alison
Noooo ... And working to the end, I think? What a loss to the dance world, both (originally) as a dancer and as a choreographer.
alison
One of my greatest dance regrets is that we've seen so little of his company - and his work - in the UK this century
Jan McNulty
Such sad news. He was someone else I thought of as invincible. RIP

Pas de Quatre
So sad, such a talent - I loved the musicality of his work.
bridiem
Very sad news! His choreography was so lyrical and joyful and musical. RIP
alison
Apart from those bits of it which were really rather weird, and dark But yes, joyful is a word that frequently comes to mind with regard to his choreography.
Esmeralda
Very sad news! I had the chance to meet him once a few years ago after I saw a performance of his company! He was a very fascinating man and such a great choreographer!

Bruce Wall
As Alison reminds, Taylor's work may be unfamiliar to many more recent British dance goers who may not have had a chance to step outside UK boundaries. Here is Auréole danced by members of the Royal Danish Ballet with a certain past RB alum, Rudolf Nureyev: I wonder what (if any) Taylor is in the RB's or - perhaps more like BRB - rep ... and if they might consider reviving it on a one off basis next season in homage ... especially as so many new dance works in these companies are by choreographers whose background hails directly from the modern dance tradition of which - it is being said - Paul Taylor was the last of the generation of founding/defining titans of the art form (aside Graham, Limon, Cunningham, St. Denis, Ailey, etc.) Edited August 31, 2018 by Bruce Wall

alison
I see from today's Links that the company is to take a world tour of Taylor works: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/14/arts/dance/paul-taylor-world-tour-michael-novak.html I very much hope that the UK will be included, for a change.
