  1. With a month to go, I thought a topic for news/comments, pre-performance, might be useful. I am pleased to see from social media that on 20 February Steven McRae began rehearsals at the RB with Akane Takada, her debut as Juliet being set for 28 March.
  2. Does anyone know when the London RBS MA results are coming out?
  3. Ihttps://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/static.roh.org.uk/for/pdfs/The-Royal-Ballet-Casting-Spring-Season-18-19.pdf
  4. Paris Opera Ballet: Thanks, Bruce! I'm not sure what the geographic spread of these outside France is, but thought we should record it anyway.
  5. This opens tonight, so all reports/reviews/discussions here please. I can't believe that there is only one week to go until the end of the RB season....where has it all gone??!!
  6. The casting for The Firebird/A Month in the Country/Symphony in C has gone up on the ROH website. Great news as Edward Watson is set to make his comeback partnering Yasmine Naghdi as The Firebird on Opening Night. The 2nd cast The Firebird is Mendizabal/Kish and 3rd cast is Heap/Hirano. https://www.roh.org.uk/mixed-programmes/the-firebird-a-month-in-the-country-symphony-in-c
  7. I have Stalls Circle Standing D51 & D52 available for the Monday 13th May 7.30pm performance of Romeo and Juliet at Royal Opera House - cast is Beatriz Stix-Brunell and Ryoichi Hirano making their debuts. £11 per ticket.
  8. The General Rehearsal is on Monday (March 4th) and I can't believe how many rehearsal tickets remain unsold and how many hundreds of seats are still available for every show. I have never seen anything like it. I do hope that they use Student Standby very actively, otherwise there will be swathes of red velvet right in front of the dancers - and that would be such a pity for them.
  9. Le Royal Ballet à Paris au Festival d'Automne ! https://sceneweb.fr/un-portrait-merce-cunningham-au-festival-dautomne-2019/
  10. As 2019 has just got underway and next seasons programme is due to be announced in three or four months perhaps now may be a good time to discuss what we'd like to see in Kevin O'Hares announcement. You never know, there may be a gap in his schedule that may benefit from a few suggestions. My main wish list is very brief and consists of Onegin, Onegin and Onegin! Not just because Onegin is one of my favourite ballets but of the horrible prospect of possibly losing it from the RB rep. If it isn't performed then as it hasn't been performed for several years. I keep thinking of all the potential new Onegins and Tatianas there are currently in the RB (not to mention Olgas and Lenskys) and imagine whom I'd like to see. It's a very long list! After Onegin I'd like to see more Ashton and possibly see the reinstatement of the Ashton double/triple bill. Also Sylvia filmed for the cinema with Vadim (and preferably Naghdi) as it should have been last time. This would also boost what seems to be the rather paltry, half hearted Fonteyn celebrations. Also If more obscure Ashton could be revived that would be a real bonus as there is a very real danger of losing more obscure works as time goes by. I sometimes feel our founder choreographer isn't appreciated by current management in his old company as much as he should be. Finally, though I have been concentrating on the Royal Ballet company as they are the company I see the most of and have the largest rep. and the most opportunity for choice there is no reason to limit the wish list to one particular company or indeed, country. Nothing to stop it being an international wish list.
  11. I've been to a couple of daytime events in the Floral Hall recently - one of the Month of Sundays mornings and today the Ballet Studio Live:Class, and I thought both were well run events and a good use of the space to generate additional revenue. Today apparently sold out quite early, and seems set to become a regular feature. Today's dancers were mostly from the Aub Jebsen programme , which I hadn't been aware of before. Several were quite impressive, so fingers crossed for them getting full contracts in due course. Taisuko Nakao had some serious height in his jumps, and of the girls Katherina Nikelski and Yu Hang looked very neat and accomplished, while Lania Atkins was also both graceful and striking. More of this kind of thing!
  12. I don't think we have a similar thread to this which I hope will be useful for alerting people to what web relays are coming up, where and when. N.B. I have changed the title of this thread to point out that it is for notices of Insight Events and where to find the links for web streaming before (and after) the events. Wider discussion of Insights should be in Royal Ballet Insights and Rehearsals discussion.
  13. Good to see via YouTube and am struck yet again by the sheer hard work that has to go in to creating such roles and ballets. Not sure how Ryoichi Hirano managed to talk at the end. Good also to see Melissa Hamilton. I didn't think this was the best Insight but it's certainly whetted my appetite for performances next month. But from the relay there seemed to be a number of empty seats and why has the Royal Opera House been so limp in publicising the event and relay? Perhaps Open Up has required all available resources but the Insight Programme and website changes seem rather neglected. I do hope the website will put a link to the YouTube film as soon as possible.
  14. The Unknown Soldier Infra Symphony in C Opening Night tomorrow Tues 20th November Dress Rehearsal today - this lunchtime's stellar cast and performance were as per attached sheet, and presumably will be deployed again tomorrow night.
  15. La Bayadere opens tonight. Please use this thread for discussion of performances. Thanks!
  16. I'm starting a new thread as the old one is just for triple bills. The Don Q casting is now on the ROH website: https://www.roh.org.uk/productions/don-quixote-by-carlos-acosta Friday February 15 7.30 Nuñez Muntagirov Saturday February 16 Takada McRae Tuesday February 19 Takada McRae Wednesday February 20 Nuñez Muntagirov Friday February 22 Cuthbertson Ball Saturday February 23 mat Kaneko Corrales Saturday February 23 eve Nuñez Muntagirov Wednesday February 27 Kaneko Corrales Friday March 1 Takada McRae Saturday March 2 Naghdi Sambé Friday March 22 Cuthbertson Ball Monday March 25 Osipova Corrales Saturday March 30 mat Magri Campbell Saturday March 30 eve Osipova Corrales Monday April 1 Cuthbertson Ball Wednesday April 3 Naghdi Sambé Thursday April 4 Magri Campbell edited to correct April 3 casting typo
  17. Hello, I have a spare ticket for The Friends's Rehearsal of the Royal Ballet's next triple bill consisting of Within the Golden Hour/Flight Patten/New Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui on Tuesday 7th May 2019 at 11:30am. The seat is located in A-43 of the Stalls Circle (Patrons in front may obstruct view) and costs £24. It is an eticket. Please post here and send a PM if interested. Many thanks
  18. A fuller cast list for tonight's opening performance is now here: https://www.roh.org.uk/events/whm7y Not complete though, as far as I can see - Rose Fairy, for example?
  19. Looking for a stalls circle standing ticket for Kaneko/Bracewell (formerly Kaneko/Corrales) on Wednesday 27th February. Please contact me if you have a spare to sell, I would be very grateful!
  20. The RB casting for Mayerling, La Bayadere, Infra/Unknown Soldier/Symphony in C , and Nutcracker has been announced (just received an email). Can't immediately upload it as the file too large... anyone else got this and able to share it easily?
  21. Original post deleted because the link given below is far more useful than my list of dates alone was.
  22. Just noticed it's up on the ROH website: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/the-royal-ballet-announces-leavers-and-joiners-for-the-2018-19-season
  23. Presumably this will be announced fairly soon - I am thinking within a few weeks? With 24 performances (17 last time in 2015, 14 in 2013) there are all sorts of casting opportunities for Romeo and Juliet. Cast as Juliet last time and still with the RB were/are Cuthbertson, Hayward , Lamb, Naghdi and Nunez (plus Osipova, injured in 2015, also Hamilton, who was cast in 2013 and was on leave in 2015); cast as Romeo last time and still with the RB were/are McRae, Muntagirov, Bonelli, Ball, Kish and Soares. Naghdi/Ball is hopefully a given (including live cinema) but for example who will, and who should, partner Hayward this time (instead of Golding)? - Campbell? Sambe? Bracewell? Muntagirov? Surely a debut for Takada? I would also hope maybe for Heap? For Frankenstein, I see there was only Morera and Lamb as Elizabeth last time, and Bonelli and Dyer as Victor - with the creature shared betwenn McRae, Kish and Hirano. So again, some more scope for debuts?
