  1. Past hour
  2. A belated welcome to the Forum @TiaBallerina.
  3. Anastasia Smirnova (rising star and first soloist at Mikhailovsky) performed at Segerstrom Arts in California and Montana with Julian Mackay both in Summer 2023 without any opposition that I heard. So it was reasonable to assume this would be ok. It’s a gala to inspire young dancers. It’s brave of YAGP to try to break the barriers. I’m sure YAGP and the Mariinsky dancers knew the risks they were taking. Classical music doesn’t seem to suffer from these same barriers. I see many Russian based performers continuing to tour with European orchestras. I am guessing that’s because the musicians have long term contracts with Western music organisations (Warner, Sony, etc). It’s always about money 🙄
  4. The program for Stuttgart Ballet's 2024/25 season will be announced on Friday, May 17, 2024. (I just received the invitation for the evening before...)
  5. Ex-RB-dancer and Best Swan Ever Mr. Adam Cooper will continue to work at the Gärtnerplatztheater at Munich, next season he will direct "The Pirates of Penzance", also with his choreography https://www.gaertnerplatztheater.de/de/produktionen/die-piraten-von-penzance.html?m=489
  6. Today
  7. Hamburg Ballet, casting for Anna Karenina with guest ballerina Olga Smirnova: Anna Karenina: Anna Laudere (26., 27.4.), Olga Smirnova (8., 10.5.) Alexei Karenin: debuts for Matias Oberlin (26., 27.4.) and Christopher Evans (8., 10.5.) Vronsky: Alexandr Trusch (26., 27.4.), Jacopo Bellussi ((8., 10.5.)
  8. While it must be disappointing for the artists to find out like this at the last minute there is a moral dilemma for theatres when considering inviting performers from Russia. The ROH cancelled the Bolshoi’s tour here after the Ukraine war broke out.
  9. The name is 'Tiler' ... There is a Tyler in the current NYCB company - but that is Tyler Angle - who has sometimes partnered Tiler.
  10. It's a shame. They flew over to NY only to learn last minute that their performance had been cancelled by the Koch Theatre (not by YAGP). It's either lack of communication between YAGP and the Koch theatre, or ignorance and then a sudden shock by Koch when they were criticized. From Maria Khoreva's IG account: "...Art will always find a way to human soul." ❤️❤️❤️
  11. Another group of photos and a further clip from Rhapsody! What an amazing experience for the four RBS students and all the others! 🩰 https://www.instagram.com/emilegooding/p/C56R5DTInh1/?hl=en Hope your DD had a wonderful time @Birdy
  12. Thoroughly enjoyed the Wed evening cast. It was the 1st time I had seen this production live - rather than at a live streaming ( Lauren Cuthbertson & William Bracewell) - so was adjusting to the different view point - up in the amphitheatre with an excellent view of the safety light behind the rocks … oh and the splendid swan corps -de-ballet. I found Yasmin Naghdi’s Odile utterly mesmerising - that balance, those fouettés and the exquisite nastiness under a beautiful mask anll of which helped me appreciate her Odette even more in Act 4. I have booked again for the June run ( Claire Calvert and Nicol Edmonds) so look forward to being able to see or notice different interpretations then .
  13. A friend of my DD got a place in WL (age 12/13, boy)
  14. There hasn't been any WL offers for lower school yet? age 10/11?
  15. I have SCS D47 & D48 for sale for RB Swan Lake 1pm (Naghdi/Ball) on Sat 20 April. £14 each. Please pm and leave a message here if interested.
  16. Thank you so much, yes makes sense what you are saying re waiting list. Keeping our fingers crossed for her. She was very happy she got put on the waiting list as she thought she would get a no.
  17. Just wanted to take a moment and say thank you for all your posts. I was asking who to see after Marianela and now have tickets for Yasmine’s Swan tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. If her calculated perfection is anywhere near Lopatkina or Zakharova (the two most perfect Odettes in my years of watching ballet), I am all for it! Cannot wait.
  18. Oh yes! Marcia Rutherford became a big star in « Dance for Poppa”. And I remember really wanting to be Mariella living in a mansion flat with a famous ballerina mother and critic father and meals appearing ready-made from the kitchen downstairs. In fact I would still quite like that! Thanks for the reminder Sophoife!
  19. …… because they need to ‘top up’ the classical list? I think this has happened before. Of the ?66 nominations this year, I have heard of only 42 and, in recent years, have seen less than half of those in action. There are a few multiple entries, among them the impressive Tyler Peck. However, I do hope that the Best Dancer top slots will be awarded to artists who have contributed substantially in the UK throughout the year rather than on a ‘flying visit’.
  20. Wonderful! I have just dug out my ancient book copy to re-read, what a co-incidence! 🩰
