  1. My Dd is away at vocational school in yr11 so obviously thinking about auditioning for upper schools. Her school has arranged a time slot to take their audition photographs for the applications next weekend but the problem we have is a couple of schools don't open their applications until October so we can't see which positions are needed for the application form, does anybody know the positions are required for applying to Central and Rambert please.
  2. We are just at the very beginning of this journey and I was wondering if anyone could advise on the best age for vocational school? Year 7 seems very young but are you less likely to find a place in year 9. Cost would be a major issue for us and my initial feeling is the later the better but I don't want my daughter to miss out if the potential is there, a big if I realise

    Audition leotards and colours

Does anyone have any ideas what sort of leotard styles and colours would be preferable for a girl auditioning for a year 7 place at both WL and Elmhurst ? I had chosen a burgandy inter mezzo leotard but her JA teachers isn't too keen . I now have the choice of sky blue or raspberry .
  4. Hi everyone, I hope the mods don't mind me posting this but having had quite a few requests for private coaching/'physio' assessments etc I am doing two days of sessions in May half term, in Warwick. Sessions can be used to work on specific movements (eg pirouettes or leaps), to work on ballet technique, for strength & conditioning or for injury rehabilitation. I can also offer pre-audition assessments with some take-home help on how to work on weaknesses. Sessions can be shared by up to 3 students but can only be booked by 1 person. Sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis but if the session you want is booked you can add your name to a waiting list. To book go to https://goteamup.com/p/1110966-warwick-school-of-dance/ Select “private coaching sessions” or go to the calendar/schedule and select your preferred date.

  6. DD has been chatting today with friends made at last years summer school, and one girl said that she'd auditioned for RBS and a couple of other places ( DD can't remember where ) earlier in the year even though her teacher didn't want her to, and they didn't ask the teacher to sign or put her information on the application. I don't know how this girl did, but will places audition someone without teachers permission? I'm just curious as most application forms I've seen ask for dance teachers name at least.

    Upper School Auditions 2016

Hi all. My DD is auditioning this year for entry to a BA in contemporary dance. I always keep an eye on this forum and it has been very informative for me and for her. I was wondering though does anyone know of any forums where they discuss contemporary dance as I know this one is mainly for ballet? She will be auditioning for Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, and Fontys and Codarts in the Netherlands. All advice or knowledge gratefully accepted! And good luck to all setting off on this rollercoaster year! I am terrified myself!

    Central finals

My dd has central finals at the weekend and we are hoping that this could be her big chance - but not expecting it to be !! Does anyone know anything about the call backs? I'm sure that last year some were called back for an interview or maybe an extra class or something? Does anyone know why this was? Was it the ones that they weren't sure about? Good luck to everyone else there this weekend!!

  11. Does anyone have any experience of the sixth form final audition day? What does it involve etc? Also approx time the day finishes? Many thanks!
  12. Hi, DS has decided he will audition for vocational school after all even though he knows his chances are very slim. One thing that is flummoxing us though is a one minute solo! One, music is really difficult to source. DS would like something slow but funky. Then two, choreography. Now in my time I’ve danced a fair bit but not sure what they are looking for in this part. Obviously you’d want to show off your best moves, but what if he goes blank mid way through?? My house is tiny, may have to choreograph in the garden! Any words of wisdom?? The thingy reasoning test looks like a Mensa IQ test too! 🙈🙈 Lol!! long road ahead, me thinks!! 🤞🤞🤞 xx
  13. Anyone know when this years auditions are? X
  14. Has anyone received any information regarding the prelimary audition this Saturday 9th December at London we haven’t heard any info about times etc they are leaving it a bit late!

    Audition disaster!

DD has just had her first Lower School audition today at Hammond. She woke up with a runny nose and sore throat, and even though she had a fantastic day, burst into tears after I collected her. She's distraught as she feels she messed up most of the dance audition. In the ballet she couldn't spot properly in turns as her nose was running and she fluffed some basic steps😔. In the modern section she froze and forgot a sequence of steps too. She's used to auditions, and has had both positive and negative outcomes, and taken the 'nos' well, but I think this is the first time she's felt she's not done her best. I've never seen her like this, she's heartbroken. The school and teachers seemed so lovely which made it worse. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thank you x
  16. I thought it would be handy to be able to share any special offers/codes for eating out etc. The cost of food soon adds up on these trips. Unfortunately I don't have one to kick off with but am in Glasgow in half term if anyone has any ideas?

    Audition Courses

Hello! Last year I attended the RBS audition insight day and really got a lot out of it, as well as a lovely class and day out! I have also heard of the Ballet Boost course, which sounds wonderful. Really, I just wanted to know all of the options out there? My half term is very weirdly late (from 30th October) and I expect I will have to take a day off school! At the moment I am thinking Ballet Boost because of the feedback etc, but am nervous that I would be the youngest and worst there, as I would be in the Upper School audition category. Good luck everyone with the coming year, and thank you in advance

    Another audition leotard post

So we thought that dd's first audition would be January, and its been brought forward to November. I havn't a clue what to look for in an audition leotard. She is going to be auditioning for mostly musical theatre type courses although the first audition will be a ballet class. I know camisole leotards are often recommended for classical auditions. Dd has never ever worn a camisole leotard. She hates anything with a racer style back too. Any ideas where to look?

    WL auditions for 2017

Am I right in thinking all the initial auditions are done for WL now? Does anyone know how many they saw? DD was at audition yesterday and there seemed to be a fairly equal split of JA leotards, and (presumably) JAs, but that might have just been our group. I was in a bit of a daze (too early for me) - think they said we will hear by email in 2 - 3 weeks. does that sound right to people hearing last year? Good luck to all the DC, they all looked beautiful in our group. Admin: I didn't see a post for WL auditions for this year so please merge if I missed it.

  21. My daughter auditioned for the Ballet West Associates program yesterday. She said it was a lot of fun, and the girls and teachers were nice. She said it was really easy, and they barely asked her to do anything. (it's for the age 8 group) So now we wait. I thought all the dancers looked great (I couldn't watch them dance, but they were all over the place, warming up). A bit daunting, maybe more for me than for her, although she's very sure that she's going to go (I'm not sure she entirely realised the point of "audition"). Fingers crossed

  24. Here we go again ????. The auditions dates are announced! Who is auditioning at Elmhurst this year? My DS will be trying for year 7 place. After dropping my older DD at vocational school this afternoon I will give myself a couple of weeks off before I start to worry about application forms and dreaded photos. But good to have the dates.

It looks like auditions dates are on their website (even though it still says they will be published later). It's time to take the dreaded photos I think as first day of auditions (for theatre arts) is already full!!
