Does anyone have experience of obtaining a place at upper school from the reserve lists? Is there likely to be much movement from these lists now?

Yes it's very exciting! The school seems to be very nurturing - both dd and I thought it had a lovely ' feel' to it. Impressed with the accommodation too

Yes my dd is so excited - but nervous too regarding living away from home - she's only 16 but quite mature/fairly sensible. Some housekeeping and cooking lessons after GCSE's are in order I think ????????????. Yes I wondered that too - expect it will be soon

Natasha Oughtred, Demelza & Xander Parrish come from the Hull/East Yorkshire area too. Anthony Sewell trained at a Hull ballet school I believe.

Hi there. My daughter has always been on 25 th centile for weight and 75 th for height. She is ' long and lean' but when she was 11 I noticed she looked particularly 'gangly'. Has your daughter grown a lot in height recently? I was worried that my DD didn't eat enough although she ate really healthily and now can't fill her up!! She will be 13 in October and over the last few months she has hit puberty and is now really filling out and becoming more shapely. She is still tall and slim. I think as mums of DD's we do worry about eating/disorders but agree that not giving this a lot of attention is the best approach and just to encourage a healthy diet for their needs and like other posts have said, to substitute/enhance their diet to mert their needs.

Hi. When my DD was a JA her local dance wear shop made her national skirt. Sorry can't remember how much it cost to make but think it was in the region of £20. Hope this helps :-)

Hi Robin64. Like you I worry that DD will be too tall for classical ballet career. She is 12 and already 5ft5in (non DD is 14 and 5ft8in) with size 6 feet. I'm 5ft7in and DH 6ft1in so she isn't going to be short! Having said that she loves ballet but is also developing a love for modern/contemporary - she did a year as a JA with RBS and is JA at Northern Ballet and is moving into intermediates at Northern in September in addition to being selected for RBS summer school so she must have something they are looking for. The way I look at it, we are on a journey and who knows what the future holds. As long as she is happy and enjoying what she does then we will just carry on and enjoy all the new experiences. She loves performing (drama queen!) and is such a hard worker - I've noticed that a lot of the skills/discipline required for dance training has also provided her with lots of other opportunities at school too. So pleased your daughter has decided to carry on with her dancing!

Hi we've paid £550 for RBS summer school again for 6 nights. Although it seems quite a lot of money I think that is quite good value given that DD is boarding, so includes food and all the expert dance tuition, evening social activities etc

We used to say it was being double jointed! My mum could also do it so my DD obviously inherited it from her although my mum was not a dancer or sporty.

My DD also has clicky hips no pain. She is very flexible. She also does a horrible thing with some of her fingers where she can keep the whole finger straight but bend the end of the finger at the last joint. Makes me cringe!

Oops. Sorry not very good with technology! Dancing daisy - don't know the teacher or how many offered places. NB are introducing intermediate foundation associates on Sundays from September in addition to intermediates and juniors. Current JA's due to move up are being assessed on 1-6-12 after initial assessment where they were given feedback on 'corrections' to be made and a conditional offer for associates next year. They will then find out whether they are inters or inter foundation. Hope this makes sense and of help :-)

R is for rest which is so important when dancing the amount of hours our DK's do per week on top of their academic studies, growth spurts etc DK's - dancing kids??

Aim high!! Lol. I think you are indeed inspiring - I've been teasing my DD that I'm going to start the adult ballet class at her local school - she's mortified!! Oh well... ( maybe she's worried i'll outshine her although that's highly improbable tee hee ) )

In her talk prior to my DD audition at Tring, Rachel Rist told the children that their parents were 90% to 'blame' for their physical attributes and that the other 10% was down to the children's dance ability and audition!

Hi balletmumfor2. Thank you for info. DD is 12 yrs. we're keen to get tickets booked as we know demand will be high due to Olympics. If arrival times are staggered that might ease congestion!
