JohnS
I was saddened to learn of Dame Tessa Jowell's death today but heartened by the tributes paid by so many across the political spectrum. By all accounts she embodied that essential public service ethic, the proper conduct of public business, even if that led to some personal difficulties. She championed seeking to improve services and social justice for all. Sure Start has come under very significant resource constraints but memories of the London Olympics still bring a smile. Her final speech in the Lords was deeply moving as surely we all seek to ensure a dignity in death for those we love, including ourselves. My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues, and all those touched by what they heard about her.

LinMM
Very sad I had thought she might be able to recover. She will be a loss to politics in general.
