Coated
Here is to the kindness of box office staff and bus drivers. I lost my purse on the way to see Pericles at the Sam Wanamaker theatre, leaving me somewhat stranded on the south bank with no money to get back home. The box office staff couldn't exchange my ticket for cash if it resold (they'd already had a few enquiries for the sold out performance) but kindly offered to refund it without me needing to wait and see whether it sells so I could start the track back home to report the card. I walked back to Waterloo bridge to see whether a bus driver would let me on without a ticket, and lucked out - it was the same driver who drove the bus I took to get down to the south bank an hour and a half earlier and he very kindly let me get on the bus without a penny to my name. Imagine my relief at not having to walk 2+ hrs to get back home. Chocolates for the bus station down my road will be forthcoming. Whilst this wasn't my preferred way of spending a Sunday evening, it was made so much better by people being kind

Anon2
We have loads of red admiral butterflies in our garden this year. Normal summers see two or three together but this year there are easily 20 plus on fence with others flying around.
Fiz
Here's to the nurses at the Breakspear Hospital who have seen me through 11 months of allergy treatment, our safe journeys to and from it, my returning health and nearly two months off before I have to go back for retesting! I'm so grateful.
Petunia
Hooray! I've finished organising EVERYTHING for my trip to Southampton and London in October... tickets for ENB, Sadler's Wells and RB, flights, trains (what a major hassle) and hotels. So much work for 4 days of fun and now I'll be worried about delays and other unforeseen circumstances...! I'm always looking forward to come to London, even for a short stay. My must-do list is getting longer and longer.

Yorkshire Pud
I have to give a big thumbs up to the Brownlee brothers, who very kindly let us (and by us I mean my friend) interrupt their tea and scones this morning to have their photo taken with my friend's baby granddaughter. ????
Quintus
For anyone passing through Paris, and particularly anyone with fond memories of ENB's 'Broken Wings', I highly recommend the Mexique exhibition at the Grand Palais. There are 5 Frida Kahlo works on display, including the iconic 'The Two Fridas' as well as many Diego Riveras. It's a big exhibition with many, many other fascinating artists - Sequieros, Izquierdo, Merida etc. It's a real treat and needs a couple of hours at least to appreciate. As an added bonus, if you've come by Eurostar you can get 2 for 1 entrance by showing your ticket.
Petunia
My Mini Trip Report I’m back home and I still feel a bit drunk. I’ve seen and done so much in such a short time! Although the beginning of the journey was a bit bumpy when the train from Gatwick Airport to Clapham Junction stopped at East Croydon and didn’t go further, so we all had to wait for the next one, and we missed our connection to Southampton, but after that everything went smoothly enough. We had a lovely dinner at The Vestry and after that the highlight of the day: ENB’s Giselle at the Mayflower Theatre! I felt quite drained after that but we had very comfy beds in the B&B. Next morning we left early for London (I can sleep everywhere as long as it moves) and stayed in Bloomsbury for two nights. Best things in London this time: Treasures of the British LibrarySt Bartholomew-the-Great and the little café Sidi Larbi Chekaoui’s “Fractus” at Sadler’s WellsThe “Undressed” exhibition at the V&A The “Beyond Caravaggio” exhibition at the National Gallery “Anastasia” Tea and Scones everywhere A real Scotch Egg from Borough Market, and a Steak-and-Ale Pie The new Switch House at the Tate Modern The weather which was much warmer and sunnier than at home, and the trees much greener, still. Everybody was so nice. Unfortunately I haven’t met any Balletco’ers this time but I hope I’ll be back in Spring for Mayerling!

Petunia
Fabulous it was, indeed! But I never felt rushed, even if the tempo in London is much speedier than in Berlin.
alison
Oh dear, Petunia. Missing connections at Clapham Junction is no fun on the Southampton line: I made two trips down that line over the summer, and if you miss the through train you have to do stupid things like getting another train and changing at Woking because the next "fast" service doesn't call at CJ at all, but the "fast" service after that calls at CJ but not Woking ... So if things are seriously wrong with the trains it can be really really inconvenient!

Huddsballetmum
It was lovely, having booked a holiday to Crete to celebrate a big birthday (I am not revealing which one!!) to walk into our hotel room to find a lovely bottle of red wine and a message from the hotel wishing me the happiest of birthdays. Such a lovely and unexpected surprise.
Jacqueline
Having been thwarted by low cloud last night, I woke up this morning to see the rather wonderful super moon, shining bright and low in the sky. I took a moment to just stand and stare. Beautiful.

Melody
It was amazingly huge when I saw it low in the sky a couple of evenings ago. That was a day or two before the full moon, but still wonderfully impressive. I've loved some of the photos on Facebook showing the moon apparently balancing over basketball hoops or church spires. Jacqueline
For anyone who likes this sort of thing, at the moment, even with moderate light pollution, there is an incredibly clear, bright crescent moon in the western sky, with Mars faint but visible to the left of the moon and an extra bright Venus low down in the sky to the right. Stunningly clear, starry night and all visible to the naked eye. Amazing! Apparently, Jupiter will be visible in the eastern sky around dawn tomorrow.

I might have to have a look for Jupiter tomorrow. Thanks x

Jacqueline
Just been on the weekly supermarket run. Was in the pie aisle - other delicacies are available - and overheard a young child sitting in a trolley seat and giving his mother chapter and verse about pies and who likes what in their family. Granny likes chicken, uncle likes steak etc. The little lad certainly knew his pie likes and dislikes and he was quite cute about it, not in any way precocious or annoying. For some reason, his mother was determined that he say the word cucumber. I don't know what her frame of reference was but she kept saying to him Say cucumber, say cucumber. In the end, he broke off from his pie run down and said cucumber, clearly and without difficulty but in a tone that suggested he had no idea why she wanted him to say it, but he would do so if it would stop her asking, when he was trying to discuss something else. She said something like clever boy and I am sure he rolled his eyes!

Huddsballetmum
Laughter - definitely the best medicine! Yesterday was officially "blue Monday" and boy did it feel like it until last night. Driving home from dance class (where else would I be going) with my DD we got a fit of the giggles over something silly and ended up laughing all the way home from Leeds (40 min drive). It was such a pick me up after a tough day and reminded me that the simple things in life, spending fun time with a loved one, are absolutely the best. Therefore I wish you all a day of laughter and happiness
theother51
On the other hand yesterday was a very good day for me (although my purse is £800 lighter). I successfully managed to get very good, if expensive tickets for Hamiton.

Jan McNulty
I really hope it's not going to be a letdown ... (but boy it's a shame American in Paris hasn't generated the same sort of buzz) Especially as the tickets for AiP are only about a third of the price and there are some wonderful performers in it. I've got my ticket booked for AiP!

theother51
I would like to see American in Paris as I love the music but it would only be of interest to me, my husband and my daughter. My son would not enjoy it whereas he is (along with my daughter) totally obsessed with Hamilton. it is something very new and different, groundbreaking within theatre and we "want to be in the room where it happens" to coin the lyrics. American in Paris is probably a lot more specialist interest whereas Hamilton is appealing to a new generation of theatre goers. So instead of going on holiday next year, and in lieu of birthday presents for all of us, this is what, we as a family have decided to go and see. If I had unlimited funds I think Dreamgirls would also be on my list of want to see. Edited January 20, 2017 by theother51
Coated
I've just closed my eyes (metaphorically speaking), ignored fiscally responsible behaviour and booked lovely tickets for when I'm visiting a friend in Vienna. 1 ballet, two operas and a concert at the Musikverein. Utter bliss and it cheered me up no end. Just missed their Onegin time wise, but I think I will cope with the disappointment and return another year
zxDaveM
I must confess, that I really like the latest ad for Nationwide Building Society (the one with the poem about joining together to make it a better world for everyone. not just the few)
