DanceEast’s successful Dance for Dementia classes have been relaunched for its Autumn season, as Care to Dance?. The welcoming format and relaxed style of the movement sessions remain the same, continuing to offer family carers and their loved ones the chance to enjoy dance together in a safe environment, and to enjoy a cup of tea and relax together too.

The Dementia-friendly creative dance sessions are designed specifically for family carers and those they support in the early stages of the illness, helping them to share the experience of dance together. The sessions aim to improve mental and physical wellbeing, create the opportunity to socialise and connect with others, but most importantly, to have fun in a high-quality and stimulating dance environment.

A class participant said, "We attended the Dance for Dementia programme and found it very enjoyable and stimulating. It helped open a different world for Dementia sufferers, and the whole team at DanceEast understood the condition. Their attitude and ways of treating those with Dementia is very comforting, even for the people who care for them."

Sessions are led by experienced dance teachers, and are suitable for all levels of experience and mobility. Prior booking before joining classes in the Autumn term is required in order to guarantee places. Sessions continue to take place at DanceEast’S home, the Jerwood DanceHouse, on Thursday afternoons from 28 September to 7 December.

DanceEast’s programme of Care to Dance? classes is run in partnership with New Adventures & Re:Bourne, and Dementia Pathfinders, with funding from a Family Carers Innovation Grant from Suffolk County Council.
