic administration before moving on to become world class choreographers. And Mr O'Hare is making aspiring choreographers a priority! Whatever happens next in Budapest, it does seem that his tenure there has turned sour. I would like him to know that he is warmly remembered back here and would be welcomed with open arms if he chose to return.
  10. I agree. My only interest is in whether this might be an opportunity for the Royal Ballet to re-build bridges - perhaps with an invitation to revive his production of La Sylphide?
  11. As incomprehensible as his departure from the Royal Ballet? He has so much to offer - it would be good to see him back in this country is some role. Also Ms Cojocaru has said in the past that where he goes she will follow. Hopefully this might mean we see more, not less of her. Is it too much to hope that Mr O'Hare is picking up the phone to check out the possibilities!
  12. I guess you'll be disappointed by the lack of response to your cri de coeur - I sympathise coz I am desperate to get hold of a copy of Birtwhistle's Gawain and of Darcey Bussell's farewell performance - both of which I failed to record at the time! The good news is that Opus Arte have said (check their facebook) that they will be releasing Metamorphosis: Titian but that it has not as yet been scheduled. If they do eventually release it, I'd be surprised if the Imagine documentary is not included in the package so hopefully there is light on the horizon. Meanwhile, good luck with your search. I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful.
