I can tell you that that this was not the agreement at all.

If you look at both of their public Instagram posts, that is what they both (separately) said before the start of the 2018/19 season. Which is why I posted the comment 😉

Well, from their initial posts about leaving, there is no comment about a sabbatical.

Here Miss Guérineau implies it's a one-season project, and here the interview repeats several times that it's a one-season sabbatical.

Here Mr Bittencourt says he is joining Ballett Zürich for the season 18/19.

As far as I am aware, POB dancers can take one year at a time as a sabbatical (cf. Mathilde Froustey), and can extend that year by year if mutually agreed, which means that external contracts would of course be for no longer than a year in the first instance.

I suggest we conclude this discussion as it's really not all that relevant to the thread.

No comments after the Guardian piece but the MailOnline version currently has a single (moderated) comment, saying this is how things always are in ballet:

Thanks so.  That does sound tempting.  I would love to see Vogel tackle this ... and certainly Badenes as Vestera ... much as I would love to see Alu do Rudolf when POB do it next season.  Thanks so - as ever - Angela FOR ALL you do on our behalf in terms of the German ballet theatres.  Your work and insight is HUGELY appreciated.

It's also interesting that Diana Ionescu is cast as Princess Stephanie - she was memorable as one of the winners in Prix in 2017/18(?) A beautiful long limbed dancer from Romania, she has progressed quickly!

From her Instagram - a reply to a question I asked her - Australian demi-soloist Jessica Fyfe will be another Kronprinzessin Stefanie, with David Moore as Kronprinz Rudolf. She posted that her probekleid was shredded already 😂 so I asked which role(s) she was learning. Prinzessin Valerie is the other - possibly in that Vogel/Badenes cast.

Three principal dancers are leaving Hamburg Ballet after this season: Carsten Jung, Carolina Agüero and Karen Azatyan. Hamburg Ballet gives no information about their further careers - Jung and Agüero are both over 40, so I think they end their careers, but Azatyan is in his 30s, he might well continue to dance elsewhere. It will be interesting how John Neumeier will fill their places.
