  1. Thanks Dancermom. Managed to order some for deilivery to UK.
  2. There’s Fouette, in Urmston. They’ve been very good for us in the past. Only thing is, that it changed owners in the last week or so- don’t know if that will have any affect.
  3. Those are exactly what I'm looking for dancemom2 🙂. Did you order them from the US? Thanks for that.
  4. Hi, Don't know if these exist but...I'm on the hunt for some low rise ballet tights (pink) and preferably, convertible. I've searched online but without success. DDs just got a lovely new leotard with an open back but, according to her, the waistband of her tights is showing (at the back) and spoiling the look. Any ideas? Thanks 🙂
  5. Most, if not all, of the boys in DD's year are similar in size to the girls. Don't think there are any big and powerful frames amongst them so don't be discouraged by his size. Like you see on here all the time, you just don't know what they're looking for! 😀
  6. Hi Moofa, My DD wrote two or three sentences after we had a chat about the sort of things to include. I didn't write it on my own as I thought it should come from a child's perspective with suitable language. She put down things like...hearing about the school through dancing friends at Associates classes and competitions as well as loving to dance. Not overly sophisticated. This is her first week at Elmhurst and she's loving it! It's so hard to be without her at home though!! Good luck to your son.
  7. Takes me back to this time last year when we were waiting. Anxious, anxious times... DD joined year 6 last year and had her final class today. It finished with the DC being presented with their certificates. Loads of photos and tears all round (parents and DC!). It's been a fabulous year with lovely new friends made. DD and some of her friends off to vocational school in September. If it's a no this time, don't give up. Try again next year - we did. Good luck to those still waiting. x
  8. Well done to your DD! Assuming it's the same format as the original finals, that day was made up of..... ballet class (approx. 1.5-2 hrs) - parents had to leave the building during this time a tour round the school and student accommodation for both parents and DC physio assessment (no parents allowed) parent and candidate interview with senior member of staff (low key and friendly!) Q&A session with Assistant Head, Head of Academics and a member of the Finance team plus a few current Year 7s describing their experiences. Not many parents attended this. Think that's it! Good luck x
  9. My DDs currently in Year 6 JAs . Never had any formal assessment feedback at all. She started last September and in early October I did have a telephone appointment with the teacher. This was at a very superficial level and really didn't give that much insight into how DD was progressing. I felt it was more about feeling out our intentions regarding full time training. On the flip side, in response to e mailing the teacher with audition results, I have had a couple of lovely comments, about DD, back in reply. They seem quite happy to respond but they're not necessarily proactive about it. At our class, it's very difficult to talk face to face with the teacher and any mums that have tried to are usually told to send an email. Mostly an issue of practicality, I know.
  10. My DD auditioned in her black, full sole leather shoes from her normal class and got a place. DD liked these as, according to her, it showed that she worked hard. For the JA class, she wore ballet pink, full sole, leather shoes as per the JA uniform list. On the first day there however, the JA teacher announced to all us mums and dads that she was happy for them to wear ballet pink satin shoes. x
  11. Hello Anxiousdancemum! I'm a new Elmhurst Year 7 mum too. Still getting my head round it all. Like everyone keeps saying on here, I think we've just boarded the scariest roller-coaster ever! x
  12. My DD got a yes for Elmhurst (Year 7). She's over the moon and I'm so proud of her but I'm feeling a bit over-whelmed by it all right now. Sorry to those with a no/not yet. Keep at it. x
  13. So frustrating! They made it very clear on the day that we'd hear by the end of last week and on top of that, to send it out 2nd class is unbelievable. My nerves are shredded!!
  14. Postman's just been - still nothing from Elmhurst!!
  15. Thanks, Mummy Twinkle Toes and TBG. I'll put that one to bed now.
  16. DD at Elmhurst finals on Thursday. Any thoughts about wearing her JA (Royal) tracksuit on the day? Easy to change in and out of but maybe not appropriate?? Definitely not wearing her JA leotard - got a nice leo in a colour that suits her. Be glad when this is all over and I can stop obsessing about every little detail! My hubby is so grateful I've found this forum......
  17. So far, the only clash between JAs and festivals has been with her solos - so we missed them (and went to JAs) and arrived at the festival for her other dances later in the day. I must admit that had I felt the need to go to a festival over JAs, I doubt if I would've been open about that to the teacher. Our teacher is very old-school and would definitely not approve. Thinking about it as I write this, I think I'd sacrifice duets for class - it's only group dances, where I wouldn't want to let down so many other girls, that we would do the festival over JAs. For us though, we've only ever done groups once so extremely unlikely to happen again. DD goes to the Manchester centre. Good luck with your conundrum.
  18. No, she didn't get WL finals. It was the preliminary audition I was talking about. Is feedback for first round not possible then?
  19. I know (from here!) that dance teachers can get audition feedback from RBS but just wondered how they go about it. I want to ask DDs teacher to request feedback before the Elmhurst final but feel it's only right to give her all the information she needs to make it as hassle-free as possible. I'm wondering......... who to ask for telephone call (general number on RBS website?) or email (general queries on RBS website?)? Is there a better way to do it? does she need to book an appointment to receive feedback at some later date? Call up out of the blue? A few pointers from anyone that's already done it would be appreciated. Thanks v much. I'm notoriously bad for over-thinking things!!
  20. Sounds wonderful! Too far for us in Manchester but perhaps in the future you might consider a Regional presence?
  21. I must admit, that I thought the Mids places were more likely to go to the DCs that got Finals but I'm happy DD's still in with a chance. Well done to your DC.
