Not near me, I don't think. I am in North London so the three cinemas who usually show live broadcasts aren't taking the Bolshoi for some reason. But I will keep checking as new cinemas are added. Tickets would certainly be cheaper.

Well I received another reply which although it doesn't address the issue, at least confirms the transmission of Elizabeth

See below

Thank you for taking the trouble to contact us in regards to any forthcoming ballets.

After being in contact with the Sky Arts Team, they are not aware of any announcement in the future. Sky Arts are always on the look-out for new ballet material and do have a very special production coming up on 15 February at 8pm. They are broadcasting the ballet ‘Elizabeth’, filmed at the Royal Opera House Linbury Studio, and starring Carlos Acosta in his final role.

Many thanks for your continued support of Sky.

Well here's a thing!  I never thought I had access to Sky Arts till my niece told me that it is included in the Entertainment Package on a "Now TV" box.  Yes you have to pay monthly for the package (£6.99) but it is not a contract and you can cancel at any time.

I have just started a 14-day free trial and am just about to watch Bolshoi Unseen DonQ.

The Now TV box, which I bought when they first became available, only cost me £10 and has been worth its weight in gold for the i-player.  And now ... well I am not sure if it is all the latest programmes but there is plenty to keep me going!  For starters I can see Ballet 422 and RB Alice.

Sky Arts seem to be having a ballet week this coming week. However, most of it is repeats with the honourable exception of the Royal Ballet's Elizabeth I debuting tomorrow (Monday 15th) at 8pm until 9.35 starring Acosta/Yanowsky. It is repeated the following Saturday and Sunday. It is preceded by a South Bank Carlos Acosta Masterclass 7-8pm. I'll outline some other highlights.

Monday 15th. 2pm Kish/Yanowsky Swan Lake followed by a documentary Madam and the Dying Swan at 4.25.

Tuesday 16th. 3pm Sleeping Beauty; Polunin/Cuthbertson repeated Wed. 17th 8am.

Thursday 18th. 7am Repeat of Acosta Masterclass. 8am La Bayadere Acosta/Rojo/Nunez followed by repeat of Madam and the Dying Swan at 10.10am.

Friday 19th.2pm Romeo and Juliet; Cuthbertson/Bonelli. Repeated Saturday 7.35am.

Saturday 20th. 4pm Acosta Masterclass. 5pm. repeat of Elizabeth. 6.35 Roland Petit's Le Rendez-vous.

Sunday 21st. 8am Giselle. Acosta/Osipova. 1pm Carlos Masterclass. 2pm Elizabeth.

Thanks for this, Joan. There's a lot of interest there. TV is picking up, starting with the new Icelandic (looks cold!) Scandi Noir drama on Saturday night which, interestingly, has been co-written by a British screenwriter whose name I can't immediately recall.

Can I suggest that those of us who have sent messages to Sky complaining of their lack of coverage of ballet under the new merged Sky Arts try a different approach and write and thank them for the showing of Elizabeth 1. I'm working on the principle that a little praise goes a long way - do you think it can work with a large multi national media organisation?

Lucky if you have Sky, unlucky if you don't. Had hoped Elizabeth would be on "normal" TV rather than a specialist channel. Hey ho....

Edit typo

If you get a £10 NOW TV box, for £6.99 per month you can buy the Entertainment package that includes Sky Arts.  There are a lot of archived programmes (especially of Andre Rieu!) but there is also a "watch live" selection.  I can't believe I forgot about Elizabeth but hopefully it will be on a repeat cycle.  The TV magazine I buy does not include a listing for Sky Arts.

I have only just subscribed to the Entertainment package and you can cancel at any time as there is no contract.  Previously I've only used it to watch terrestrial channels catch-up.  I've watched a couple of programmes so far.  It's got to be the best £10 I have spent!

I don't have a connection with NOW or SKY.

Thanks for that info Janet. Didn't know about that!

Neither did I till my niece told me!  You can look at the website to see what is on offer before you decide.  I thought the occasional item on Sky Arts was worth £6.99 a month and I have started watching a box set called The Practice (about doctors).  NOW TV is powered by Sky but it is an internet connection so you don't need a dish.

Unfortunately I didn't see it in time to post it but SkyArts are showing a first screening (for them) of Ratmansky's Bolshoi's 2010 Flames of Paris starring Osipova/Vasiliv and Rodkin tonight at 8.10. However, it is repeated at 9am tomorrow morning. Also this Sunday at 2pm.

Next Wednesday (the 11th) they are showing Ratmansky's Anna Karenina at 8pm, repeated Thursday at 9am.

They are also possibly repeating Acosta/Yanowsky in Elizabeth at 9am on that Wednesday

I recorded the Flames of Paris but have only seen the first part so far (miss the finals of Masterchef? No contest!)  Candidly, I find the ballet rather disappointing and lacking in real drama except when the principals are onstage.  Osipova is not my favourite dancer but she is excellent in this and Vasiliev is extraordinary.  Surprisingly, I enjoyed the court ballet 'Rinaldo and Armida' more though, with Anna Antonichev & Ruslan Skvortsov much more engaging.  I haven't seen Skvortsov before and am very impressed with his elegant line and style.

I'll catch up with the rest of it later.

There's another repeat this Sunday (15th) at 2PM for anyone who missed it. It stars Ulyana Lopatkina as the title character.

SkyArts seem to be on a bit of a role with new ballets. Next Wednesday it's the Mariinsky's  Romeo and Juliet though I can't find details on date or casting. Possibly the 2014/15 cinema broadcast.

Delighted to find Flames of Paris available on Sky box sets/catch up as well as Anna Karenina. Matthew Bourne's the Car Man was briefly available but wouldn't download due to dodgy internet connection on my Sky box and now can't seem to find it. Anyone able to see it? Great to see some new programming coming through On Sky at last.

Just investigated and is also available on Sky Go - only online. To pick up on another thread the Alessandra Ferri/Boots ad is running before the show launches..

Shame as screen size is everything for ballet at home (i.e. TV not laptop) so might need husband to help with some technically wizadry to connect devices....

It might be worth following Odyssey's suggestion so they know we are watching appreciatively.

I was going to place a comment on the SkyArts website but where do you do it now? They don't seem to have their own website any more; just channel listing and I can't find anywhere to leave a comment.

Incidentally Wednesday of next week 1st June, SkyArts are showing Ratmansky's Cinderella by the Mariinsky.

Thanks Odyssey. I'll give it a go.

Also SkyArts are showing a repeat of Alice in Wonderland with Bonelli and Lamb on Bank Holiday Monday at 9am.

Finally at 8pm on Monday there is a new (to them at least) doc called Artists in Love about the relationship between Nureyev and Eric Bruhn followed by Nureyev's 1973 Australian Ballet Don Q featuring himself and Lucille Aldous.

Thanks for highlighting this Australian Nureyev DQ, and thank you to the information about NowTv in a previous post. I was nicely surprised that this was specially made for filming so no applause and a bigger set than a conventional stage. The whole company were on fire and technically superb and a slight rearranging of the story flowed well. I had my eyes peeled during the credits to see when it was filmed but the only date I saw was 1999 which must have been when the film was remastered - does anyone know when it was actually filmed ? Interestingly I saw Gailene Stock's name flash by but I missed which role she danced.
